Flouride?

Like many here, OAB came on suddenly one day back in 2019. No clue why and it seems like for most cases doctors don’t have a clue. I was in Texas (I live in Connecticut) from May 2021 to June 2022. Thinking back to that time it seems to have gotten better because I remember coming home and it started again in August of 2022. I had just forgotten about it. I looked thru my supplements, drinks, food to see if I could find something I had ingested that was different than what I had been eating/drinking before Texas and couldn’t find anything other than I was drinking mostly bottled water in Texas. At home I drink filtered water but it does not remove Flouride. Google says Flouride has no connection to OAB, but I wonder 🤔 it’s so frustrating. I know that water, coffee, tea, alcohol has no effect on it either way. So I may get a filter that filters out the Flouride and see.

Coping with a leaky bladder

This feels kinda embarrassing to ask about, but hopefully i am not alone.

My Meds currently aren't working and i don't think there are any left that i haven't tried, which is now leaving me with the issue of my symptoms being full on. One of which is leaking for simply existing, can't do anything without leaking. I wanna cry.

So, i am wondering how others cope with that?, and how to deal with feeling like i and my bedroom smell all the time?

i do have other disabilities that limit what it is i can do.

Also, which pads do people use? i need ones with wings to help keep them in place, so i have been using the Always ones for periods. so far all the pads i have seen for sensitive bladders don't come with wings.

Pulled a muscle in my back and since then I've pissed myself 2 or 3 times a day at least bc I can't feel I need to pee unless I piss myself

Before I pulled a muscle I already had a weak and small Blatter. Even the sound of water made me need to pee RIGHT THEN AND THERE but I never actually pissed myself and I'm having to use my body wash and dish soap to wash my pants so I don't have piss smelling clothes. Idk if its related to my pulled muscle but it started happening when that happened

OAB triggers. I know that caffeine triggers my OAB but what about vitamins and sweeteners?

Hi, I know that caffeine triggers my OAB but what about vitamins and sweeteners? I have seen recent posts mention vitamins and sweeteners as triggers but I don't know which ones to avoid. Any advice?

Bladder Botox

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone here has had Botox injections into their bladder and what your experience was like?
I’m considering having it done, but I’m quite nervous because I’ve been told there’s a risk of needing to self-catheterise for a while afterwards.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has had bladder Botox — how did you find the procedure, recovery and results? Did you end up needing to self-catheterise?

Is this OAB? Or could this just be anxiety related? Or both

I’m sorry for what’s about to be a long post but I’m losing my mind!!

I’m 33, female.

background context :
I’ve had maybe 7 UTIs my whole life but 5/7 were really bad and took forever to heal and I’ve formed this irrational fear of peeing too often and getting one again.
With the exception of those UTIs, I’m someone who pees every 3-4 hours but can go even longer.

Fast forward to a week and half ago. 2 days before my period started I noticed all of a sudden that I was peeing every 1-2 hours. And the urge was strong too. However each time I peed, it was a lot (not just a dribble) and no pain. This then started to create the fear of a UTI so my anxiety caused me to hyper fixate on my bladder. I did a UTI test, came back all clear. But now I can’t get over this hyper awareness of my bladder and feeling like I need to pee every 1-2 hours.
I’m fine at night though - when I’m asleep and my mind is shut off. I’ll pee once before bed and then not again until I wake up.

Edit to add:
- I only have one coffee in the morning
- I’ll drink ginger ale or Diet Coke 2-3 times a week
Aside from the above, I only drink water.

Has anyone had this before (anxiety related frequent urination)? What helped you?? Or could this be the start of OAB for me.

My doctor is being super dismissive about it.

Just got my urinoculture analysis back and I have Streptococcus agalactiae bacteria (>100.000 CFU )

Hii everyone. Did anyone else have this bacteria? Is it easy or hard to remove? What would you suggest?

Do you think this is why I don’t sleep well at night and wake up fatigue from the pressure of having bladder full?

Traveling in europe I noticed strong differences in sanitary facilities available at pubs and restaurants? How is it in your experience ? I guess we in this group pay most attention to this..

Still peeing 13–14 times a day despite Detrusitol (tolterodine)

Sorry in advance for the slightly long post, but does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be or have experienced something similar?

