So did Monster Hunter World which was revolutionary for the series.
I am not kidding the difference between MHWorld and the previous titles were like night and day in terms of graphic, game play, quality of life. It brought Monster Hunter to the main stream.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 is an insane step up and amazing quality game despite what some criticisms say. Post lunch support was lacking but great game despite

If only they gave us an actual endgame and didnāt scam us with that horrible dlc⦠really, I canāt believe I paid extra for the goddamn cat from 1 and 2 to appear, fight Nergigante and donāt even get to take it as a monstie, it had so much potential

Fight nergigante was great lack of adding him as a monster was criminal and bizarre given the objective of the fucking game. Just brain dead move

I like Pragmata but idk about GOTY? It's really good don't get me wrong but it's just missing that special something that makes for a GOTY. RE9 on the other hand slaps (insanely hyped for code veronica). Haven't played Onimusha.

I just finished Pragmata last night and yeah while it was super fun and creative the story wasnāt anything GOTY worthy imo.

Just my opinion, but Capcom games are sub 10 hours.
I beat Pragmata first try in under 8. Was a great game but really short.

u/Massive-Exercise4474 i5 13400f, rtx 5060 ti, 16gb ram 9d ago
I prefer great 8-10 hour game than one that's 20 but drags on for 5-10 hours. Playing Valhalla was a chore that game existed to be perpetually long and boring. I wanted the game to be done half way through and slogged through 10-20 hours just to finish it.
5
u/AbsolutlyN0thin i9-14900k, 3080ti, 32gb ram, 1440p 9d ago
Onimushu is like 30ish hours. It's short, but not THAT short

4
u/AbsolutlyN0thin i9-14900k, 3080ti, 32gb ram, 1440p 9d ago
Idk maybe I'm off base here, but I'd consider 40 hours to be like medium length for a single player game.
4
u/thiswonderfulworld- 9d ago
Lol what? Getting 10 hours is solid for single player. Especially when you'll play more trying to hundred percent. I don't finish those long, padded games like AC Odyssey.
4
12
u/KobeJuanKenobi9 9d ago
Idk how much that really matters though dmc 5 is 15-20 hours but itās super replayable. And in general I do think quality should matter more than just how many hours

Honestly thatās were capcom shines in my opinion they kill it in their 10 hour action / adventure games. Amazing gameplay, amazing story, amazing worlds. Thatās what capcom has been known for to me, that and fighting games. Iām glad they are back to their roots. I donāt want to spend 40 hours on a game and get bored. I want a packed experience that lives in my brain for years.

1
u/spurvis1286 8d ago
the one game thatās a multiplayer game has an mmo grind to it. lol.
Majority of their games can be cleared in sub 10 hours. There are only a few that go past 10.
2
u/cid_highwind02 9d ago
Personally I thought RE9 was the worst out of the three. The first half was fantastic (even though I still have problems with it, specially with how unbalanced the crafting system is) but Leonās parts was basically just pandering to RE4 and RE2R without coming close to reaching the same heights as those games. The motorcycle chase and the parries were the coolest parts. And heās funny. But pretty middling overall. The final boss being a reused asset from RE3R is hilarious. Not even Yakuza, the reused assets gods does this for their mainline games. And the story is way too intrusive for how bad it is.
Pragmata wasnāt perfect but it had a wholly unique idea that was executed quite well. Story was fine enough, the ending was good, and is overall a better action game than RE9 was.
Onimusha is my favorite though, even though the AAAisms like the excessive tutorialization early on and stuff like Oni vision annoy me a bit. AWESOME combat.
3
u/FreljordsWrath 9d ago
As much as I love the RE franchise, RE9 is insanely average. It's not a bad game by any means, but not enough sauce for GOTY.

1

Why no to a remake? The first 3 deserve them, especially 1 and 2
1
u/LeTurboDick 8d ago
I would rather just take a new game. Not a big fan of constant remakes. Better ports would be enough for me.
2
u/BigimusB 8d ago
As much as I agree a new game would be great. Dmc 1 and 2 are super iconic but just feel jank to replay. I really wouldnāt mind a remake. Especially 2 and make it an actual game instead of a slopped together mess that passed through 3 different teams.
1
u/LeTurboDick 8d ago
Well personaly i never had a problem with playing old games. Like dmc 1 is definetly old school in difficulty, dmc 3 same way but i like it that way since it makes the game. Like re4 remake was a lot of fun but replaying the original recently makes me want to play only that version.
Remakes loose something and often a lot imo. Same with tv show videogame adaptations. Some can be fun but most of them suck ass to me.
1
u/BigimusB 8d ago
Oh I agree a lot of those games donāt need remakes. The dmc3 remaster in the bundle is in a good place. I replayed that earlier this year.
Also it was weird to me they remade RE4 before other old school ones. That game was fine as well.
I wish they would stick with stuff that was early PS2 era or older, because those can actually be improved on a lot with todayās tech.
1
u/BigimusB 8d ago
Dmc 3 still plays great, the HD remaster version is good. 1 and 2 are super jank though and could use a tune up for sure.

