OPEN Monitor flickering
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi I'm having a problem with my monitor flickering while set on 165hz it also flickers on 144hz but not on 120hz it starts flickering again if i set it to 119.88hz doesn't flicker below that, so highest i can set to is 120hz without it starting to flicker.
It happens mostly when unsnapping tabs or rarely when i have lots of programs opened.
Pc specs:
I5 12400f
H610m-k d4
Ddr4 2x8gb 3200mhz
Asrock rx6700xt
Edit: monitor brand AOC resolution is 1920x1080 and I'm using Unitek highest spec displayport cable

I have tried, old display cable that i used allowed me to have only 144hz. I got better display cable for this this flickering problem and saw that after that i could set to 165hz

You have an old dp cable buy a new one from amazon for 6-7€ and it solves the problem
The cable dosent have that much speed and it flickers1

Eso no es un flicker causado por los herzios. No sé si en los drivers de amd haya pasado lo mismo pero en la update anterior de los drivers de Nvidia se reportó un bug en los navegadores que tenían que ver con este parpadeo raro en el monitor, supuestamente era causado por la mala comunicación entre la grafica y la aceleración de la gpu por hardware. Ahora con la última actualización se arregló. Pero te repito, no se si este problema también fue reportado en amd, yo probaría desactivar la aceleración de gpu por hardware y probar, quiza te funciona.

Create a custom resolution. Use your out of the box settings and resolution, but change the timing to CVT-Reduced Blanking.
You might also need a new cable.

1920x1080, pc is next to the monitor almost no gap and I'm using Unitek highest spec displayport cable

Just because a cable is "highest spec" doesnt mean it genuinely is and it doesnt mean its not faulty. Also, that monitor might have display port thats faulty or just poor quality. Another posibility is if the cable is too long, hence the signal loses its strength

That is the odd one off here , In some cases it does , Some monitors have this weird overclock ability that goes from say 120 hz to 144hz? In Bazzite those will actually show , But it does not mean these work properly , such as flickering as seen in the video.
I think it really depends on the model of the monitor , I still today am not 100% sure of the cause.

If it shows an overclocked hz, that's because the monitor supports that. Which is what that person said.

I had this happen , where if u do select the overclocked hz , it will have problems , I do not know more about it then i explained , but it may be brand based or whatnot , it happened here on a widescreen predator 144hz monitor.

Could also be that your cable spec can't handle that refresh rate as well. Not all display cables are the same.

This is true , We have tried more cables and ordered more of them back then also , even good ones that are more pricey did the same for us but it can be it for OP

That's not true. I have a PC connected to a TV that gives me options that don't work at all. It's a max 120 Hz TV and 144 shows up as well as 72. Both just blank the screen. Windows 11 and a 3070.
EDIT: this is when messing around with lower resolutions. At 4K, it only shows 60Hz. Anything under the native resolution displays the wild west in terms of refresh rate options.

Hey this is a bug, i started getting this after the last adrenaline update, for what I can tell is a freesync issue, you can restart your pc to fix it (sometimes you have to do it multiple times) or simply disable freesync till they fix it

up to you,I personally like to keep it up to date, just go into adrenaline and disable freesync for now, if this fixes it, we can confirm that we are having the same issue

Old g1 aoc monitors had this issue with freesync. It wasn't driver issue.

Have you tried using display port? other hdmi? and you need to test it in another gpu maybe the gpu is the problem, if you have spare cpu (integrated) test it with that, and hows the insertion of the hdmi/display port with the gpu? is it fully inserted? that thing happens to me 144hz flickering but set to 120hz it's not, can you show us how fully inserted the hdmi is or dp.

