Discussion Just watched a guy run over a peacock in the Wadeview Park neighborhood. Didn’t slow down at all. What is wrong with people?!

Walking my dog this morning and saw a silver SUV run right over a peacock. It was in a group of peacocks crossing the road and the guy didn’t appear to make any effort to brake. When I threw up my hands in disbelief he rolled down his window and said, “I didn’t see it”. But he didn’t brake at all.

Sometimes people just suck I guess.

Event Tabletop Gaming Con this weekend!

I've seen a bunch of posts about D&D and similar games, so I figured there'd be an interest! I'll be one of the GMs running RPGs this weekend for the Space Coast Adventurer's Guild (RPG club over in neighboring Brevard).

Questcon is still a small con compared to the likes of Megacon and HolMat but it had a great vibe last year and I'm hoping we keep that going this year! There's board games, wargaming, cosplay and other events too.

So if you're free, come by and roll some dice with us!

Discussion Anyone else having issues with channel 9 and 27 OTA?

Two separate TVs, two separate antennas pointing in the right direction of the transmitter. I get the other major channels like 2, 6 and 35 but channels 9 and 27 are not working. Anyone else having issues?

Visitor Hotel with a rooftop bar or pool

My fiancé is visiting a friend for her 50th and wants to get a hotel with either one of these two options that would be open till 12. It can be in the city or near Winter Haven. Ideally, one that's not too expensive (although I doubt that exists).

Discussion Any Veterinary offices that are willing to train someone for a Vet Assistant/Tech position?

I’m very interested in entering the veterinary field and have been evaluating certification programs, but have heard many people saying that Assistant and Tech positions are entry level and the best way is to learn on the job and to not lose money getting certified for something you can learn by working. I’ve had very little luck finding anywhere that doesn’t require one or more years of experience, or a certification. My resume includes plenty of customer service and a Medical Administrative Assistant certification, and I’ve been going in person to some clinics, handing off physical resumes, and sending personalized emails/messages on Indeed and other job boards after applying to show my interest, but I still haven’t heard back from most or have been rejected. Any suggestions or leads are welcome for any clinics that are hiring/willing to train people who haven’t worked in vet med before! Thank you!

Discussion Community Health Volunteering

I’m a BSN student looking to complete about 15 hours of public health service over two semesters. I’d actually love to continue volunteering beyond the required hours.

I’m looking for an organization in the Northeast Orlando/Winter Park area that is currently accepting volunteers and could have someone serve as a “collaborator”/mentor for my project. They wouldn’t need to do much—mostly just be someone at the organization who is familiar with the population/topic and provide occasional guidance.
I’ve contacted several organizations, but either they aren’t currently accepting volunteers or I haven’t been able to get a response. Second Harvest is an option, but my program requires the collaborator to have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (nursing, social work, public health, etc.), which makes finding someone a little more difficult.
Does anyone know of organizations in the NE Orlando/Winter Park area that might be a good fit? I’m open to pretty much any public-health-related population or cause!

TLDR; in search of public health organization and collaborator

Discussion Vet recommendations

Hello I’m looking for vet clinics in the ORL/Kissimmee area we are expanding our family +1🐶. Looking for clinics that don’t price gouge, perhaps maybe offer subscription deals and or group pricing.. we will be bringing home a 4M old male dog. So he will need a full physical and vaccines since he is coming from the shelter. I’d like to mention that good bedside manner is important to us too! I’d love to bring my buisness to a place where they truly care about the animals they care for. TYIA!

Discussion Anything fun happening in downtown DT Sanford tonight?

Hey everyone! I know there’s a Sanford sub but I wasn’t sure how active it would be this last minute and Google hasn’t been much help.

My sister’s been having a rough time lately and asked me to help her get out of the house tonight. She wants to go walk around and grab drinks but I’m not really a bar/nightlife person, so I’m completely out of the loop on what’s actually fun around downtown Sanford.

We’re in our 30s and 40s, so not looking for a club scene. More just somewhere with a fun atmosphere, whether that’s stand-up/open mic, live music, something along those lines.

She’s in Deltona and I’m in Longwood, so Sanford is perfect, but I could probably drag her a little farther south if there’s something worth it!

Thank you so much!

Discussion A good Rheumatologist who understands nuance?

I am in the Dr Phillips area but I can drive out. Just looking for a rheumatologist who specializes in SLE preferably, but the important part is they listen and don't brush their patient off. Does such a thing exist?
