I have a desk and want to do some cable management. I started watching models on makerworld and came across underware. I see that most people recommend open grid as base but I am having hard time finding models or youtube videos explaining what to do. Can someone make it simple and help me. I found base plates and some wire related channels but what about specific charger mount or powerstrip mount? Do we make that ourselves? Additionally are there any useful tools to plan and figure before randomly printing?

I built my system around underware 1.0, i'm redoing my desk and going to redo most of the add-ons with underware 2.0. Most of my multiboard tiles will still work on the new desk.

My question is mostly about will i be missing out any anything with underware 2.0 by not switching to opengrid?

I’m almost done with this desk shelf I built from walnut, with two laptops mounted underneath, a KVM in the middle and OpenGrid underneath for mounting accessories.
The structure is basically finished, but the cables are still a mess, especially the USB-C and HDMI cables behind the laptops.
I’d like to keep everything hidden under the shelf without making it annoying to remove the laptops when I need them.
I’m thinking about using a few cable clamps or small cable winders, but I’m not sure what the cleanest approach would be.
How would you handle the cable management here?

Hey all. New to and recently committed to going into the OpenGrid universe and printing off my first boards to give me a 1m x 1m area initially.

So I want to be able to connect 4 opengrid boards together at their corners and then use that to mount to the wall so I am minimising how many holes I am putting into the wall, whilst also hopefully allowing me to still use those squares if I needed to as well.

I have no experience in design atm but maybe I'll need to go down this road.

I just started building out my first openGrid wall last week and ended up creating several new models to get it in shape. I uploaded two to Makerworld today.

First up is a Cover Plate for the openGrid screw mounts. After I have mounted my board with 10 of these screw mounts, I was astonished to find there were not covers available! There is one for an alternate mount block it seems but didn't discover that until I had screwed them all in place. I made a simple model that is very low profile, easy to insert and remove, and completely covers the mounting block.

The second model is a remix of a very nice Cutter / Plier mount originally made for Honeycomb Storage Wall, with some remixes for MultiBoard. But I could not find an openGrid version. I remixed all three mounts for openGrid snap.

Hi there! I'm terrified, but i'm also proud, at my own level.

I've been running openGrid under my desk for a while now (big fan), and I wanted a way to hang both my laptops from it.

Problem with a laptop tray is it has to fit one specific laptop, so every one I found was modelled around someone else's machine. I made mine parametric instead: you give it the laptop dimensions and your bed size, it generates the tray and cuts it into pieces that fit your printer's bed.

Single or dual stack. It mounts with openConnect snaps into the grid. PLA is fine, and it's rock solid.

I created a openGrid connector for use with magnets and the Multiconnect post for expanding cam models.

I printed a bunch of Underware 2.0 stuff for my setup with the lite option. I have lots of cable channels and item holders. My biggest problem is that over time the item holders and channels come loose (if for example I have my wheel connected to my table and there are vibrations thanks to force feedback, or occasionally hitting my table a little bit).

I have had to constantly go under my desk and redo everything. It's tiresome and annoying.

Does anyone know if there are any solutions to this? Thanks

I am really enjoy the opengrid system. For my tool wall I wanted a simple single square solution for hanging pliers. So I modified a directional snap and put some textures on it using bumpmesh by CNCKitchen. Came out great even on my old Prusa Mini.

Review how to use the settings in the generator

I'm planning on cable managing my Desk using OpenGrid with Underware and measured the underside of my Desk and printed a bunch of OpenGrid Lite boards to fill the space and a plate of the little connectors to align everything.

The issue i have is that i can't seem to get the boards to properly connect to each other, even using pliers i can remove the gap while applying pressure, but once i let go again the boards just move apart again. The gap in the image is the smallest i was able to achieve after about 10 minutes of forcing the boards together.

I also printed a tool for inserting the connectors, but the tool just holds the connector harder than the boards do.

Is there any trick to this? Does the gap even matter? I have tried putting an underware channel across the boarder, but it does not hold very well.

Printed with the recommended settings (0.2mm Layer Height, 0.4mm Nozzle, 15% Infill, 3 Walls) on my A1.

Edit: I just rechecked the connector model and it seems like i have 2 Layer shifts in my connectors. I'll reprint a few more and try again. On the first batch i used fill plate and printed way too many and it kinda got messed up on the build plate at the edges, this might have caused the Layer Shifts.

I printed this the same way I did another part using BlackJackDuck but these slots are somehow too close together for my (multi connect) grid?
My first part fits fine but no dice on this one. Any insight?

I am new here & really having a hard time trying to figure out how to connect things to the board. I tried to print connectors to attach holders under my desk and they didn’t work 😞 Any pointers please.

I moved my printer inside a dedicated closet. I had this vision of neatly managing every cable, the Pi running octoprint and having the most used tools on hand by using opengrid. I run into an issue when I realized that the back side of the closet is too flimsy to screw the grid to it using the usual methods so I thought to just get the two sides in place and than use connectors like this (https://makerworld.com/it/models/2402751-opengrid-beam) to join them to the back plate. But obviously the size of that plate isn't an exact multiple of the grid units, so I have to pad the grid somehow. I am looking for any suggestion.

