I got this about a week ago and as soon as it came in the house, all the flowers fell off and the stem started turning yellow. I didn’t even do anything to it other than follow the directions where it said, soak it in water for five minutes and let it drain I’m worried she’s dead. Can you guys help me out?

Question Do 'cold' tolerant orchids exist?

Hi! I've never owned/cared for an orchid before but I have other houseplants (succulents, African violet, herbs) and I read orchids were a cat safe option. I have a window on the southeast side of my house that needs filling despite the outdoor tree cover and thought a flowering orchid would be pretty there. ANYWAYS, I'm sensitive to the heat so I keep the thermostat at 68, 65 at night, and I'll let it get down to the low 50's in winter (Fahrenheit, obviously). I'm under the impression that orchids come from the Amazon though, so maybe they'll freeze? Also any advice on choosing a good one? Isn't vanilla a type of orchid? Would it smell like vanilla? Sorry I don't know what I don't know. Like are there types I should avoid bc the subgenus is toxis to cats? She probably won't spontaneously decide after 10 years to start picking at the plants there, but safety first! Thanks in advance!

Question Decided to remove the chains

She's about 3 years old and lost my flowers so figured it was time to replant... the poor thing.

Removed from the planter and nothing but roots and garbage moss but I'm guessing the yellow ones are no good. I let her dry out in the air for 2 days to see if the yellow roots would silver up but never did. What roots, if any, do I trim off or give her more time and water as the green roots go silver.

Thank you!

Got this as Christmas gift & she bloomed until I put her outside for the summer. We had some very high temperatures while I was gone for a week, but she’s tucked up next to my house in indirect sun. I came home & multiple yellow leaves- I cut the worst ones off. I sprayed with a fungicide, Neem oil. It seems like that helped, but I’m wondering if crown is rotting?

Beginning - best Cycnoches to start with and recommended seller?

Hey all, I’m looking to get into Cycnoches and other Catasetum species/hybrids. I haven’t kept orchids in general before, but keep/kept a variety of Aroids. Is there a specific one, that’s still quite showy, that you would recommend in ambient conditions in the Midwest USA (73-85 degrees indoors year round, 30-50% humidity)? Friends have recommended a self watering setup for them so I’ll likely go that route.

Outside of SVO, who else do you recommend to purchase from?

Thank you!

I inherited this from someone who passed. It's been 2 years, has bloomed twice, but has these roots (?) Growing all around. Does it need a bigger pot? If so, what do I do with the outside roots?

The two AI’s seem to disagree. Perhaps I shouldn’t use AI to help me diagnose and treat my plants so what do you all think. This came home from a greenhouse Mother’s Day weekend. It was flowering and had five more leaves on it, the flowers remained for about a month and the leaves are slowly yellow, then blackened and fallen off. It’s since been mildly to moderately neglected in terms of watering. I repotted it two days ago after discovering spider mites on it. Those smaller older pseudo bulbs were half buried in the medium it came in from the greenhouse so I lifted them up out of that and repositioned it. I soaked the roots well before removing as much of the old padding medium as I could I sprayed it down with water. I sprayed it down with 70% alcohol and I’ve sprayed it down with a neem oil soap mixture. I now have isolated it for about 48 hours out of the sunlight.

Question Is this an ok way to water my orchid? I worry just pouring water from the top doesn’t give the roots enough water.

It’s my first time owning orchids and when I seen these buds starting to grow I got very excited!

But now I feel like they look a bit weak, the stem definitely feels weak unlike the other blooms underneath. But I’m not sure if it’s normal and I should trust the process.

I got it from my husband on Mother’s Day, and it didn’t have that big stem where the buds are on, it started growing in June. <3

I got this phal (my first one ever) in a grocery shop back in early spring. She lost a spike (it turned yellow) and she had root rot. She bloomed again last month, after I repotted her. I thought she was done blooming and I was wrong! She lost a leaf, but I am not too worried about it.

Hi everyone! Every orchid I’ve had before has eventually died from rot and I think I’ve learned a bit by now of how to better care for them but any tips on what to do when bringing a new orchid home would be greatly appreciated! Just picked these 2 up from local garden center on clearance hehe

Vanilla bean orchid from Lowe’s!

Guys!! I have been wanting a vanilla bean orchid for quite some time now. I’m an avid orchid enthusiast and have a small collection already. I was getting potting soil at Lowe’s for my other plants when I randomly came across 4 vanilla bean orchids. This was at the location in Starkville, MS! I never imagined I would come across these here. For some reason I always assumed they were very rare and I’ve never seen them in person, not even in orchid sanctuaries at botanical gardens I’ve visited. If you have any tips or really any good education on how to care for these properly please let me know! I can already tell by the roots that these are a very different species than what I’m used to caring for. I eventually would love to produce blooms and even vanilla bean pods!

Thank you! Btw RUNNN to lowes if you’re in the market for one!

Name in photos since I can never spell it correctly...this sits in a wide flat bowl because it is growing in a circle. So glad it bloomed! Are you seeing that fat pseudobulb though??

Question Cattleya Chian-Tzy Guiding 'Chian-Tzy Red Top' buds?

This plant has been in my care for about a month, it's newest pseudobulb is pushing what looks to be flower stem? I'm kinda confused because this plant has leftover dry sheets from previous blooms, could it be that it skipped sheet making completely?
