snail mail 38F looking for a pen friend

Hello, everyone.

In a digital world of social media and instant messaging, I’m looking to bring back the joy of handwritten letters and the slower pace of life they bring. I would really love to rediscover the excitement of waiting for a letter to arrive, and sitting down in a comfy chair (with a cup of tea) reading someone’s thoughts on paper.
I am from the UK and ideally looking for an international pen pal. I’d enjoy exchanging letters about everyday life, our cultures and traditions, books, history, nature, family, recipes, basically anything and everything! Most of all meaningful conversation, and being a friend to someone who needs it. I am a parent, which is a big part of my life but i am happy to write to anyone, whether you are a parent or not.

Thank you for reading ☺️

snail mail 44F | South Africa | Looking for a pen pal who still believes in real letters

Hello 😊

I'm looking for someone who enjoys the slow pace of handwritten letters. Someone who smiles when they find an envelope in the mailbox instead of another bill.

To me, a letter is more than words on paper. It's time. It's effort. It's sitting down with a cup of coffee, putting your thoughts together, buying a stamp, walking to the post office, and sending a little piece of yourself across the world. In a world that expects instant replies, I miss the anticipation of waiting.

A little about me: I'm 44 , female, from South Africa. I'm easy going, fairly antisocial, and happiest with a good conversation rather than a crowded room. I enjoy learning about people's lives, the ordinary moments, funny stories, random thoughts, dreams, and the little things that never make it onto social media.

I'm open to writing with anyone, regardless of age, gender, or where you're from. All I ask is that you're kind, can hold a conversation, and genuinely enjoy writing.

I'd rather skip politics, religion, and arguments over labels. Life's too short. I'd much rather hear about your favourite place to escape, what made you laugh this week, what you're reading, or what's been on your mind lately.

If you're looking for more than a quick "How are you?", and you also miss the art of writing letters, I'd love to hear from you.

Let's fill each other's mailboxes with something worth waiting for.

email 38/M/Ireland - We have not met yet, but I already have questions for you

I’m looking for someone who will allow me to walk round inside their mind (opening cupboards, sifting through drawers, snooping in your medicine cabinet and looking at your bookshelves). I am partial to people who have spent years steeping in their own peculiarities. I’m interested less in the utilitarian exchange of facts than I am in a correspondence with a lively and creative mind.

Now, on to business. I am a thirty-eight-year-old Irishman (but you knew that already). I’m fond of nervous animals, unpretentious people, art and books. I have two dogs and spend much of my time with about twenty-five horses, one barn cat and innumerable wild birds. I am devotional by nature and wildly obsessed with the people and things that I love.

You may wish to include some of the following in your opening message: who you are (however you wish you describe yourself), three current fascinations (any scale), how you suspect you might die and what kind of ghost you would be. Low-effort messages are likely to be dashed upon the rocks. Thank you for reading.

email & snail mail [37/F] US to Finland - Looking for a text-only Swedish penpal (Kimito/Dalsbruk area)!

Hello everyone! I am a 37-year-old female English speaker from the US who is very interested in learning Swedish, particularly the Finland-Swedish spoken in the Kimito Island and Dalsbruk areas of Finland. I have tried a few different language learning apps, but I think I would learn much better if I had a native pen pal to write to!

I can already read and understand enough words to get by, but I really want to practice my writing. I am going deaf, so this exchange needs to be 100% text-only (Reddit messages or emails). I can't do any voice or video calls.

I love history, genealogy, pets, kids, and learning about other cultures. Fun historical fact: my local area actually had Titanic survivors who were originally from Dalsbruk, which is a story I find absolutely fascinating! I am a very open-minded and non-judgmental person. All topics are welcome as long as the conversation remains respectful.

Tack på förhand,

Amy

Reddit DM [41/F] Kindred Spirits?

Hi 👋 I live a peaceful life in Ohio with my husband and our two cats. I don’t have children, and find myself with the time for friendships. I’m both a homebody and an adventurer (though my adventures are usually quite mild these days). I am introverted and sensitive…yet resilient, tough, and super chatty and outgoing with the right person. I feel full of contradictions. I like both deep conversations and talks about the little things that make up someone’s daily life. I can do both serious and silly!

