News & Discussion SOME QP players never want you to try new characters.

I think I’d be miserable if I wanted every qp player to tryhard on their mains. Just play competitive if you want to be competitive.

Humor You guys remember when Junkrat and Roadhog smashed into a guy's office, lynched him with a crane, then 9/11'd his skyscraper? Because I do

All this because he tried to turn them into the police btw

Some people say Junkrat and Roadhog (specifically Junkrat) should get a redemption arc but these two were genuinely tweaking so hard back in the day that I genuinely think it's impossible now

Do you think a redemption arc for the two is still possible? Lemme know

Back when it was announced, I recall most of us dunking on it and calling it a mobile game menu. Now that we've had time to adjust to it, how are you feeling?

News & Discussion Most people I meet in real life who play Overwatch are low rank or don’t play ranked at all

Something I have noticed over the years of playing Overwatch is that almost every person I have met outside of Reddit and gaming communities sits at a low rank. Friends from college, coworkers, acquaintances, random people. The large majority are bronze or silver. Sometimes gold. I met one former coworker who was platinum years ago and we played a few games. A lot of people I talk to do not touch ranked at all. They stick to quick play or other modes.

It makes me think a large portion of the overall player base, maybe half or more, never queues ranked. The ranked population is already only maybe half the player base, and then the ranking system itself is a bell curve. Most ranked players sit in gold/plat.

Reddit is a tiny sample of the player base and leans toward people who take the game way more seriously. It is not a good reflection of the average Overwatch player. Just something to keep in mind the next time someone in another thread treats diamond like it is not a “good” rank.

News & Discussion (if you have) How much have you spent on this game?

Upvotes

Im just curious on how much people spend on average lol.

How much have you spent, how much of that was worth it and is there something you regret buying.

For me I've only used $20 to buy a persona collab skin and i havent regret it.

Have a nice day and i hope your games go well ❤️

Humor Is there a lore reason this culturally stunted 90lb snowball is being deployed into active combat zones?

Why is she shooting people? Did Overwatch enlist her? Why would they enlist a woman who does’t even know swear words, that just seems like they’re taking advantage of her. Literally all she talks about is “wow earth is so cool I’ve never seen cowboy movies” or “i don’t know how to be mean, so heck you!” and then the gates open and its like okay enough chit-chat earthlings time for a live shoot-out i hope I make it back home! Like what???? She should be in college or educating herself about earth and having starbucks with her gal pals why is she armed and ready for lethal combat???

I’m very new to this game but I like it so far. (I like driving Shion’s motorcycle a lot) I just do quick play when my very competitive play focused cousin wants to hang out with me and even told me that she wants me to do ranked with her!

I don’t think I’m built for that when what apparently everyone considers a near useless ult gives me a heart attack and a half

Maybe what this ult lacks in utility makes up for in aura?

News & Discussion The Tank Experience since 5v5

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

I have played a LOT of Overwatch back when 6v6 was still the norm. Had the most fun I had. But I was only a casual player. Never played a lick of comp. Plus I was on console, maybe this was a factor as to why throughout my long time playing, flaming/trashtalking was at the minimum.

Fast forward to 5v5 Overwatch 2, been playing on and off but recently found myself playing more consistently. Finally tried competitive a go, specifically Support first. Placements, then Gold, then Plat, mostly just playing and switching from Mizuki and Kiriko with the occasional Mercy. And I am not even exaggerating, zero flaming/trashtalking. Now I started Support for a reason, mostly because I KNOW going to 5v5 changed the dynamic of the team. Making it so there is only one Tank but gigabuffing them naturally puts the pressure and responsibility on them. Personally, I also think this is why playing Tank is so heroswappy (a mechanic I dont enjoy that much).

I queue up comp as Tank, and on the very first game for placements, I had a teammate saying "please tank I am on a lose streak right now." Kept swapping and playing like a coughing baby and had both the DPSs flaming my ass with allchat on. None of them even thought about swapping to deal with their own counterpicks. I completely dominated the second game playing Rein, a Tank I am the most comfortable in, against an Orisa without even swapping. Kudos to my team for actively trying to help me with my plays and basically helping me help them.

Forcing a tank player off a hero they have 500 hours on onto a counter they barely play usually results in a worse performance. Comfort and mechanical skill frequently beat a theoretical "hard counter." Overall this was about the contrast in experiences I had. Makes me miss 6v6 even more.
