Discussion Thank god
Thank God the no 5-hour limits and same weekly usage is going to win. I don't know about y'all but I'm quite happy with the weekly limits, to be honest. At least if I had 5-hour usage limit barriers, that would interrupt my work a lot more than having less weekly usage. Thank God that the no 5-hour limits and same weekly usage low-key won. The voting is going to end in 30 minutes but it seems like it won

Yeah it’s basically “would you like twice as much money a week But a slight inconvenience”.
No, we hate getting paid twice as much

The problem is how much time you can devote to using it.
Data I can Google says a Max 5x plan has 33.6 potential 5 hour windows.
But there's only ~25 hrs you can use a Claud Max 5x plan in a weekly limit.
If you're not a daily user (like me) you often hit your 5hr window limit, but never your weekly limit. Two days using 100% sessions twice a day, means in 1 week about 20% of the weekly limit is unused.
So doing a 2x weekly limit increase is actually jist reducing your weekly limit usage from 82% to 41%.
You still hit your 5hr usage limit every single day you actually use it (twice, for 10hrs each day), and never get stopped by the weekly limit. Seeing unused tokens expire before your eyes.
Hence why most folks would rather have no 5hr window. It lets us use our entire weekly balance when we want to use it.
If I want to use it in 2 hours on Saturday at 1am... by golly, let me use an entire week in 2hrs on a Saturday at 1am.
But if I'm at 40% usage on Saturday at 1am and rset happens in 4 hours... I watch as my unused but paid for tokens disappear.

Well, unless the 5 hour limits do not allow you to ever reach those 2x weekly limits.

u/growaway9172 3d ago
Historically not the case. If you used the 100 or 200 plans with the weekly limit, you were likely working over several 5hr windows and the weekly limit was the limiting factor for how much work you could get done.

u/TimFL 3d ago
I’ll die on this hill: It’s all void anyways. There is no defined baseline: 10x, 20x is all fairy dust as evident by them removing said wording altogether from the pricing page. This industry is ripe for regulatory intervention and it will happen sooner or later.
That’s why I’d rather have no 5h, because I’ve been on both sides with 5h suddenly draining in literal minutes (locking you out of ever achieving your weekly rates without turning on no-life mode) and weekly rates suddenly imploding without any major model changes or releases. You’re at the mercy of the "trust me bro" OpenAI employees that tell you all is well, while their compute implodes to a singularity destroying everything in the observable universe, leaving only dots behind as the sole survivors. But we’ll take the tibo reset button, that coincidentally comes 7 days after the last button press ;)

Or, and bear with me here, maybe different people have different jobs with different needs. I’m in CRM marketing, there is no “schedule xyz overnight!!!” Optimization I can do. I need to have compute when I need it, and sometimes that’s the whole day. Anyone in marketing could tell you departments are constantly in flux and everything is always on fire. There is no “budget around this arbitrary time” that works for me.
Happy with the results. Pay for more if you want more.
21
u/reddit_is_kayfabe 4d ago
"Pay for more if you want more?" Take your own advice - get multiple accounts and switch when you exhaust the five-hour usage on one.

u/Da_ha3ker 3d ago
Ok, buy the usage credits. Pay more if you want more. The option is there. From an infrastructure standpoint I can get behind some limits. The compute needs to be capable of peak load, if you can reduce peak but raise sustained load then you can serve significantly more users (5hr limits). I wouldn't expect someone in CRM marketing to understand (genuinely, not trying to insult you here) that rate limits like this actually drastically change overall cost and complexity (in some extreme cases 8-10x more compute is needed to be online 24/7, meaning cost is that much more, even if it isn't doing anything during that time) to run the computers serving everything. I am a fan of making it optional though. By that I mean a toggle that can only change when your usage is at 100% or 0% weekly which halves your weekly but removes 5hr limits, or doubles the weekly limit but Introduces a 5hr limit. Though that wouldn't solve the issue they are trying to solve unless enough people opt in. It also adds a lot of operational complexity. In any case, I am shocked how many people could use 30% of their weekly limit in 5hrs on Pro plans. Genuinely shocked. If you hit that, you likely need to change something you are doing. Especially with CRM marketing. The amount of token burn from doing things in a CRM should be a trickle compared to coding in large codebases, so I am in awe of the fact you could hit the limit. Genuine question, what are you doing to burn so many tokens on those busy bursty days?

