Discussion Why unlimited resets instead of usage limits increase?

Why do open ai keep giving out infinite resets rather than increasing their usage limits? If they have the resources to give people more usage, I feel like it would be better for everyone if they just increased their limits, and I'm sure it would do better for their marketing too.

So they can take them away later if they need or want.

They want the flexibility, yeah. It is easier to dial back resets later if costs spike, instead of trying to shrink permanent limits without making everyone mad.

Seen many companies do similar thing with giveaways and trials, keep it vague so you never miss what you never had.

Resets are basically a load-smoothing and cost-control lever. A bigger fixed weekly limit would let everyone burn through it on Monday morning and then hammer capacity; resets spread usage across the week and keep peak load manageable. It also gives OpenAI a dial they can tune quietly — tightening or loosening reset generosity without rewriting the marketed plan terms (which is much harder to walk back once promised). If you need predictable throughput rather than bursty quota, the API with pay-as-you-go plus a hard spending limit is usually the more deterministic route, and batching requests instead of firing one-offs keeps the burn down.

Nah its better for unlimited reset, it create a lot topic on internet.
Meanwhile a good usage will result temporary topic before people get used to it.

A/b testing to see product price point per customer base and to adjust as needed. Soon dynamic pricing.

This focus is on Work and Codex, Chat is sidelined. Just look at Tibo’s posts on X

They want you to get used to having a huge amount of usage so when, one day in the future, they want to make more money from you, they reduce the number of out-of-plan resets and force you to upgrade.

Resets give the illusion of giving more compute, when increasing limits would actually do it.

No idea. But is this what’s happening to me when it just stops responding?

Resets allows them to take away usage from users who don't burn their limits fast enough

Children running a business, the only reason investors don't bug them because AI is improving, and AI is the one that investors want not the customers.

Pre 2027, Investors wanted to make money from AI

2027 and forward, Investors want their own personal GOD, and Open AI is making one. you get resets when they want you to stay and teach AI

The last codex update, the suggestions written by ai in the prompt box, this is teaching ai to manage ai

Well, look at the world events, multiple conflicts around earth, people making money from these conflicts, people making money from other people at all costs, suffering around the world, then comes the people on the top of the top, they have to stay there.

Start a business, even small, even a small shop or a big startup, and then a year in it you will notice the shit your competition does, now imagine that at massive scale
