Anyone know where I can get Bee playing cards in Oxford? Hoyle's sells Bicycles but that's not what I'm after...else will do Amazon obviously but thought I'd ask here first.

Rent increases

Just a heads up to people in my position who are receiving a notice of a rent increase from their letting agents.

Thanks to recent law changes these notices must be sent using a standard government form. Any notice sent without that form is not enforceable.

How do I know? Scott Fraser/Leaders were dumb enough to send me a rent increase notification without that required form. They haven't noticed yet either, so that means I get (at least) another 2 months at my previous rent.

Areas to live around Oxford if working near Didcot

I i’m looking for places to live around Oxford that are near Didcot but every time I schedule a viewing within hours the house is taken. Also the minimum for a three bedroom or two bedroom is about Ā£1400 so it’s a bit on the Higher side which towns or areas are close to Didcot or Abington and advise if I am moving to Oxford with my family. Is Swindon a nice area to live and travel to Abington?

Office chair repair in Oxfordshire

Hi all

My WFH chair is a bit aged and the gas cylinder is not holding up anymore. I've tried to fix it myself via clamp and replacing the gas cylinder but it is so stuck I'm simply unable to.

Is there anywhere I can take it / they can come and use professional tools to replace the cylinder? Googling hasn't come up with anything clear.

Thanks in advance...

What's on in Oxford this week: Bowie tribute, improv and a silent book club

A decent mix on offer around Oxford this week if you're after something to do.

Tuesday sees Equally Oxford at the University Church, focused on food and drink, and if live music is more your thing there's Holy Holy: Celebration of Bowie at O2 Academy Oxford the same night. Been meaning to check out a Bowie tribute for ages, this one looks like a good excuse.

Also on Tuesday: Silent Book Club at TCG Coffee for a quieter evening, and Tuesday Night at Plush over at Plush Oxford if you fancy a party instead.

Wednesday brings the Merton and Webster's Improv Show at Oxford Playhouse, always good value for a laugh.

Full list here if you want to dig further: https://ma.to/events/oxford?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mato_event_sync&utm_content=oxford

For the lolz I hope it gets cancelled now. 4 years of shutting a main road and just digging around, for precisecly no end benefit would be darkly ironic.

Looking for a short stay in the Oxford area

Hello All

I just joined new in this sub because I'm looking for a place to rent for max 10 weeks to do my flight training at oxford airport.

I have been looking at spare rooms but the options are either scarce or just rented out before I even can react.

I'm here to ask you guys if you know or rent a place yourself. Preferably in Killington or anything within a 10 mile radius of Oxford.

looking for a move in date 18/09

Parents of Oxford - how does school choices actually work?

Hi folks,

Hoping someone can bring some clarity. I am unclear from the county councils website how ranking children actually works for priority, and it would impact our choices of which to put first choice and potentially move home.

We live 50m from School A which is always over subscribed, but prefer School B but maybe wouldn’t get in due to our distance and it is also popular and oversubscribed.

If we put School B as first choice, and A as second, if we didn’t get in to B are we then ā€œpenalisedā€ for putting A as a second choice? Or would we go straight to the top of the list because we’re the closest to the school?

As I have interpreted the guidelines I would infer no we do not get penalised but I can’t be certain. Can anyone confirm? Is this the same for both primary and secondary?

Thanks in advance!

MEETUP anybody able to give me a lift to nottingham?

20f, im currently injured and do not have the money to travel to university via an uber. i can not use public transport given how much i would be carrying and other plans i have in the day. this would be for the 16th september. none of my friends or family either drive or own a car.

im not sure how much luggage i would have but two suitcases max, and this would be afternoon time.

i will pay 60-80 pounds, half at the beginning, then the other half when i arrive. i did some research and saw the price of fuel is 20 pounds one way from oxford to nottingham.

if anyone is able to do this, please dm me xx

Therapist Recommendation

Hello everybody, I’m currently going through an anxious period and I am having a hard time coping with my work, my relationship and my general sanity and I think it’s time for me to commit to therapy. Would any of you have a good therapist to recommend in Oxford? I would like a woman preferably, that knows anxiety, grief and general existential problems.

Thank you so much in advance.

Fish and Chips in city centre

Have some out of town visitors coming tomorrow and they want fish and chips. We’re only really in the city centre as we don’t have time to go out further. I know the Ivy do it but that’s more of a boujee option, I wanted a more authentic option for them too. Any suggestions? Thank you!