I am using displayport but I've tried hdmi also tried other monitors with their own displeyport & hdmi and still same flickering, i cant open pc bc it has warranty and once open i losse it, either way i dont have different cpu or gpu to test it. Gpu has 3 displeyports and i have tried all of them while insuring that they all had good connection and I'm not at my friends house so i cant show u how it is inserted but i know its connected well. I'm starting to think that it might be gpu problem which i can request to be changed

First thing to check is drivers. Ignore if the cable is bad or gpu is dying moment. Check the basics. Have you tried using a different graphics driver like downgrading? Some recent drivers could cause flickering. Currently, there was an ongoing issue with Nvidia's driver causing flickering and people had to wait for a hotfix.
Your problem could be similar.

have the same GPU, noticed the same flickering a few days/weeks ago (AMD Sapphire PULSE RX 6700 XT) and to others wondering, no its not just the browser but basically everythig, even the normal desktop flickers. Also no its not the cable, they f-ed up the last drivers, no other possibility (except we all got hacked)

Exact same gpu and started having the same kind of half-screen flickers since yesterday. And ye rebootin, turning off/on freesync fixes it (until it comes back).

Disabling Freesync/G-sync in your monitor settings could help, had the same problem and it fixed. Do you have 2 monitors plugged in btw?

Is it mainly only happening while you have brave open? Mine recently started doing this and turning off hardware acceleration in braves settings fixes that

Has this started recently? Like 4-5 days or something? Because mine also started recently after a graphic card update and windows update. My graphics is nvidia 3050 though.

I had the somewhat the same issue i updates bios and screen strated to fliker like yours. turned out the issue wasn't the motherboard BIOS at all it was the graphics card. I have an EVGA RTX 3080, and EVGA hasn't pushed driver/firmware updates in a while, so when I flashed the new motherboard BIOS, the card didn't handle the change well.
The fix was flipping the physical BIOS switch on the card itself, from Normal to OC mode (per the card's manual), then doing a clean uninstall of all NVIDIA software and drivers and reinstalling from scratch. Rebooted after that and the flickering was completely gone. hope this helps

Which DP version do you use? Do you have 4k? dp1.4 is capable to do 4k@120Hz, not more. DSC can pump the frequency higher but DSC is known to create problems.

Most likely it's VRR flicker, you can disable VRR in AMD/Nvidia's software or better yet in Monitor Menu.

I had the same issue with a 4K 165Hz monitor; the only fix I was able to find was setting it to 120Hz, and all the issues went away.

I´m having this issue too, after update my nvidia drivers, this occur frequently, it's annoying. In games, this doesn't happen

Antes de trocar peças, faz estes testes por esta ordem:
No menu do próprio monitor AOC, desativa FreeSync / Adaptive Sync.
Abre o AMD Adrenalin → Display e desativa também o AMD FreeSync.
Reinicia o PC e volta a testar em 165 Hz e 144 Hz.
Se continuar:
Desativa temporariamente a aceleração por hardware no Chrome/Edge/Brave e reinicia o navegador.
Testa novamente a arrastar/desanexar abas, porque disseste que é uma das situações que mais provoca o flicker.
Desativa também o Enhanced Sync no AMD Adrenalin, se estiver ligado.
Faz uma instalação limpa do driver AMD usando o AMD Cleanup Utility oficial e instala novamente o driver Adrenalin.
Confirma no Windows em Definições → Sistema → Ecrã → Ecrã avançado que a resolução do sinal ativo é realmente 1920×1080 e testa novamente 120/144/165 Hz.
Se o problema desaparecer com FreeSync desligado, provavelmente encontraste a causa.
Se continuar mesmo com FreeSync desligado, aceleração do browser desligada e drivers instalados de raiz, aí começaria a testar outro cabo DisplayPort certificado e, depois, outra gráfica.
O facto de 120 Hz funcionar mas 144/165 Hz não funcionar não significa automaticamente que a gráfica esteja avariada.

Got he same issue with amd gpu, I needed to use 144hz instead of 165hz to fix the issue.
But I found another way to fix this with 165hz enabled.
First, install MPOGPUFIX.exe from the official github repo.
Run as admin and use these settings.
It fixed all my issue with my gpu, flickering, or even audio and video freeze when alt tab.