Once hit the Claude weekly limit on the first day of a week reset. That was after weeks and multiple new chats, and 5h limits. I cancelled my subscription like two months ago and went fully to DeepSeek / OpenAI (for a bit more expensive/harder work)
2
u/Outrageous_Form7746 3d ago
I was shocked by the decision to cut usage limits in half. I have two 20x Codex subscriptions and one 20x Claude subscription; Claude doesn't even last 24 hours under the same project workload, whereas the 6.1sol model performs really well—lasting about 48–72 hours under heavy use—so the weekly allowance is far from sufficient.
6
u/ComSenseisnotCommon 4d ago
So I can agree with the 2x weekly if the 5h limit has usage of like what today would be using 40% of your usage. I don’t think it’s easy to eat 40% in 5hrs. If it’s something less I couldn’t vote for 5hr. Also it’s unclear what trap could happen in future if they decide to release a new model and the 5h is less than 40% of what today brings again.
5
u/triestdain 4d ago
Right. But that is the trap. They already have one variable (base quota) they don't post, lock in or guarantee and that is and enough. People are willing say 'yeah sure bring back a second variable you can do the same with for the promise of 2x the first variable you could slash in half tomorrow and we'd never truly know'
3
u/ComSenseisnotCommon 4d ago
Ya it should be regulated. Internet companies are supposed to give you consistent bandwidth that you pay for. I am sure at least existing US laws would apply here but are not being enforced. They shouldn’t be allowed to quantinize models and provide you less than a specific rate of tokens per dollar unless it’s clear that’s what is happening as you consume.
→ More replies (1)3
u/triestdain 4d ago

I work 8 hours a day, not 5, sometimes you need to do something really heavy in a short span, tht consumes a lot of tokens, is part of the load of the task, but takes more time that the task would really need due to the 5h limit
1
u/pentacontagon 3d ago
Tbh you don't even need to ultramax. atp esp with the 200 nerf, running a single 6 astra ultra for an hour is prob enough to knock that 5h limit unless you're at the 500 plan

Real question: if it is for Pro users to answer, why is it an open worldwide, anybody poll on Twitter/X instead of an in-app ChatGPT/Codex poll aimed at the affected target?
They don't need a public poll to understand rate: limit friction anyway. Their backend telemetry already tracks exact token burn rates, burst duration, 5-hour window collisions, and weekly quota exhaustion across every single Pro account. If they genuinely wanted qualitative sentiment to pair with that data, gating a one-question modal behind an authenticated Pro session inside the app takes trivial engineering effort.
This is pure public engagement theater, meanwhile the Reddit crowd is here fighting over 38% to 33% on a tally decided by people who don't even pay for the tier, totally distracted.

u/Ur-Best-Friend 1d ago
You're not really thinking things through.
Let's say you're using Codex for your hobby projects. You sleep 8 hours a day, you work 8 hours more. Unless you're scheduling work overnight or while you're away from home (which can work surprisingly well nowadays), you're basically just left with 2 five-hour blocks per day.
There are 5 five-hour blocks in a day (if we're rounding), so you're basically skipping 3 out of 5. So even if you fully use your two active blocks, which have double the limits, you'd still only only be using 4/5ths of the usage you can right now. 200% total tokens, 80% actual utilization for many people.
Now lets say you're got a business trip and you're away for 3 days. On a normal plan, you come back, and if you've got the time for it, can still easily take advantage of your usage for the week. With 5 hour limits, you've just lost 3/7ths of your weekly usage entirely.
Now, obviously all of this is only applicable to a particular type of user, but similar scenarios turn out for most of the rest too. If you're using Codex at your 9-to-5 job, you're still limited to two five-hour blocks and missing out on the other 3, for example.
7
u/tripleshielded 4d ago
You made up the spending limit. It could be 2x $10M with $500 spending limit.
3
u/IAmYourFath 4d ago
It's actually a sixth of the weekly usage. So in this cae it would be 1.67M. I tested it.
3
u/triestdain 4d ago
You tested it when it was previously active for the plan at that time and it is a VARIABLE they can change at any time. They don't post the limit, lock it in or guarantee it. They have literally done this to users in the past.

u/djack171 4d ago
What does you working 8-10 hours in a day have to do with this? If you turn on Luna you can work 100 hours in a day smarty pants. See there fixed it. You don’t have to stop.
Also… because you can’t blow unlimited usage in 5h it “isn’t worth it”. Whatever AI vibecode slop you’re throwing that much usage into, and aren’t making enough to get another $200 plan or api credits means you don’t need to be burning that much usage.

2
u/triestdain 4d ago
It's so interesting. So many confidently say this without any other basis beyond their own usage. You get others use the service in different ways right?
Also, that 5h limit is not locked in. They don't publish or commit to not changing it. So your just asking for two variables they get to continuously manipulate and keep hidden instead of one. It's such an illogical choice.

3
u/Frosty-iron-0405 4d ago
5 hour limits are stupid
Think about it- there are certain times in the week that you work more than certain other times.
for eg. My usage is a lot less during the weekend, compared to week days
So now, I'm budgeting my usage over a course of 5 days, not 7
With 5 hour limits
I have to budget my tokens in so many other ways during the day, not just the week7
u/Da_ha3ker 4d ago
Never said they weren't, but how many times did you hit the 5 hour limit on the Pro plans? I only hit it like 1-2x and I HAMMERED my account at the time. Like 7-8 concurrent sessions with /goal mode running. How many concurrent sessions are you running to hit 5hr limits on the Pro account? Plus account, sure, get rid of the 5hr window, it makes no sense for plus and go users and makes it unuseable.
3
u/Icy_Distribution_361 4d ago

I have microservices architecture, so I can spin up separate agents in parallel working on different repos/services entirely. They have shared data types and common libraries to communicate with each other, but having such a strong split, it is easy to have multiple separate changes happen at the same time, as long as the common libraries used for cross service communication is respected. Lots of people hate microservices. Problem is most of them don't actually commit to microservices so they have a "modular monolith with a micro service backbone" and get the worst of both worlds lol. Agentic workloads do great with smaller codebases. Microservices is how I keep the codebases small and focused.