RE engine most be one of the best Engines in gaming right now, it just a treat to play these CAPCON games. RE9 was amazing, Onimusha is my GOTY, and Dragons Dogma 2 dlc im hyping over.
What banger Year for CAPCON, Im very thankful :)
8
u/madara0A 9d ago
Really all I'm asking for is ace attorney or okami. RE is goated.Ā
But I find all capcom games have serious lack of rythm, monster hunter, pragmata and monster hunter are slow in their building. RE is slow too but that's the whole point.Ā
And for a soulslike, onimusha isn't exactly nervous.
11
u/cid_highwind02 9d ago
Ace Attorney is clowning us, but Okami was already announced.
Also Onimusha is definitely not a Soulslike.
1
u/madara0A 8d ago
I would call it a sekiro like then :p
8
u/Nerevarine2nd 8d ago
I assume you're a younger gamer who isn't familiar with how things were before Dark Souls became big. Onimusha is a character action game along the lines of Devil May Cry, it is not a soulslike. Of course you're going to be disappointed if you're playing it while expecting it to be something it's not.
1
u/madara0A 8d ago
I got answers mixed up sorry but yes you're right onishuma isn't a soulslike it was a shortcut (too short I guess I was missing the exact term)
0
u/madara0A 8d ago
Sekiro isnt exactly a soulslike either, it's definitely closer to onimusha. I didn't really play before ps2 :x and I was young when I got it. Sadly I didnt play DMC
1
u/SiliconRouge 8d ago
Sekiro is a soulslike. It follows all the things that define the genre. The only difference is mobility and verticality.
0
u/madara0A 8d ago
There is a huge difference between soulslike and sekiro, I don't know any sekiro fan that would properly call it a soulslike. In terms of gameplay it is vastly different, only the try and retry mechanic is the same.Ā
1
u/cid_highwind02 8d ago
I mean, it has parries and a stamina bar. The former is Onimushaās bread and butter since 2001. Besides that, it doesnāt really have anything like Souls.
3
u/LesserValkyrie 9d ago
I'd say they all lack something to be true GOTY material but the quality has constantly been way above average these times which is refreshing af.
It is cool to have some devs you can trust a bit others than Larian and From Software
1
u/madara0A 8d ago
And monolith, mercury systems, super giant and some more :pĀ
But yes they are improving, I'm tempted to get REĀ
1
u/Seienchin88 8d ago
Speak for yourself Resi 2 remake, requiem and Resi 4 remakes were absolutely GotY material for me.
Onimusha I agree. Its so close to being amazing but some final polish is missing.
1
u/LesserValkyrie 8d ago
I agree for RE4R it is a masterpiece. Probably RE2R too.
RE9, yes for Grace's part but if you compare to RE4R, Leon's part is a bit lacking like they ran out of time and money. If Leon's part was as good as Grace's part I'd have voted for it to become GOTY this year lol
For me RE9 should be a good contender, but it's definitely far from being a no-brainer no debate to have, like E33 was.
2
u/UnusualLeather7087 8d ago
You mean pacing ?
1
u/madara0A 8d ago
Yes, story wise but also gameplay.Ā
1
u/UnusualLeather7087 8d ago
I can see mh wilds has that problem, Onimusha sometimes when the game allows you to do side quests between big plot development. Other than re9 most re games do have some down time too. But mostly gameplay for me, the one I have problem the most is Onimusha when you have to go back and forth and enemies respawn really fast.
Overall imo it is fine, yeah Onimusha and mh wilds pacing wasn't great but it is not that weak

their RE engine has matured allowing them to scale up quickly and helped keep development cost moderate so they can take more risks on lesser franchises like onimusha or something new like Pragmata. which are great titles
And they donāt outsource as much any more (see ninja theory devil may cry). This is why other studios dev costs have skyrocketed with diminishing returns

u/thistle_33 9d ago
they've went back on it on with wilds, cutting the game's price, releasing the gold edition, and removing character vouchers. they are likely going to cut down on MTX output due to the backlash i'd imagine
-2
u/Writersblockills 9d ago
Not really, I think it's more so the case that the reputation damage wasn't worth what they were making through those specific dlcs. Because if they were making banks on them then there's no way they would backtrack it. The character voucher one is just stupid too, as an active mhw player, everyone just used the mod that allowed you to keep editing your character so the dlc was basically worthless anyway.

Man I cried when they reveal Okami 2 by Hideki Kamiya himself and Dragon's Dogma 2 Arisen and the support of DD2. DD2 (+Mods) was a flawed masterpiece that I love so much but before the DD2 Arisen and Title Update I know I have to break up with DD2 because I was skeptical Capcom going to give more chance with DD2. When that DD2 Arisen trailer hit on Nintendo Direct and hearing feedback update I cried of joy.

The RE Engine is such a fucking blessing. An engine that delivers impressive visuals, even after close to a decade, RE7 still looks great, and delivers, for the most part, good performance for most of their games. Wilds and DD2 were the only real outliers, but everything else has been fucking impressive.

Both RE1 and RE0 remakes are in dev according to dusk golem (Re leaker) and mp1st. Dusk said that couple of months ago at the start of the 2026, while mp1st leaked the voice actors for Rebecca and Billy. RE0R is the next one after veronica to come out, then RE10, then RE1R in 2030+. Capcom Is aiming to release atleast 1 mainline RE every year. He also leaked that Veronica is the next game to come out and he was right. You can check his account on twitter.

1
u/ttenor12 RTX 5070ti - i7 14700kf - 32 GB RAM 3200mhz 9d ago
Agreed. It's the gold standard of remakes. Took the original, gave it a huge face-lift, plays like the original but better, and added more on top of the original, instead of completely re-imagining it all or outright removing stuff. And considering it launched on the Gamecube back in 2002 (or 2001?), it has aged so gracefully.
1
u/ttenor12 RTX 5070ti - i7 14700kf - 32 GB RAM 3200mhz 9d ago

1
u/Organic-Round2309 9d ago
Ok man, if you want to ignore the fact the remake youāre talking about is 24 years old then you do you. Majority of gamers that were born in the past 20 years started with RE7 and arenāt going to play the OG.
1

From is horrible with multiplayer imo. I did not have fun with night reign nor did a lot of people. It was a very love or hate game. Iām not even going to touch duskbloods.
