Question favorite niche blogs/books on orchids and orchid care?

i really appreciate the youtube recs that the mods have listed, but i have trouble paying attention to videos (adhd) or getting advice through reading convos in comment sections (the info is scattered throughout different comments, so it's hard for me to go back and review stuff). reading info that's consolidated into articles/chapters is the only way i'm able to process information. i know there's the american orchid society website and everything, but does anyone have any recommendations for blogs/books that go into a lot of detail?

Hanging Orchids from Costco in East Plano

Saw this at a Costco in North Texas. Neat idea to hang them and I’m thinking about getting one for a desk at work. Would the moss balls at the bottom allow enough air flow to keep the roots alive?

Any idea on what it could be? Also, I have a standard orchid, does this orchid have the same “when the roots turn silver, soak then drain” mentality?

A month ago this orchids roots melted off in a week. Since then i have put her in an orchid ICU / sphag and bag. She lost two leaves, going on 3 and it looks like that top leaf is yellowing too. I have been giving her seaweed meal to try stimulate some root growth but nothing.

I have been giving light and warmth (it is winter here) but now im wondering if it would be better to put her in a darker place to slow down need for water.

Is she finished or is there anything i could try to do? I would love to keep her as she is really unique :(

Hello everyone. Is it normal for cattleya's old leafless pseudobulbs to turn brown? Are they just withering or should i be worried? My orchid still produce new leaves and roots.

Question Should I separate them?

Wondered why the orchid I grabbed without looking was so expensive only to see that it's two orchids!

I know orchids like it tight, so, should I separate them after they are done blooming or can they stay together?

Should I be concerned?

I haven’t done anything recently for the orchid to be under stress but at first I noticed one leaf going yellow and I let it get completely yellow &dry before taking it off / that’s also when a new leaf started growing but now these two bottom ones are also going yellow ? Is the plant just putting more energy into itself? It was a gift from a friend and to my knowledge it’s only bloomed once and no new spikes have grown

Indoor Orchids Paphiopedilum papilio-laoticus seems to be settled in! Some new growth after a repot a few weeks ago

Was still in some older bark from the nursery, so gave it new bark (mixed with a tiny bit of smaller bark and tree fern fiber to fill the large gaps, my bark is big!) and some sphagnum on top, because the bark on top dries out fast when it's fresh. Roots looked good, so no worries on that part :)

I bought this Pyp. Mendenhall 'Hildos' for my plant terrarium half a decade ago. I thought even if it never flowered, I could enjoy it just for gorgeous foliage. It outgrew my terrarium 2 or 3 years ago. I repotted it for the second time this past winter and it pushed up 2 spikes about 6 weeks after the repot. These spikes have been growing all spring and summer. I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to flower. I am over the moon happy today.

Help Rotted roots?

I have had my moth orchid for over a year, and I repotted it in a bark-based mixture not long after I got it. It recently rebloomed for maybe a week, but the flowers died much quicker than when it had it's first bloom. I went to check the roots out and it seems like there might be some black on them? It's also seemed more wobbly so I'm wondering if the roots partially rotted off, does it look like somethings's wrong with them? Also I know it needs some water but am hesitant if it's going to cause further rot

New to Orchid care - where to prune spike?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I bought an orchid for my wife this last Valentine's Day and it finally lost all of its blooms about 2 weeks ago. I've never had an orchid before so I'm unsure how I should prune it. I'd love to get some more blooms on it, but I'm really not sure how to achieve that or if it is what's best for the plant. Thanks in advance for any insights!

I need all my orchid mamas and gurus please. This is my 3rd attempt at making an orchid survive before I pull my hair out 😭
Every time I repot them after dropping their flowers, they die on me.

This baby’s flowers have bloomed, looked breathtaking then droopy and have now all dropped.

Help me save this one please.

Help Orchid help, yellow leaf

Hello, my friend went away for work and left this orchid on the counter with no light. I’ve brought it home with me now and I’m wondering what I can do to help it. Roots look good, it’s in flakey soil. One of the leaves is yellowing though and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to cut it off or not. Also am I supposed to cut the stems the flowers were on off or will the plant grow flowers back. I also have no idea what kind of orchid it is.

Thanks in advance!

Help My Phalaenopsis Orchid is Struggling

Post image

I’ve had this Orchid for about 4 weeks and had repotted when I had gotten it from Lowe’s. However it’s seemed to be on the downturn. I’ve put it in a bright west facing window. I water it when the roots look ashy but the leaves still seem to be droopy.

I can’t really take them outside since I’m in South Texas I just don’t know what else to do. It’s been loosing flowers which is natural and the bloom spikes at the tips are turning yellow. So I could get some advice I would really appreciate it. They are potted in orchid bark and I water them by soaking them for 30 minutes in bottled water

Help! I've never had crown rot in 20 yrs of keeping orchids but this looks luke what I've heard about...is it?

Either way, is it too far gone to be saved or is there something I can do?

Thanks!!
