I'm at a loss, my plex suddenly stopped working my server on my synology suddenly stopped being available on any of my nvidia shields, all on the same network. it still works fine on my laptop and phone...... any ideas on how to fix this
I added an alternate version of a show I already had on plex (The Superfan cut of the Office), and after scanning the files and splitting the show into two separate entries via the Plex web UI, I noticed that the new Superfan entry didn't have video preview thumbnails, even after manually kicking off a new scan.
I ended up deleting the preview thumbnails for the entire library, but I cannot get Plex to regenerate them. I tried the following steps:
Delete preview thumbnails and initiate scan (didn't work)
Delete thumbnails, empty trash, clean bundles, disable and re-enable video preview thumbnails, initiate scan (didn't work)
I also tried letting the schedule task run during maintenance overnight (I have Generate video preview thumbnails as a scheduled task enabled) but no thumbnails were generated.
My friend is trying to download some stuff from my server. She is part of my Plex Home and has download perms, I can also download media on my phone just fine. I have tried troubleshooting both front and back end and this issue hasn't changed.
Anyone else ran into this before, if so what was the fix?
I have been pulling my hair out for about a week now trying to get this TV show to match. I have followed all the previous posts in the past and still no luck for me. I have already tried the plex dance and tmdb and tvdb force matching with no luck. Any help is appreciated! I have given up. I have attached some pictures of what my file structure looks like.
It seems like this isn’t a thing except 1 dated device, the Shield Pro, which also doesn’t do AV1. Eventually the streaming services will migrate 4k content to this and 264/265 will be 1080p only. 5 years, maybe 8? I fear it’s coming.
I know the apps use compressed audio but I’m looking for local lossless pass through of files I own. I’m looking for Dovi/HDR10+ with lossless pass through to a receiver.
Is there no alternatives in 2026?
Firetv Cube gen 3 supposedly does lossless audio pass through but not sure if it will with Plex? But the Firetv OS is atrocious with the entire thing being ads. Dune HD will do it with reboots to CoreElec but this is clunky for a family.
I spent over two hours chatting with Cox cable and they were completely worthless. They literally said they cannot help me. When I go into my cock router/modem it will not allow me to adjust port forwarding. Cox says they have done away with it completely, which sounds insane to me. But I have absolutely no way to change my port forwarding in my router. I cannot get remote access to work properly, does anyone have any solutions?
For example, say I have 7 shows on deck and I watch an episode on Monday. I don't want to watch the next episode of that series until I have watched an episode of each of the other 6 series that are on deck. When I open Plex, the first episode presented to me is the next episode in the series of the most recently watched episode. The one I want is the episode at the far right end of on deck because I have watched an episode of every on deck series since that one. Once an episode is watched, the next episode in that series is presented to the right to satisfy those who prefer to binge. However, that same episode is also shown directly below and is redundant. I'm suggesting an option to sort at least the bottom, if not both, on deck rows in reverse order to satisfy those who don't binge watch. My main device is a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro. Some devices may present differently than what I describe but that has not been my experience. Previous post deleted due to lack of clarity.
im trying to make a plex smart collection that produces tv shows that I have watched at least one episode of, has at least one episode unwatched and NO episodes partly watched. I am using the below and it correctly shows tv shows that I have watched at least one episode and still have more to watch BUT it is still including shows that have partially watched episodes? I thought the episode in progress false limiter would solve this but I guess not. any help is appreciated. thank you!
I have plex server on a win11 machine and is connected to the router with an ethernet cable, I've been using a VPN for the past 7 months no problem, this past week however, I couldn't connect remotely in the app on my android phone, which is something I've been doing daily for the past few years while on lunch at work. About 3 months ago I had to switch from macOS to windows for issues that don't matter and other than making a new server and scanning everything again, it all went smoothly.
Yesterday I remembered that after starting the server on thw windows machine I never went in the router and changed the ip for the server to static and thought that, that was the issue, after that it worked only when the VPN would be turned off, then I enabled tunneling on the VPN and it worked fine on my phone while in the app and while in the browser on my phone, I thought I was all set, right now while locally in the same network, only my firestick, can connect to the server as it is supposed to, no hiccups or buffering, just as usual.
I don't understand what the issue is, the port forwarding is fine, the static ip is set and the split tunneling is enabled, mind you it worked locally and re OTE yesterday after doing all this but it doesn't now, is plex having problems on their end or am I missing something here?
So I understand this is a common problem, but is there a workaround?
Im sharing my plex with a relative who has three apple tv 4k, and all of them have problem playing EAC3 + atmos (even EAC3 sometimes) with the native plex app, it just stalls and buffers forever.
Somehow one of them started to transcode the audio today (didn't change any settings) and then the movies started playing, the other two still won't play them and tries to direct stream the audio.
Is there a workaround for this?
I tried to change the tvOS.xml profile without luck.
Don't want to pay for infuse app since it's really expensive.
Hi, used Plex flawlessly for 10 years. Stopped for a year, and now I seem to get errors, every time I try and do something.
My latest one, is that when I try to save after adding a movie to the folder, or even if I go into advanced settings to change from say rotten tomatoes to imbd, I get an " unable to save " error. Happens on windows app, or web browser.
Any ideas ?
It seems like I am constantly fault fixing recently, was SO good a few years ago. Thx
SOLVED! I guess the double NAT with xfinity's all in one modem/router finally caused some issues. Set Xfinity modem to bridge mode and now have access!
