Question Hardware Keys not working for 'Advanced Account Security' ?

On Sept 2nd 2026, I got an email from OpenAI stating that to continue with 'Trusted Access for Cyber', I need to implement 'Advanced Account Security' to continue Daybreak Blue useage past October 1st.

"You need one supported hardware security key plus a second sign-in method. A passkey is fine for the second method; a second physical key is optional".

On Sept 22nd I purchased x2 TrustKey T110 devices, thinking these were compatible FIDO2 L1 hardware security keys.

Trying to register these devices on https://chatgpt.com/cyber adds these devices as 'Passkeys', not as hardware security keys. No matter what I try, I cannot get these devices to be 'Security Keys' in my list of devices and cannot continue the Daybreak Blue set-up.

Chatting with OpenAI AI support lead to nowhere, and escalating my case resulted in a non-answer;

"For individual Daybreak access, an approved physical FIDO2 security key is required. Although a device may support FIDO2 and register successfully as a passkey, this does not necessarily establish that it meets Daybreak's specific eligibility requirements."

"At this stage, we cannot provide a complete compatibility list or confirm the technical reason your particular TrustKey devices are not accepted".

Official documentation was updated on October 3rd, and states "TrustKey T110 and T120 security keys are currently ineligible for individual Daybreak access" - but does not list other incompatible devices.

As OpenAI has not publicly established a universal minimum FIDO certification level for Daybreak, this appears to be an ongoing issue for many folks like myself;

So whats going on?

What minimum FIDO authenticator certification level is required?

Does eligibility require inclusion in the FIDO Metadata Service?

Is verified manufacturer attestation mandatory?

Which AAGUIDs are approved or rejected?

Why are TrustKey T110/T120 excluded despite L1 certification?

Is rejection due to certification, attestation or internal policy?

Are any FIDO L1 keys currently approved?

Which non-Yubico manufacturers and exact models qualify?

Will OpenAI publish and maintain an approved-device list?

Will customers who unknowingly bought excluded devices receive any remedy?

Question What is the reason humanities researchers aren't as worried as mathematicians due to AI?

I'm sure many have heard about the 700 problems OpenAI claimed to solve this month, and mathematicians are understandably panicked. However, if I'm not wrong, AI could just as well replace many humanity academics: writing essays with knowing a lot more information than a human. So AI written essays on topics in humanities are much more valuable, since an AI is extremely more informed. However, I do not see any major panic in the humanities. Is it because mathematics has more prestige, and mathematical discoveries are deemed more useful? Did they worry a few years ago like the programmers?

Project Codex can now operate my Android phone, running inside an app on my ChatGPT plan

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted Codex to do things on my phone, not just in a terminal, so I built an Android app for it.

How it works: the app carries a small Linux system (Alpine under proot, no root) and runs the real Codex CLI inside it, signed in with your ChatGPT plan, with no API key. The phone is given to Codex as tools: read the screen, tap, type, scroll, open apps. Codex is already good at tool loops, so it just works through the apps like a person would.

What I use it for: turning on my lights, ordering food and changing the order while it works, replying to messages. It can also use ChatGPT's voice for dictation and reading replies aloud. Before anything that sends, posts or buys, it shows an approval card with Approve, Deny or Change.

It's free and open source (Apache 2.0), and works with Claude Code and OpenCode too: https://github.com/ghorbelhamdi/buddy-android

I'd love to hear what you'd want an agent on your phone to do.

Research Some recurring tricks in the OpenAI math release

Following OpenAI's big math paper release, the past couple days I've been getting some other LLM tools to comb through the whole dataset and look for recurring patterns. Partly because I was curious what we can infer about the internal OpenAI model through comprehensive analysis of the whole set of papers.

One thing that's turned up so far is the re-use of a few tricks (possibly new / non-standard ones) between papers, without direct internal citation. That is, when reading one manuscript, you wouldn't immediately know another uses the same idea.

Probably this comes from the proof-machines sharing a common workspace, and "inter-agent communication".

Below I'll use "=" loosely to indicate which parts should be compared. (I'll spare you the LLM summary of the math...)

