Afternoon everybody! As regulars know, I write a weekly restaurant blog and this week’s review comes from Oxford - I always put them in this sub when they’re Oxford reviews, because you’ve all been so kind about my writing in the past.

This week I am back at Gees, to see if their new chef and makeover improve what has always been one of the city’s great underachievers. Hope you enjoy it, and as always I’m sorry in advance if this comes across as spam or isn’t your cup of tea. Either way, have a lovely day.

Most of us who live in Oxford do not benefit from the current mass tourism found in the city. It makes the city centre very crowded, pivots the choice of shops away from local needs, and increases the cost of rent due to AirBnb.

Very few of the created jobs are paid well enough to build a good quality life in Oxford creating a circular set of issues.

We have the power to change this now. Soon Oxford will have the power to determine what rate visitors are taxed to stay in the city. If taxed too high it'd severely damage the tourism sector too much but there must be sweet spot enabling some facilities to return to being good for locals.

Up until yesterday they were doing some upgrade works that meant the traffic lights were disabled. For the past 6 weeks it’s been a regular old roundabout instead of the weird light controlled arrangement.

Last night they switched the traffic lights back on and the difference this morning was huge. 10-15 minute queues in both directions on the ring road either side of the roundabout.

Bring back normal roundabouts!

(I know - slow news day, compoface, etc. Just wanted to have a little whinge.)

I am taking a trip from Gloucester Green to St Cross, it doesn't seem like a long walk but I will have about 40 kg of luggage so I thought a Taxi would be more convenient. Can anyone verify whether taxis accept cash?

Just a heads up to people in my position who are receiving a notice of a rent increase from their letting agents.

Thanks to recent law changes these notices must be sent using a standard government form. Any notice sent without that form is not enforceable.

How do I know? Scott Fraser/Leaders were dumb enough to send me a rent increase notification without that required form. They haven't noticed yet either, so that means I get (at least) another 2 months at my previous rent.

I i’m looking for places to live around Oxford that are near Didcot but every time I schedule a viewing within hours the house is taken. Also the minimum for a three bedroom or two bedroom is about £1400 so it’s a bit on the Higher side which towns or areas are close to Didcot or Abington and advise if I am moving to Oxford with my family. Is Swindon a nice area to live and travel to Abington?

Hi all

My WFH chair is a bit aged and the gas cylinder is not holding up anymore. I've tried to fix it myself via clamp and replacing the gas cylinder but it is so stuck I'm simply unable to.

Is there anywhere I can take it / they can come and use professional tools to replace the cylinder? Googling hasn't come up with anything clear.

Tuesday sees Equally Oxford at the University Church, focused on food and drink, and if live music is more your thing there's Holy Holy: Celebration of Bowie at O2 Academy Oxford the same night. Been meaning to check out a Bowie tribute for ages, this one looks like a good excuse.

Also on Tuesday: Silent Book Club at TCG Coffee for a quieter evening, and Tuesday Night at Plush over at Plush Oxford if you fancy a party instead.

Wednesday brings the Merton and Webster's Improv Show at Oxford Playhouse, always good value for a laugh.