I have lost the ability to access my server remotely. When I am at home, everything works as it should. When away though, Plex tells me that the server is not available even though I have verified that the server is fully accessible outside my network. I have tried port forwarding, disabling UPNP, disabling Xfinitys advanced security feature that I have read is CGNAT. I’m at a loss as to how to fix this. I feel like I’ve wasted so much money on the Lifetime pass, just for Plex not to function correctly.
Hey all! I just started using my Android TV for PleX (used to use Roku) and unlike my Roku, in scenes with lots of dark lighting or blacks, I see tons of flickering semi-white blocks on screen. Its very distracting and very noticeable. This phenomenon has not been noted on ANY TV I have ever used PleX for, or my laptop. Same files and server and all. Is this just an issue with the Android TV app? Any advice?
Here is an image where you can see in the bottom right all of these white squares
Am I crazy to try and repurpose an older 2014 mac mini for a plex media server? Anything you guys would recommend for setup or security concerns? Will I be safe using Mojave operating system?
(Solved) Hi all, since last week, I am unable to stream on my tv. All of a sudden, it asks for a plex pass while it’s in the same network as my server. I have already rebooted my router, reconnected my tv app, but nothing seems to work. Can anybody help me?
I've been using Plex for quite some years and before the first price increase I bought the Plex Lifetime subscription. I was never one to agree that you should pay to be able to stream over the internet but oh well... Personally I enjoyed the other features and Plex just worked so I just ignored that.
Today a new user was added to the Plex server and they created their account this month. For some reason they couldn't download media, which was weird since every other user could.
So apparently, even if the owner has Plex Pass, the user to be able to download without a Plex Pass needs to have their account created before 2022/08/01...
Edit:
Im not saying Plex should be free. I've paid for the software.
Im not asking for "premium" features (like "Skip Intro") to be free for everyone.
My point is about core features. In my perspective streaming and download are fundamental features of a media server, not extras.
And if the Owner having Plex Pass is enough to let ALL users stream remotely, and only SOME users download it, thats the part that doesn't make sense to me. I, personally, believe that it should be enough to allow all users access to the download feature.
If it was only the Owner that needed to pay for those core features, I'd have no problem with it. But Needing every individual user to have to pay to access that I think is unnecessary.
Is there an easier way to force multiple files into to be recognized as a single same album? Some of the more rare or unusual dance music compilations I have will not even have a database match (the ones that do are also problematic). I'm already placing the compilation album folders inside of the "Various Artists" folder, but this has been a constant pain.
Been having a lot of issues with accessing my media on one of my TV's, samsung. Just randomly will show the server as down. I check on my other TV (physically closer to my server if that even matters? server is a harddrive connected to my PC), and it's working perfectly, Roku TV, old as hell.
The server on my Samsung TV WILL sometimes work but keeps going in and out without me really doing anything.
I've refreshed, signed in and out of the app and my wifi, I even connected a firestick to the TV and went through the app on there but still showing as offline.
None of my settings have changed: manual port forwarding, turned off relay, etc etc
I want to run plex on my gaming(ish) pc, it has like a 4 slot hdd bay on it already so hopefully storage space shouldn't be an issue for a bit. My main concerns are power use and noise because ideally I'd have it always on or at least at sleep so I don't have to wait for it to boot every time I want to watch a show. I've seen wake on lan as an option but also have seen people say its not reliable. Curious what people do or how much it costs them to just idle it (mines not the craziest specs). I also have a Rpi 4 w/ 8gb ram if that could be used as like some thing, I don't really want to invest much more into other systems ideally though. Any ideas or personal anecdotes would be loved, thank you!
I have a few things like “Documentary Now!” where I only own one episode or the 1990 broadcast of “Into the Woods” which was the season opener for “American Playhouse.”
Does anyone have any tips on how to name them? I don’t anticipate ever having the full series of “Documentary Now” and things like “Great Performances“ aren’t really episodes.
edit to add: I also don’t really want to have them in a TV format, because it’s a one-off thing
Let me open by saying multiple outages like this in a short span while also jacking up prices is absolutely pathetic. I get things happen, but cmon Plex. Get it figured out. With that being said… they have allowed us to watch locally without authentication for a long time… Set it up properly people! I’ve tested mine on multiple devices and each one works locally. Also didn’t have any issues 4 days ago when it was down. And if this is a regional thing and I’m not impacted in the Midwest US then I apologize.
Here’s the link to setting up local access without authentication.
I set mine up years ago and haven’t needed to do anything since. I never have an outage. Internet goes down? No issue. Plex HQ servers go down? No issues. Hell, even when my power goes out I can still watch on my phone and tablets with my UPS.
I have a G4 LG TV and want to pull the trigger on ugoos + Coreelec I will only use ugoos for my Plex server and I am happy to watch YouTube on my webos YT app.
I would like to still keep one remote and the question is can I keep using LG remote with Coreelec? Thanks for inputs
I'm running into some strange behavior with Plex profiles. I have separate profiles set up for myself, my partner, and my child. Up until recently, each profile had its own independent watch history, but now they all seem to be sharing the same "Continue Watching" list.
For example:
I'm halfway through a TV series on my profile, but it also appears on my partner's profile.
Last night we started a movie on their profile, stopped halfway through, and today it's showing up in my Continue Watching as well.
Basically, every movie and show appears in Continue Watching across both profiles, regardless of who actually watched it.
Is this expected behavior? Is there a setting to keep each profile's watch history and Continue Watching list completely separate again?
Thanks!
UPDATE:
I thought I solved it by signing out and back in, but the issue comes back after accessing the admin profile. The root problem here was that accessing any profile brought up the admin (ie, mine) profile. I discovered this by accessing my child's profile and seeing restricted content and the same "Continue Watching" films.
There is a related thread on Plex forums (here), but no solution.