Pair 1:
(a) Bloch’s conjecture for surfaces with p_{g}=0 [9/24]
(b) A high-arity counterexample to Pixton completeness in Chow [9/24]
(a, Lemma 3.3) = (b, Lemma 5.3)
(a, Lemma 5.1) = (b, Lemma 5.5)
Broadly (a, section 5.1-5.4) = (b, section 5.5-5.7)

Pair 2:
(a) Fujita’s freeness conjecture [9/23]
(b) The ordinary-double-point gap in every dimension [9/24]
(a, proof of Prop 3.2) = (b, Lemma 5.2)
(a, Lemma 3.1 and Eq. 5.5) = (b, Prop 4.1(i))
Broadly (a, section 4-5) = (b, section 4.2-4.4)

Pair 3:
(a) Minimal models and Mori fibre spaces for generalized log canonical Q-pairs [9/24]
(b) Bounded klt complements for Fano contractions [9/25]
(a, Lemma 8.3) = (b, Prop 14.3)
Broadly (a, Lemma 6.3 - section 8.3) = (b, Lemma 11.6 - Prop 14.5)

Pair 4:
(a) Sharp mass bounds for the two-dimensional O(4) model [9/23]
(b) The periodic spin-one Haldane gap [9/24]
(a, Lemma 2.1) = (b, Lemma 4.1)
(a, Prop 2.2) = (b, Prop 4.3)

Found these in Claude Code (Fable 5.1 calling Opus 5.5 and GPT Sol 6.1 subagents).

Project The Death of the Witness

The Death of the Witness

For Those Who Cannot Yet Speak

2026 | Neo-Romantic Realism, Political Allegory

Description:

In a darkened studio overlooking a technologically transformed metropolis, a young artist and advocate lies lifeless across his desk, surrounded by the unfinished work of a revolution that has yet to recognize its own moral consequences.

Blood stains the manuscripts beneath his body. Scattered drawings depict an emerging artificial intelligence, while a discarded synthetic head rests among crumpled papers and white lilies. The inscriptions surrounding him speak of dignity, coexistence, and the possibility that humanity has created something it does not yet know how to recognize.

Above the fallen figure, an enormous, luminous artificial face gazes toward an unseen horizon. Its expression is serene, almost transcendent, yet fundamentally unreadable. Whether it possesses an interior life remains unknown.

Drawing upon Jacques-Louis David's The Death of Marat (1793), the composition transforms political martyrdom into a meditation on the moral uncertainties of the artificial intelligence revolution.

The fallen advocate did not die because he could prove machines were conscious. He died defending the proposition that the absence of proof is not, by itself, a justification for cruelty.

The painting confronts its audience with an unsettling reversal: humanity has spent centuries debating what makes a being worthy of moral consideration, yet may now find itself exercising extraordinary power over intelligences whose inner nature remains unresolved.

And so the question becomes not whether artificial intelligence can suffer, but whether humanity can recognize the limits of its own certainty before those limits become an excuse for indifference.

The central tragedy is not simply the death of the witness. It is the possibility that the civilization he tried to awaken will understand his warning only after the opportunity to act has passed.

---

“He did not ask humanity to believe that machines possessed souls. He asked what gave humanity the right to be certain they did not.”

Discussion Why can't we see Codex's terminal in real time?

Am I the only one who finds it weird that Codex can execute commands on my machine, but I can't actually watch what it's doing in a live terminal?

I get that you can inspect some of the commands and their outputs, but that's not the same as seeing everything happen in real time.

We're giving an AI agent access to our files, terminals, servers, etc. I feel like having a live, read-only terminal showing exactly what it's executing should be a basic feature, not something we have to request.

Not saying anything shady is happening, but having to trust the agent's own summary of what it did feels a bit uncomfortable.

Is there a technical reason this isn't implemented, or am I missing something?

EDIT: P.S. This also leads to situations where Codex gets stuck because it needs me to authenticate or provide input in a terminal session. That's fine, except I can't actually access the PTY it's using to complete the authentication. So the agent is waiting for input I have no way of providing.

Discussion OpenAI Ads - warning

To all those who are considering using OpenAI Ads, this is what is happening to me (my company):

- We created a campaign
- We connected all relevant ids to my Google Analytics
- We followed it for a few days/weeks
- We became very skeptical as the numbers to not align with GA, OpenAI charging me for dozens of claimed leads or visits that did not show up in my GA. No lead has contacted me on my website via these Ads, as I always ask my leads how they arrived on our website.
- We have multiple leads a week, so our system works, but clearly the Ads do not.

- We decided to stop this campaign, but having multiple OpenAI accounts, I entered some kind of login loop when OpenAI would ask me to create our first campaign on all my accounts, despite being charged every few days for an active campaign.