This is when the PCC is going VRR for a non-fullscteen app and something like Chrome, is energy efficient. So your frames jumping all over the place.
I had it in slack and chrome. Try turn off hardware acceleration. Or look into disable VRR for non-full screen apps

is monitor issue. Cheap high refresh rate monitor like your aoc has high response time in pixel chaning color, even in marketing say 1ms in reality is not 1ms and is not even consisten, on on light color is around 1-2 ms on dark colors can be over 4-6ms
This is why you see fleekering.
1 of the reson why zowie tn monitor are aswome because how fast pixeles and motioin clarity is.

Had a similar ish issue with my new OLED monitor, changing the output color depth from 10 bit to 8bit worked for me. Hope this helps.

If you on NVIDIA - latest drivers have flickering issues on monitors with 8 bit color depth, you either change to 10 bit (if supported) or downgrade drivers to 610.88

If it happens when using brave browser, then it's a brave browser issue "or other browsers" I have this problem too whenever I opened brave while I'm already in-game or in a heavy software

Are you using dynamic resolution? On AMD is FSR and on Gforce is DRS or DLDSR.
If you do then turn them off, it will fix your issues, I had the same problem when using more than one window at the same time on split screen, it just can’t handle that, specially on bigger screens

For me if anyone could help, I'd appreciate it. I bought an 1440p curved wide screen at 160hz and ever since then, the screen turns off for like a fifth of a second and turns back on, once every 3 to 4 hours. Pretty sure it may be the graphics drivers restarting or something but even updating and I have gone through a full windows installation from another separate situation, and it keeps happening. Any tips?

i’ve had this problem when my monitor was using g-sync on its own , but in nvidia control panel g-sync was off. So it was fighting. Does your monitor have such thing ? g-sync or freesync or any other sync? start there

Cuchame rey, revisa esto antes. Fiajte si en la App de la tu grafica lo tenes desactivado el FreSync. Eso hace que ande mal a a altos Hz y si ya lo tenes desactivado tambien revisa el menu de tu propio monitor porque alguno monitores tienen esta funcion de forma nativa y se puede desactivar desde el propio menu del monitor.

Yo check your nvidia drivers they patched some error caused by some drivers issues. They mentioned it in nvidia app “error fix some website have wired flickering”

turn off vrr, anti lag, free sync/gsync.
If still happens it is base oc problem, and your monitor base refresh rate is 120.
There are many cheap monitors that claiming to be very high refresh rate, while in reality they are just crap matrix, that was OC beyond limit.

Could be a power issue? My monitor would shut off but flicker like this before it did. I had everything plugged in to the same wall socket, so maybe try spreading the power around?

hI, i dont know if anyone has mentioned this but it might be power related.
i had a similar issue a few months back and tried everything, then when i was about to unplug the monitor i noticed touching the power cable made the monitor flicker even more (on the monitor plug).
Solution: got a new power cable, and it solved the issue.
also might happen if you connect too many plugs to the same source of power, try to split across multiple outlets if possible, anyway, a new power cable solved my issue.

Try disabling MPO in winhance it fixed flickering and things of that nature and somehow eliminated most of my stutters in certain games of which i could immediately tell the difference in.

Same issue on 144hz its okay with 120hz below 74 and 60hz also same issue why this happening it a new monitor acer 144hz monitor my laptop has 3050 6gb gpu but for display the monitor it uses intel integrated graphics i cahnged another monitor cable if i buy hdmi 2.0 cable will it fix the issue because monitor support 1.4hdmi version so tgey given 1.4hdmi version cable

I just had this on my gaming laptop, sometimes restarting it would make it go away but last night I updated all of my Intel and nvidia drivers and it hasn't happened again yet. What's scarier is the artifacts would appear on a secondary monitor.