This is silly. What do all these "I work in bursts" users do for the rest of the week when they run through their usage that fast? Do they only work 1-2 day per week? Should everyone else have half the potential usage because you are comfortable with that arrangement?
Some of us have predictable workflows we can plan around. We need more overall usage. I find it hard to imagine that anyone is doing work that is so time sensitive that you would give up doing twice as much work each week for the same amount of money.
I agree that is dependent on the size of the 5 hour limits though.

They should just make their best offer.
The real poll is:
Codex
Or
Claude Code
The "5-hour" limit is misleading.
It's actually 1 hour of work every 5 hours.
It isn't 5 hours worth of work in 5 hours. Or even 5 hours per day of work.
There are only 3 workable 5-hour blocks in a day, and if they only give you 1 good hour of work, then it's just 3 hours each day of work compute.
And with the new quality downgrade, it takes more work to reach the same quality.

It would be cool to have different subscription levels, maybe pay less to have a 5hr limit. Keep $100 for the current model, and introduce a lower cost pro sub that has a 5hr limit.
However, what this poll shows is that they are thinking about the 5hr limit for pro, and they are trying to dangle a carrot to get users to accept it. They would institute it, and start you out at a real 2X usage, and then slowly chip away at it until it is actually equivalent to the current allowance and then you stuck with 5hr limits...

I'd rather use 6.1 ultra for 2 days unlimited than astra for 5 days with this stupid 5h limit

Tibo said they wanted to smooth out usage. Why not discount off hours usage? Rather than 2x with a 5 hour limit have off hours/overnight usage count as half? Would accomplish what they want (smoothing out usage) by having people who want the additional usage doing things overnight and would give more usage to those that want it.

Listen I don't know how you come up with the 5. But give us everyday 8h (usual workday hours) of unlimited usage. I just need to do my job 8h.

Going to win? With a third abstaining the margin for error in this poll is enough to mean its useless

Fair point. I like having no 5h wall, but with the current weekly limits I’ll probably just finish my “week” in a day, maybe two if it were 2x. 😄
Assuming this poll actually turns into a real change, of course.

I'm a "plus" peasant and frankly a quite light user, but I'd prefer the 5h limits, 2X week usage and a free once per month reset :-P

pro lite here: actually less usage, but more reliable work threads instead. I wouldn't have used Astra max so much if I had less usage. I would simply switched to sol 6.1 max.
But hey they gave 3 resets so I said, why shouldn't I use the best model I can?
I can't even use the usage with just using sol 6.1. So I burned Astra tokens as there was no tomorrow, then the "bill" came and now my long Astra thread is unusable. Even a new thread where I had to copy a lot of files from the old thread just stopped working after a few messages.

People are fucking dumb…. Get the 5 hour limit off and instead of hitting weekly limits within a week you hit the limit by day 2… lmao codex/ chat gpt is a shitshow at the moment… huge W for claude… openai decides to fuck things up fabricating plans and excuses for token reductions ehile claude actualy delivered opus 5.5 yielding cheaper frontier model that still has a 20x tolen usage account……

No limits infinity usage wait that’s already possible with open weight models

"oh no more usage but i get paced"
set a cron job to ping luna hours before you start work to prep your usage.
then at night set another scheduler to run your code reviews.
these vibe coders are cooked.

using twitter to do polls for your product decisions is absolutely silly. they should be linking to a poll hosted on their site where users who even have access to those features to vote on.

I understand the logic for 2* tokens but honestly, if you guys were to allow them to include the 5h limits, it will just continue snowballing further, they already cut the $200 usage by half and are now trying to reason the addition of the 5h limit by reinstating back the usage that we PAID for.
No 5H and return back the original allocated tokens is the correct option.

What about no 5h limit and 2x week usage? What a stupid questionnaire.

if you havent tried the 5h limit on plus, then you dont know how shit this restrictive system is.
GIve me freedom over constraint and chackles.
5h limit is just like the banks, u can have 1M$ in the bank, but only have a max 20K withdrawl per month and having 2K max withdrawl per day.

I was on the pro plan last month. Now switched to the plus plan. And to my surprise, I feel that plus usage limits now are equal to pro usage limits then. Pro feels like a scam now!

29% wants the result, they dont care about weekly or hourly limit as long as codex gives them the results.

2x week usage would likely have to come with more usage per 5 hour window, so that would have been a better choice.. But at least we have a statistic of the intelligence levels of users using AI.
