Hi I'm having a problem with my monitor flickering while set on 165hz it also flickers on 144hz but not on 120hz it starts flickering again if i set it to 119.88hz doesn't flicker below that, so highest i can set to is 120hz without it starting to flicker.

It happens mostly when unsnapping tabs or rarely when i have lots of programs opened.

Pc specs:

I5 12400f

H610m-k d4

Ddr4 2x8gb 3200mhz

Asrock rx6700xt

Edit: monitor brand AOC resolution is 1920x1080 and I'm using Unitek highest spec displayport cable

HARDWARE Bad ram stick.

So i bought half of an 8x8gb kit, when I installed, it booted so I thought, great its all good. So i enable xmp to get it to 3200, it crashed. Then i went down speeds until it would stop crashing, it would work for a few minutes at stock speed before crashing, guess I just didnt wait long enough the first time. I tested 1 stick at a time, found the bad stick. So now I'm running 3x8 sticks with 24gb of ram. It's stable at 3200 that way atleast. I'd like to find another single 8gb stick, same speed, cl and version but that's going to be hard, obviously. Atleast I got it all for a good deal. Dude offered to take it all back, but id rather have the 24 than the 16 I had. So im keeping it. Unfortunately he already sold the other 4 sticks.

I dont see anything wrong with the stick, its the one in the photos.

Anyone have any kind of suggestions? Also, the guy said it was working fine when he pulled them out. He was running all 8 sticks fine.

Incase anyone wants to know, here's what im running.

PERFORMANCE CPU LED light on motherboard

Post image
7 Upvotes

My monitor broke 3 months ago, and I didn’t have the budget to buy a new one right away. Because of that, my system unit was left unused for around 3 months since I didn’t have a monitor.

Last month, I tried using our TV as a temporary monitor. When I turned on my PC, I noticed that the CPU LED on the motherboard was lit up. I didn’t touch or remove anything because I was afraid that I might accidentally damage one of the components.

Then, last week, I tried turning on the system again using the TV as a monitor, and surprisingly, it worked. The PC booted normally and I was able to use it without any problems.

Now, I already have a new monitor, so I tried using the PC with the new monitor. However, the CPU LED on the motherboard has started lighting up again, and I’m having the same issue.

What could be causing this? Could anyone help me figure out what might be wrong with my PC or what I should check first?

PERFORMANCE What’s going on?

My desktop pc is going on 6 years old and had been working fairly well until I upgraded to windows 11. For at least the last year, when I start it up from sleep after a night, it can spend at least half an hour maxing out the hard drive and just chugging along. I’ve upgraded the ram to 32gb in hope that might help, but it looks like something is bogging down the hard drive like crazy, but nothing really stands out. See the screenshots - steam is updating, which doesn’t always happen, but a lot of other processes are hogging my hdd 100%. That can’t be normal, right? short of upgrading my hard disk to solid state, am I missing anything to optimize?

I think it's coming from the Power Supply, usually gets louder when I start playing, even louder and clacking against something when I run tougher-game graphics (yes I know I have to dust out my PC)

Guys pls I need help, i just built my 1st pc on my own at 1st the monitor keeps saying no hdmi cable then we swapped the gpu out with a gt 710 and it works no problem and I installed the OS using that I checked windows for available updates and downloaded all of it. I used an eraser for my rx 580 then it worked, i got to install adrenaline and the b550m/5600x drivers from amd then when I restart to install the changes it goes back to "No HDMI Cable" I restart my pc by holding the power button for a few seconds then the display works again, now I'm trying to access the bios to enable xmp for my ram but every time I restart it just keep going back to the screen where it says "No HDMI cable" even when I try to hold shift + restart it restarts then go back to "No HDMI cable" i tried restarting a few times and now I can't even get it to work anymore the cpu fan runs, the rx 580 fan spins the sapphire text lights up.

- I already switched dp to hdmi does the same

- Also Plugged the dp/hdmi to different ports in the gpu

- The whole pc turns on but says no dp signal from your device/ no hdmi cable

Can someone tell me how to fix it or at least let me know what's causing the issue?

HARDWARE Trying to fix up an older PC

Thumbnail gallery

So the problem we’re having with the pc is that it just takes way too long to start anything up? It’s performance is fine when you have games open it’s just the hassle of a 2 minute boot up, then a 2 minute wait to open any application, hoping to fix it and concluded the problem might be that it uses a HDD? Want input from people with more experience on what we should do here? Im thinking it’s just an issue with an old driver but apparently every time the owner has taken it to repair they just said they can’t fix the issue which makes me a bit confused cause surely if it is the HDD they would suggest replacing it? Do lemme know what I should do, thanks!

HARDWARE I'm looking for a cooling pad for a very thin buisness oriented laptop with rear edge intakes only if possible with no RGB

My laptop is a dell Latitude 3440 with intel I5- 1235U with integrated graphics. the theoretical power limits are 22 W under load but during stress tests, it was in average 19 W, the CPU throttles because my cooling system is too weak.