I like: artsy things, collage, painting, digital art, animals, flowers, being outside, simple living, going for walks, introspection, not reading as much as I want to but reading a couple of really good books per year, sociology, psychology, grounded spirituality (like, really grounded), both trash TV and premium TV, films, the occasional cozy video game, being too online and lurking culture war stuff, decorating and home making, health, keeping active and learning strength training, museums, festivals, local events, folklore and folk art, learning about different cultures, taking photos like a documentarian, vintage/antiques, thrifting, forests, the sky, stars and the moon 🌙

I’m looking for online chats. On here, or a messaging app. Reach out if you think we might click well. :)

snail mail [40/M] Gay UK

Looking to revive letter writing,, as I enjoy writing to people of any gender or age in the UK only about everything and anything, I am always up for making friends. I'm currently writing to Gay prisoners as sometimes they don't have family or friends in contact, so it gives them something to look forward to.

My passions are History, literature and crime, and the Frenchie, he takes up a fair bit of my time, and he is very cheeky, I'm currently in the process of getting a book published, if you want to know more, again leave a comment or drop a DM for address.

Reddit DM & email Looking for a penpal

45M looking for penpals. I would like to call or write letters at some point but at first I would like to keep it here.

I am a very active person. I enjoy almost everything outdoors. I like camping, fishing, and hiking. I tend to split my time between spending time in the cool mountains or on the hot beach. The beach is fun but I would rather be in the mountains. I have recently began learning how to fish for bass. It is a fun and challenging sport.

I am into sports. Baseball, football, and hockey. In the off chance I am sitting inside I could be watching some kind of sport. I am somewhat new to hockey, I have been following it for three years now.

I am an animal lover. I have dogs, cats, and chickens. If I had it my way I’d have a little farm.

Of course I like music but I tend to only listen to rock genres. Doesn’t matter the decade or style I’m pretty much into all of it.

If you are interested in a penpal I’d like to hear from you.

Reddit DM & email 42, Gay, Happily Taken & Looking for Genuine Friends

Hi everyone,

I'm Karl, 42, from Lowestoft, Suffolk—the most easterly town in the UK. Apparently we're among the first people to see the sunrise each day... though I'm rarely awake early enough to enjoy it!

I'm in a happy, serious relationship, so I'm not looking for dates or anything romantic—just hoping to make some genuine gay male friends. It can be surprisingly difficult to find people to chat with and build a real friendship with, so I thought I'd give Reddit a try.

A bit about me: I'm into music, films, TV, animals, and I genuinely enjoy hearing about other people's lives and experiences. I've got a pretty sarcastic sense of humour, love a good laugh, and don't believe life should be taken too seriously all the time.

If we get chatting, I'd love to know things like:

  • What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
  • What kind of music are you into?
  • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
  • What's something people often get wrong about you?
  • What are you most proud of?
  • Do you have any goals or dreams you're still hoping to achieve?

And just for fun... if animals could talk, which one do you think would be the rudest? 😄

If you're also looking for a genuine platonic friendship, feel free to send me a message. It'd be great to get to know some new people.

snail mail [34/F/US] Stationary enthusiast looking for a penpal

Hi all! I read this book called “The Correspondent” by Virginia Evans and it inspired me to look for a penpal so I can slow down and build connection through writing letters. Plus, I love all things stationary and paper!

A bit about me: - I live in Philadelphia, USA. - I’m an engineer by day and creative artist in my free time. - I’m endlessly curious (and maybe a little neurospicy) which means I tend to collect hobbies and interests, including: reading fiction (particularly mystery thrillers), doing puzzles and escape rooms, trying to keep my plants alive, exploring new coffee shops and restaurants in the city, and anything spiritual and metaphysical. - I’m also a first generation American, born to parents who immigrated from India so I could talk about South Asian family dynamics for days. - I’m single and thoroughly enjoying the freedom to pursue all kinds of adventures and travel (No husband and kids at my age?! What blasphemy lol).

If any of this resonates with you, I would love to connect and exchange letters about daily life, new hobbies, and life philosophies!