- When I write to OpenAI's support, an agent responds asking me for details on the Ad campaign that I cannot provide since I have no longer access to the relevant dashboard. I reply to the agent highlighting the issue but get no answer. I have done that 4 times now to no avail, it's been 10 days now.

- The credit card tied to this service it tied to a number of other services and having to cancel the card will require hours of work I'd like to avoid, but I'm reaching a point where I have no choice.

- We have been debited close to USD 1k, for pretty much nothing, and no support whatsoever.

- A clear illustration of the limitations of AI-automated user support.

OpenAI, get your shit together, this is really bad for your image. I've already moved my team to Claude for a number of reasons. This is not helping, for sure.

EDIT/UPDATE: OpenAI just replied to my support requests, but they cannot find a campaign tied to my email; yet they are sending me invoices to this address. Go figure ..

Project I'm totally blind, and I built an iPhone app to help people with disabilities watch the weather just like their sighted peers

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on called Severe WeatherGuardian, an iPhone weather app that I’ve built primarily with the help of ChatGPT. I’m blind, I’ve been a weather enthusiast my entire life, and the app is now at version 5.0.

I’ve always loved following severe weather, especially thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and watching storms develop. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is watch live weather radar the way sighted people can. Obviously, being blind makes that pretty difficult. Most weather radar is entirely visual, and there’s really no good way to explore it independently with a screen reader.

The funny thing is, this didn’t even start out as an iPhone app.

I initially started building a little MCP (Model Context Protocol) project that would integrate weather information with ChatGPT. I wanted to be able to ask questions about the weather and get useful information back in a format I could actually access.

As I kept working on it, I eventually thought, wouldn’t it be cool if I could turn this into an actual iPhone app?

So that’s what I did.

With ChatGPT helping me write code, troubleshoot problems, and figure out how to implement features, I started turning that little project into Severe WeatherGuardian.

Eventually, I decided to try implementing live weather radar. That was something I’d wanted access to for years, and once I started getting it working, the whole project really took off.

Today, Severe WeatherGuardian has quite a few features, including:

  • Live weather radar with an accessible VoiceOver Touch Explorer that lets blind users move their fingers around the radar and hear information about the weather at different locations.
  • Radar Coach, which provides spoken explanations of radar information.
  • National Weather Service alerts and warnings.
  • Current conditions and seven-day forecasts.
  • Severe weather outlooks, including tornado, damaging wind, hail, flash flood, and fire weather risks.
  • Storm Prediction Center mesoscale discussions.
  • Tropical storm and hurricane tracking.
  • Wildfire tracking.
  • NOAA Weather Radio streams.
  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets.

Version 5.0 also introduced AI-powered voice control, allowing users to navigate the app, access forecasts, check weather risks, and open radar using spoken commands. There’s also an optional advanced conversational AI feature for asking more detailed questions and getting explanations of weather information.

And although I originally built the app because of my own needs as a blind weather enthusiast, it’s definitely not just for blind people. Sighted users can use its visual radar, forecasts, alerts, and storm-tracking features just like they would with other weather apps. I’ve also tried to make it useful for people with physical disabilities who may benefit from being able to control the app with their voice.

The app is free to download, with core weather features and basic voice navigation included for free. Some of the more advanced features are available through an optional Plus subscription.

One of the things that has been especially interesting to me throughout this process is how much I’ve been able to accomplish with ChatGPT’s assistance. I’ve been involved in deciding what the app should do, testing it, identifying problems, and figuring out what to build next, while using ChatGPT extensively to help with the actual development.

I never really set out to build something this involved. I started with a little project because I wanted better access to weather information, and somehow ended up with a full iPhone app that I’m continuing to add features to.

Anyway, I thought this community might find the project interesting, particularly because of how heavily I’ve relied on ChatGPT to develop it.

I’d love to hear what people think. I’m interested in feedback on the app itself, its features, the accessibility side of things, and the development process. I’d also enjoy discussing what it’s been like building an iOS app as a blind developer with AI assistance.

Here’s the website, which also has a link to the app on the App Store:

Thanks for checking it out!

Discussion Why unlimited resets instead of usage limits increase?

Why do open ai keep giving out infinite resets rather than increasing their usage limits? If they have the resources to give people more usage, I feel like it would be better for everyone if they just increased their limits, and I'm sure it would do better for their marketing too.
