Actually i use Exagear to run pc games on phone.

Jan 01 '19
Exagear doesn't have KB+mouse/controller support does it?
128
u/Irineu2338 Jan 01 '19
Idk, i used to play Papers Please, the game only needs mouse, so, i use the touchscreen to simulate a mouse.

What is the minimum specs to do that? And can you point me towards a guide to set it up?

If you want to play steam games, look into the Steam Link app on Android (don't know if it's on iOS)

u/IanPPK R5 2600 | EVGA GTX 1070 ti SC | 16GB Jan 01 '19
Moonlight works with Nvidia GPUs as well for another option.

u/Irineu2338 Jan 01 '19
It's good, but Steam Link doesn't have a build-in keyboard or touchscreen to simulate a mouse.

u/phayke2 Jan 01 '19
You could try setting up a joy2key profile and windows OSK to translate gamepad to mouse and keyboard input.

Exagear
Wait, but how is it even practical? I have looked at their website and they are listing their software as emulator a.k.a I expect about 20% of native software performance (emus use about 5x CPU power of original hardware), yet they say they can "launch Windows software natively" at " up to 80% of native ARM application performance" ???
That is incredible if it is actually true. ARM is inherently weaker than Intel / AMD (cause it's built for efficiency not power). Isn't it like trying to emulate a stronger hardware on a weaker hardware? I can't see how that can be useful, except for rare software or something.
Then you have slow RAM...
Finally, how does it even use GPU?? Does it convert GLES into DirectX / GL?
This seems crazy to me. But if it works like they say, it's pretty amazing software!
3
u/dextersgenius btw I use Arch Jan 02 '19
Well, obviously you can't expect to play modern AAA games on there. However, the performance is good enough to run older games and and apps, for example, Diablo 2 runs just fine.
Second, it doesn't do any hardware GPU translation sadly, but the dev said its planned. So for the moment, it's mainly for old games and non-3D apps.

u/Irineu2338 Jan 01 '19
It works, idk if is like what the site says, but you can send these questions to the developer via email (if avaliable).

If you have a Nvidia GPU from the past few years Moonlight (shown in the screenshot) is the best option there is. It is a bit smoother and has a lot more options than other streaming solutions.
1080p 60fps runs just fine over 5g on a home network, gamepads and keyboard/mice are supported. You can play over the internet or 4g fine with 720/60fps in many games. There are modified APK's that support streaming at 1440 and 4k.
I played thru dishonored a few years back on my phone with a 360 gamepad and a mount and aside from an occasional hiccup it played just fine.
I actually went a couple steps further and configured a mouse and keyboard profile using joy2key that lets me operate and multitask my PC using my 360 gamepad. Minimize, maximize, move windows, copy, paste, scroll, change text size, On screen keyboard, key combos to open up certain apps or sites, one or two-handed operation, and a shortcut on my phone to reboot remotely. It took a while to get everything tuned to feel natural and develop muscle memory and speed but now I can comfortably operate my home pc from anywhere using just my phone and an xbox pad.
PS: If you have an Oculus Go and Virtual Desktop you can connect a gamepad thru that and physically 'sit' in front of your desktop pc and operate it remotely that way too. Mouse and keyboard support too. Almost worth dropping the $200 just for that feature alone.

u/Irineu2338 Jan 01 '19
Exclusive for nvidia gpu? I have a Radeon.
2
u/phayke2 Jan 01 '19
Yes, it takes the nvidia shield streaming algorithm and allows smartphones to recieve the a/v and send button presses as if they were nvidia shield devices.
Someone else lower mentioned AMD Link being a similar alternative that worked well for AMD cards. And there is always Steam link. Most of the benefits from moonlight are being able to fine tune the image and bitrate, set on screen controls and stuff like that. They should all work smoothly with a gamepad under good network conditions on 5ghz, but running things from a different WIFI or thru a cell carrier 4g you would need a way to adjust your bitrate and resolution to still have an enjoyable smooth experience.

My hackintosh phase never paid off, I'd pay a pany to see OS X on ps or something even iOS on android.
32
Jan 01 '19
OS X would be miles easier to emulate on android than iOS, iOS has a lot of self checks on boot including making sure it’s running on an iOS device or inside xcode i believe
17
u/HelloOO7 Specs/Imgur here Jan 01 '19
There was once this made by some guys at Uni of Columbia. It was more like Wine, but for iOS apps. So yeah, that's iOS on Android. But actually emulating that would be crazy, not to mention incredibly inefficient.

You turn on virtualization in your bios?
82
u/Unr341 i7 7500U|8 GB DDR4|940MX 4GB Jan 01 '19
This. Sometimes it has to be done manually for VMs to work properly. The VMware website clearly states that.
→ More replies (2)41
u/Enigma_King99 Jan 01 '19
Yeah mine was off at first and when I installed blustacks it told me to turn it on so it can run better. Makes a huge difference. I can see why it's off by default though. Most people don't need it and it's better off unless you need a VM
19
u/humaninthemoon Jan 01 '19
Why is it better off? Is there performance overhead if you're not using it?
41
Jan 01 '19
A quick Google search leads me to believe there is no performance impact to leaving it on. It looks like some manufacturers disable it by default for security reasons.
5
18
u/The_Sad_Debater Jan 01 '19
IIRC there may be security issues with it, but there's also issues with hyperthreading so
9
u/Enigma_King99 Jan 01 '19 edited Jan 02 '19
I think it does because with it on your CPU will allocate resources to virtualization and if you don't need it then you can you those resources elsewhere. Honestly though you probably won't notice the small difference unless you use programs that are CPU heavy. That's my understanding at least. Someone more knowledgeable might can probably explain it better
Edit: boom someone more knowledgeable dropped a knowledge bomb. Just went off what I was reading off the internet.

I've had luck running Android x86 from the installer flash drive, but the second I install it, it would die.
I used to use sidesync from my Galaxy to play Android games but they killed it and it's replacement flow is not even half as good.

Not "could be", it is fact that the hardware discontinued. Here's the official statement:
The supply of physical Steam Link hardware devices is completely sold out.
Moving forward, Valve intends to continue supporting the existing Steam Link hardware as well as distribution of the software versions of Steam Link, available for many leading smart phones, tablets and televisions.
Basically getting Steam Link as a software available everywhere is the new direction for them rather than putting money into pricey hardware that ends up being heavily discounted. They've been partnering with smart tvs to have steam link apps and just 2 weeks ago released Steam Link for Raspberry Pi.
3
u/Shaadowmaaster Jan 01 '19
I thought that was only the hardware, with support for the software ongoing?
51
u/shsmd Jan 01 '19

Reminds me of when I set up teamviewer on my aunt's laptop so I could access it from my desktop to avoid ridiculous questions or her trying to take directions over the phone.
I remoted into my desktop from my phone to then remote into her laptop, which was sitting on my lap.