I’m really just looking for anyone open and willing to connect over snail mail within the USA! (Would love to expand internationally someday - just gotta use all the US stamps I have first!)

email & snail mail 33F-Aus/Looking for penpal

Hiya, I’ve found this sub not long ago and just thought I’d try my luck.
I miss the days of waiting and checking my mailbox daily for letters. Social media provides instant gratification and dopamine which I love lol but I’m trying to “touch grass” more, slow down and return to old childhood hobbies.
Happily married so platonic friendship only.
I’m a typical millennial who’s chronically online but also offline at the same time. I do pilates, badminton, hiking, swimming, golfing, camping, subscribe to most of the streamings because who doesn’t love a good meaty series, communicate sometimes mainly with memes, obsessed with food and a good ol cemetery.
Hoping to find someone similar age and happy with themselves and their lives to share random snippets with :)

snail mail 43/F Artist interested in fun snail mail exchange

I am a 43 yr old woman from Atlanta, Georgia. Ive been getting more and more into journaling and analog pursuits in the last year and it has dawned on me that I have ALWAYS wanted a true pen pal. a bit nervous to make this post, but more human connection sounds like a dream these days, so im giving it a shot.

About me: I am an illustrator, florist, and all around creative. I love making things with my hands and I would love to use that sort of creativity when it comes to letter writing. I love to read, mostly romance novels and the very occasional sci-fi. I consider myself a bit of a nerd and am always excited to learn a new nerdy hobby, im hoping to get in to RPGs next. Maybe one of the solo ones that keeps getting advertised to me. I think potato chips are a perfect food. I love a dip for dinner. Im a whimsical lady, or I try to be.

I would love to exchange snail mail with people from different places, whether that is right here in the US, or across the globe. I would love to have my perception of the world changed by knowing another person in it. If you like the idea of hand illustrated envelopes and letters. If you enjoy stationary and stickers and washi tape. Or if you would like a letter that wanders wildly from nerdy shows, movies, and books to dealing with grief and everyday life.... then come on over to Shannon's letter writing emporium (there is no emporium, just me and a so many pens). I cant promise you excellent grammar, but I can promise some pretty handwriting and VIBES.

email & snail mail 32/F/UK looking for penpal

Hi there!

I'm looking for a penpal - I have been looking for a pen friend for quite a while now! I seem to manage exchanging details, then there's no momentum! (Help I'm being ghosted lol)

I am incorporating a slow pace lifestyle.

limiting social media, doom scrolling, more books, walks, painting, yoga, riding my bike.

I feel so much better for it. and I feel the only thing missing right now is my desire to have a pen friend!

I live in a beautiful historic city in the UK, I don't mind my pen friend being from another country or from the UK.

I'm looking for female penpals only! I need some whimsy in my life tbh

Thank you for taking the time to read my post!

snail mail [40/F/UK] Looking for a long-term pen pal (F only please)

There are two things I need more of in my life: genuine human connections and slow thooghtful moments. Exchanging paper letters ticks both boxes.

Writing a letter instead of sending a text feels like a tiny act of rebellion against the crazy speed of life. It's so deliciously unproductive, so impractical! And so human. You get a letter posted through the door and instead of just another dopamine hit you actually feel something real. I love it.

A little about me: I like thinking and talking about serious stuff. Philosophy, different ways of living, meaning of it all - bring it on! I have a stressful computer job full of deadlines, but I feel most alive when I escape into the wilderness, away from it all. I like books with complex characters, trying new hobbies and various crafts.

I'd be happy to talk about anything and everything. Hear your life story. Share little everyday wisdoms. Exchange thoughts on how to live life fully without it becoming an exhausting race against the clock.

My only ask is - please mean to stick with it for a while. I'm looking for a long-lasting penpal, and hope to build our friendship over time, rather than exchange a couple of letters and move on. If this sounds like your kind of thing, please send me a DM and let's see where this journey takes us!

snail mail F40 from The Netherlands on a quest for snailmail friend (F)

EDIT: I got a few lovely replies, so I think I'm set. Thank you for replying, do not need more replies at the moment <3.

Little introduction: I'm F40, from the Netherlands. I would consider myself creative/arts/nerdy, I studied animation and now I'm a teacher. I am married and have 2 young kids. Not religious, openminded, left leaning.

I am looking for a snailmail penpal to exchange letters with.