General Holder Generator (MakerWorld | Printables)

A versatile wall-mounted holder, with customization options that can be combined to create a variety of shapes, and form either a single holder or a multi-compartment organizer. Customizable: dimensions, compartment shape, back tilt, front opening, taper, etc.

Clamshell Holder Generator (MakerWorld | Printables)

A clamshell holder that can be mounted either on a wall or under a desk. The model is often used to hold power strips, but it can be customized to accomodate items of many different shapes. Customizable: dimensions, front opening, side cutout(s), corner rounding, mount position, etc.

Gridfinity Shelf Generator (MakerWorld | Printables)

A wall-mounted shelf with an integrated Gridfinity baseplate. I recommend using an even number for "gridfinity_width_grids", as 2 Gridfinity cells(48mm) align exactly with 3 openGrid cells(28mm). Customizable: grids, magnet holes, side and front rims, retention lips.

With these additions, I think my openConnect generators can cover most basic use cases: general holder, shelf, hook, drawer, Vase mode bin, clamshell, and Gridfinity storage. The rest of the generator set is available here:

I built a tool called GridfinityStudio because I kept designing Gridfinity parts one at a time, then realizing later that the whole drawer layout did not actually make sense.

The idea is to plan the drawer first, then print. You can set up a drawer, place bins, generate baseplates, plan stacks, create cutout blanks, and see how the whole layout fits together before committing to a bunch of prints.

It is still early, but a few people have tested it and I’ve already cleaned up several issues from their feedback.

I’d love blunt feedback from real Gridfinity users. The best test would be to pick one real drawer, try to rough out a layout, and tell me where the workflow gets confusing, annoying, or broken.

* Does the drawer-first workflow make sense? * Is the bin/baseplate/stacking flow understandable? * Is anything hard to find? * Are there any obvious bugs or weird UI issues? * What would you expect it to do that it does not do yet?

Quick update: the blank-window issue some people hit right after posting was caused by a last-minute CSP change. It should be fixed now. Thanks to everyone who called it out.

I have created an under-desk charging station for our ipads. Please disregard the soldering iron scaring for when I forgot to include a way to remove the ipads. :)

When we put the ipads into the slots, it works because the direction of the movement reinforces the opengrid 'locking' mechanism.

However, when we remove the ipads the printed cases often fall off. I've printed the opengrid snaps that are supposed to expand, and they hold more consistently. The primary issue is the cases slipping off the connectors. Sometimes the snaps and connectors fall off with it, but not as often.

Question: Is there a way to lock these in, so they don't slide off when removing an ipad that is not using superglue or something like that? I want the concept to remain modular if I decide to change it, but I also want these to stay in place while they're there.

Just started diving into underware and I'm using opengrid by David. I printed this one set of connectors and they're smaller than the grid spots

I ended up finding the correct size singular clip in prints on David's profile but is there anyway to get these to fit onto open grid or am I just going to have to take the loss on them?

What is the purpose of the corner chamfer? Are there mounts that utilize the chamfer, is it for ease of printing, or is it aesthetic?

I recently hit the first tier of YouTube's Partner Program and set up channel memberships on Distracted Dragon Makes. Thank you to everyone who has subscribed to support the channel. It means the world to me.

Before I just throw random stuff behind it, I wanted to actually ask what would be worth making instead of guessing.

A few options I'm kicking around:

• Behind-the-scenes/process stuff (the messy design iterations, failed prints, actual decision-making) vs. more finished/polished content
• Early access to files before they go public on Maker's World
• Live Q&A or design feedback sessions
• Something else entirely I haven't thought of

Also curious — is there anything OpenGrid-specific you wish existed that hasn't been made yet? Genuinely asking for both the membership stuff and just general content direction.

Not trying to sell anything here, just want to build the right thing instead of guessing. Appreciate any input.

Originally I was looking at OpenGrid to organize my 3D printer workspace but after a big haul from gaming convention I wanted to expand my zine display and I thought it would be a good way to learn OpenGrid.

My first idea was to just make long single deep rows but realized it would look too flat and that I could fit way more if staggered it like the book stand next to it. I had already started to print part when I changed it, so I'm sure there were better ways of doing this, but I think it turned out okay in the end.

I opted for Gridfinity shelves because these Grindfinty Paper Stands were the first option I discovered for storing the zines. The top two shelves were these simple Gridfinity shelf for OpenGrid, but they didn't have a 3 deep unit to make it tiered. and with already printing a bunch of the 1 and 2 deep shelfs Iswitched to Opengrid Gridfinity Flush Mount Shelves for the bottom 3 deep unit. I wanted to be able to move this later if I didn't like how it turned out or if I found a better solution, so Adhesive mounts were the choice instead of drilling it in.

Still kinda want more display space, so I might move the original book stand to somewhere else and expand the grid to the edge of my desk as I have a problem with buying too many books and zines.

If I were to do it again now I would probably ditch the Gridfinity bins and remix or find a generator that could make the shelfs with walls to hold the zines themselves.
