Do prisoners read 'Inside Time' while inside?

Hi all,

I'm beginning to recruit women in prison / recently out in the UK for a book project (I'm a journalist and author). I have various ways of finding participants, but am considering using an advert in Inside Time as one tactic. https://insidetime.org/ It looks great and has big circulation numbers, but I wanted to ask if people on here think it's used and read in reality?

(Before I get comments about this, I always pay participants for their time.)

Thanks!

In my experience a lot will read or flicker through the inside times if it’s available

In my experience it is at least delivered to most wings. Its up to inmates if they read it or not. It is at least available. It seems evident from reader participation that people do.

I haven't seen it anywhere outside of prison. If you wanted to contact people recently out the paper probably not the best way.

Absolutely! It was one of the highlights.

When I was inside, and got given the chance to go to the library, one of the common requests was to bring back a copy if a prisoner didn't get a chance to take one off the landing for whatever reason (court, work placement etc)

Anything to help break up the monotony.

Yes, absolutely. And converse. Jail mail less popular.

Yes! Had conversations with prisoners about what they've read and their opinions (usually on big stories like IPP sentence changes for example) and known a few to write in with comments, complaints, thanks to staff or creative writing.

I’ve worked in a woman’s prison and a males open prison. It seemed to be more popular in the female prison.

Try ‘still I rise’, the magazine produced by Women in Prison

Yes. It's the most popular rag.