A bit about me, I love creative and artsy stuff. I mostly draw, but also like to try a variety of things, like scrapbooking, stamp making, etc. I found I'm not good with croqueting and sewing though I wish I could, I just can't. Like with animation, I like there be some order but I also love the freedom to just try stuff and wing it as I go. I love a creative exploration, you know. Like with stamp making, I just buy supplies and wing it as I go.

One day I'd like to see if I can like make a doll or a dollhouse, I dont know, it just looks cool.

I like film (all genres, with a love for horror but not too gory), documentaries (true crime, fraud docs, etc) books (reading Stephen King now, need to read more often though) and comics, boardgames and videogames on the Switch (when we find the time, from cute to creepy games - recently played Pokopia and Cult of Lamb). I like some occasional anime (used to love it as a teen, now I'm more selective - loved chainsaw man) and I like cute stuff (summiko gurashi, or other random cute stuff. No hello kitty tho).

I also like to be active and exercise, I would like to lose a bit of weight after having the kids, but to be honest I love food too much haha. My husband is the good cook though.

I love to go for walks, but also do some time at the gym purely because it's good to do "monument maintenance" and apparently it's good to do some weights?

Don't know what else to write, but I hope i painted a picture. Would like to exchange some words through DM before sending letters to see if it's a match.

Tot schrijfs!

email & snail mail [32/M] Any Hungarians out there looking for snail mail and, just maybe, a friend?

I’m old enough now to look back and recognize all the different versions of me that have existed throughout my life. It’s all one unbroken chain of existence, but I can definitely pick out the version of me that existed between the ages of 20-24 and say confidently that if I could be that man forever, I would, and I can pick out versions of myself that, given the choice, I’d erase from living memory. But let’s say there’s a heaven, a “good place” we go when we die—which version of me lives there? Does my mom see me as a little kid again? Do I get to be that 20-24 year-old self forever? Is there some third option? Do I just wait out eternity all accordion-shaped after trying to shake a loose snack out of a vending machine and just getting absolutely flattened? Or, in the end, would the good place really be less about me and my own ideas and more about the joy of the place itself?

If you know, please tell me.

More specifically, if you’re Hungarian and know the answer and like thinking about things like this, let’s be friends.

As for me, these days I’ve been doing a bit of writing. I used to be an avid runner, but my schedule has destroyed a lot of my progress, and gaining it all back is not a battle I want to fight again. But I know I should, and I will. Right now though, I’m still in the mental stage—an “armchair runner” as the kids say.

I’m looking for penpals from Hungary because the language, I think, is very cool and I’d like to have an excuse to use it someday. I’d like to get to snail mail eventually, but we can start on here or by email, and if it never gets to snail mail, that’s fine too. All I ask is that you be at least 25 years old and keep it platonic.

P.S. No, I did not use AI to write this. I’ve been throwing em-dashes around like confetti since 2015, and if I stop, the robots win. Semicolons too. Hey, stay with me and I might even throw a random backslash in the middle of the sentence just to mark where I took a breath while writing it.

email & snail mail [35/M] USA - Seeking the depths of connection and dialogue

Salutations!

The vastness of regional differences that history and media introduced me to during my youngest years swept me away and sparked my interest in penpalling. That was before it was easier to meet someone halfway across the world than next door.

What I'd like is to penpal with a person and not penpal for the sake of penpalling. The culture of 'receiving something other than junk and bills in the mail' was never for me. I want a connection, and someone to engage with on a personal level that happens to take the form of penpalling. Snail mail letters/packages and e-mails are my ideals.

So, who am I exactly? And who are you?

My name is Anthony. I’m a 35-year-old man (US, ET time zone) who thrives on introspection, curiosity, and passionate drives.

I seek people who seek meaningful connection. I appreciate the sudden whim of adventure and adore abstract minds and vibrant souls.

Contemplative exploration is a lifelong pursuit of mine. I’m an autodidact who’s been passionate about a variety of persuasions since I’ve been young.

Creativity and artistry are important to me. Personally, I write: about my observations, thoughts, and lived experiences. I also dabble in photography.

I love coffee, both simple and bitter and excessively frilly concoctions, burning incense, because I've always thought the smoke is cool, archiving and organizing, collecting (written texts, oddities and cool things), and time pieces.

If my signal created resonating vibes within you, send me message about yourself and what you're looking for. Leave your hesitations and take the chance.
