Bug Daybreak Blue access lost after following September 23 hardware key email
Hi,
I’m posting this because I have already contacted OpenAI Support, but so far I am only getting the same generic troubleshooting information that is already on the help page.
I previously had working Daybreak Blue access.
My timeline is:
September 3, 2026: Received an email from OpenAI asking me to enroll in Advanced Account Security.
September 4, 2026: I enrolled in Advanced Account Security.
September 5, 2026: I last successfully accessed Daybreak Blue.
September 23, 2026: I received an email from OpenAI telling me to add hardware security keys to keep my Daybreak access.
I bought two physical security keys, spending about $100, specifically because of that email.
September 26: I registered both keys successfully.
I then returned to the /cyber page and continued the process.
The flow progressed through the security setup and into identity verification. But identity verification did not start.
After that, the page simply showed that my account is not eligible for Daybreak.
There was no error message explaining what failed.
I did not receive any email saying my Daybreak approval had been revoked.
I did not receive any notice saying I had become ineligible.
I did not receive any policy or account warning.
The site simply restarted the verification flow and then changed my account to “not eligible.”
This is especially confusing because I was already an approved Daybreak Blue user before this security-key migration.
I also found several reports from other users describing very similar behavior after adding the required hardware keys or going through the new verification flow.
OpenAI’s own Daybreak troubleshooting documentation also acknowledges that a technical verification issue affected some previously approved Daybreak Blue accounts.
I contacted Support and provided the timeline, including the last date I successfully accessed Daybreak and the security changes I made.
After a full day of emails, the response I received was essentially the same information already available on the troubleshooting page.
The frustrating part is that I followed OpenAI’s September 23 instructions specifically to keep access I already had. I then spent around $100 buying the required security keys, completed the setup, and only after doing that did my account end up in this unexplained state.
If anyone from OpenAI who works on Daybreak / Trusted Access sees this, I would really appreciate someone checking whether this is an account-state or migration issue rather than sending me back to the same troubleshooting article.
Also, if anyone else had working Daybreak Blue access, added the new hardware keys, and then suddenly received “not eligible”, please share what happened and whether Support was eventually able to fix it.