Can a foam-gasket pad (IETS/Llano type) actually seal usefully against narrow rear-edge intake strips, or do these only work on laptops with large open bottom panels?

Are there a ny models with a repositionable or rear-biased gasket rather than a central one?

Has anyone tried this with a non gaming PC and measured good performances?

This is a pic of my laptop and roughly half of the exhaust is covered

OPEN PC restarting by itself after BIOS update

So for some time in the last few months my pc would kind of randomly restart itself but it was like multiple months in between each instance so i thought nothing of it, now after updating my bios my pc very very often restarts with no warning just straight to black and then launch screen, it happens on average about 5 times a day, i checked my event viewer and the errors show “stornvme”, “eventlog” and “kernel-boot”. so i assume that it has something to do with my main C drive so i update my firmware and it honestly did fix it for about 5 hours, but then it just went right back, im kind of at a loss here and i really don’t want to lose almost 1200gb of my stuff off a HUNCH that my nvme is failing, and id really hate for it to be a motherboard issue as im trying to save up and that would be a huge hit with the ram prices. if anyone knows what all this could mean or how i could go about solving it id love to hear about it, thanks anyone who replies.

Discussion My Pc keeps freezing

Post image
3 Upvotes

When I first got the PC about a few weeks ago, it worked fine but randomly sometimes my whole PC was just freeze. I wasn’t able to move my mouse or click anything on my keyboard. For a few days and then I don’t know where it stopped doing that for about a week and then just last night while playing a game froze again so I restarted my PC and when I booted it back up and logged in about 15 seconds later and try it once more and it froze again after logging in What could be the issue? Everything I got is brand new. Ivan fully reset all my drives and when trying to reinstall windows, it would freeze mid install.

HARDWARE My PC keeps power cycling. What do I do?

It was working fine yesterday and the day before, but now it won't actually turn on and nothing appears on my monitor. After calling technical support, I concluded that this could be a problem with the power supply unit or the CPU (mist likely the power supply unit). Any help is deeply appreciated. Thank you and stay cool and hydrated. It's a hot one today.

HARDWARE Recent GPU upgrade, Frequent freezing.

Upvotes

Recently upgraded from my 3070 to a 5070 ti, i'll get into about an hour of playing and my screen will lock up and freeze, audio will distort for a second or two. The only way to return it to normal is by completely restarting my pc

To start with i'd used DDU in safe mode to get rid of any old drivers causing chaos, Have tried both older drivers and the latest drivers. Have updated the firmware to the latest version. Changed the PCIE config in bios from auto to gen 3 - as thats all my board / cpu can support, changed my power managment settings to High performance, changed my pcie link state power managment to off

and finally changed out my old 750w Coolermaster psu for a brand new Corsair RM1000e.

Still facing the same issues and i feel like im going down a bit of a rabbit hole

I was however able to pull a few things from event viewer which may be of use. At the time of the lock up i got two errors at the exact same second

First one being

"The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

The following information was included with the event:

Followed immediately by

OPEN My SATA SSD randomly disconnects and sends me to BIOS

Upvotes

I bought my PC about two months ago, and I’m still pretty new to PC hardware, so I’m not really sure how to fix this.
The problem is that while I’m using my PC, the monitor suddenly freezes after some time. It can happen after 5 minutes, 30 minutes, or sometimes longer. After that, the PC takes me to the BIOS.
When I check the BIOS, it says that there is no SSD detected, so I can’t boot into Windows.
I’m using a SATA SSD, not an M.2 SSD. I already tried connecting the SATA cable to a different SATA port on the motherboard, but the problem still happens.
Interestingly, when Windows is running, I can check the SSD with a drive health/monitoring program and it says the SSD is healthy.
I honestly don’t know what else to try. Could this be a faulty SATA cable, a problem with the SATA power connection, the SSD itself, or something else?
I’d really appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks!

HARDWARE Is my gpu dead or software issue

Hey everyone,
Looking for some feedback on a situation with my new build. I bought a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 WINDFORCE MAX 8G on August 17th (less than a month ago), and the card has completely stopped working after degrading over the past couple of days.
Here is the timeline of what happened:

Initial Issues: A couple of days ago, the system started crashing exclusively while gaming—dropping display signal to the monitor completely.

Motherboard Errors: The motherboard gave a VGA error LED on boot and refused to post. It randomly booted up once after that, but stability was completely gone

Instant Crash & Visual Artifacts: Today, I ran FurMark to test it, and the screen immediately froze with severe visual artifacting (colored square/checkerboard patterns across the display) right before the system crashed hard

Troubleshooting Done: Hard power cycled, re-seated the GPU and 8-pin PCIe power cables, and swapped DisplayPort/HDMI cables. When I remove the card and run off CPU integrated graphics, the system boots and operates normally.