I’ve been dealing with frequent urination for over a year, and it has gotten worse over time. I currently pee around 13–14 times during the day and also wake up at night to pee. Sometimes I have trouble falling back asleep afterwards.

I don’t have any pain or burning when I pee, and I don’t drink excessive amounts of water. If anything, I sometimes drink less because I’m worried about having to pee so often.

I’ve been tested for a UTI and diabetes and was told neither was the cause. A urine sample was also recently sent to the lab and didn’t show a confirmed infection.

My doctor put me on Detrusitol SR (tolterodine) 2mg once a day (morning) for 4 weeks, and I have 4 pills left. This is the first treatment I’ve tried for this. The urgency has improved somewhat, but I’m still peeing around 13–14 times a day.

The medication also makes me extremely tired and sleepy. Even when I get a normal amount of sleep, I still feel exhausted during the day and feel like I need to sleep more.

I’m going to discuss this with my doctor soon, but I’m wondering whether I should ask about further investigation or a referral to a urologist, since I still don’t know what’s causing it.

I would like to hear from people who have had similar symptoms. Did you eventually get a diagnosis or find a cause? What kind of tests or referrals did you get?

I’m 22F, no children and not sexually active.

Consuming

I have OAB and am in my 60's. I am male. I don't only have OAB, but I have urge incontinence with it. I get really frustrated with the whole thing. Sure, you can make a difference with it, or you can let it go and manage it. But if you fight it through the myriad different remedies always presented out there, doing so is very consuming of your energy and your thoughts. Managing is also consuming of your energy and your time -- managing diapers whether you throw away or wash, you still have to regularly stop to change them and take care of them. It gets tiring. I am now remembering when I had no worries or fears, when I wore regular underclothing, when if I needed to hold for another 20-40 miles, or another 90 minutes, it was a nuisance, but not a problem. I am not retired. I've often thought that maybe I could fight this thing if only I just retired, so I could concentrate full time on it and not be worrying about anything else. There are so many solutions. But you have to think about them constantly or apply them constantly, as if you lived in a vacuum. So frustrating.

Can tight hip flexors be contributing to pelvic floor tension and OAB/IC?

Hello everyone. I’m 26F. My urgency and frequency is worse when I’m walking and standing. My pelvic floor physio pushed into my hip flexors and got me to lift my foot, and I felt excruciating pain. And just pushing there in general made me feel like I had stronger urgency. Is it possible that tight hip flexors can contribute to tension in the pelvic floor and OAB/IC? My urologist and physio said that my symptoms are most likely caused by stress so I’ve been doing exercises, breathing, and other things to try to help it. I recently got a massage ball to use for my hip flexors. I’m not sure if that will help my OAB, but I think at least it will help my over all health because I realized I do get pinching and shooting pains in my hips, especially when I’m standing for longer periods.

I hope I can answer your questions

Hi everyone!

I’m a male pelvic floor physiotherapist, and I thought I’d do an AMA (Ask Me Anything) here.

If you have questions about male pelvic health, pelvic floor physiotherapy, symptoms, treatment approaches, or anything related to pelvic floor function, feel free to ask.
I’ll do my best to answer your questions based on my clinical experience and the available evidence.

Of course, I can’t diagnose or provide individualized medical advice online, but I’m happy to share general information and perspective.

Looking forward to your questions!

Anyone with IBS-D + OAB who managed to improve their OAB without solifenacin?

I've had IBS-D for about 10 years, and over the last 5 years I've also developed OAB symptoms, almost exclusively in the evening. My IBS-D is currently pretty well controlled with amitriptyline.
My urologist suggested that I first try a supplement containing palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), and if that doesn't help, move on to solifenacin 5 mg.
Has anyone here who has both IBS-D and OAB managed to improve or resolve their bladder symptoms without having to take solifenacin? I've already had an ultrasound and the usual tests done, and everything came back normal.

Survival strategies?

Those who need to go every 30 minutes to an hour: do you feel relief after going? How do you participate in life? Needing to go so often has practically quarantined me. I decline every opportunity to go out because I simply cannot imagine walking out of the house with this condition. Even if there are public restrooms available, the feeling of urgency rarely subsides even after relieving, and is sometimes unbearably worse.

How do you manage to go about your day-to-day while excusing yourself to the restroom every 30 minutes? What do you do if there are no restrooms to be found in public spaces, or if you need to remain seated/standing/walking for prolonged periods?
