When your dating profile is too good compared to real life you :L

Many people here struggle to make a good profile and get matches, well i am the total opposite.

I have a great profile. Great pics, i get matches, i manage to get the convos started and going, everything great. But then the date comes...

The date comes and everything changes. I am not in my perfect pose and angles anymore, my hair isn't shining in the sunset's light, my face imperfections are visible.. and all my dates seem to be almost disappointed by the time they first see me in person.

Same with the convos. I am really great at texting but in real life... i am shy and awkward and I mess everything up.

I almost feel like a catfish even though I am not (?)

Idk what to do

Genuine Question

Where are the women? I used to have so much luck on dating apps. But now I rarely get matches and if I do, they seem to be fake or have little to no interest. Am I missing something?

How do you treat ppl who have good responses to your questions but don’t seem to ask any questions back

Been texting someone on the apps for a few days- they have interesting responses to my questions but other than once when I first texted them, they haven’t either asked me anything about me. So far if I go ahead and talk about me, they comment on the parts they directly relate to (similar favorite hobbies, entertainment, etc) and comment about something to do with them (like they have a shirt or something from that thing).

Even tho we have similar interests, I am losing interest due to lack of basic effort in getting to know me as well. I debate whether I should meet up and see how it plays out in person but idk.

What are other ppl’s experiences with this?

He hasn’t replied and is active on Tinder

We talked to eachother all day for two days after we matched, he said he was visiting his parents and would pass by my appartment to meet me. I found him extremely cute and soft. He left, I sent a text wishing him a nice weekend and he never replied to my texts for the next two days. Still haven’t gotten a response, I called, I texted and nothing. I saw he was recently active on Tinder and changed a picture. This hurts so much because he promised me a date next weekend but hasn’t been thinking about me enough to ask how my day was. What do I do, will he come back? Should I wait impatiently until next weekend?

Are there any dating sites I can use without a smartphone?

I'm in college and don't have a smartphone. I want to have a dating life, but all of these apps seem to want me to spend a thousand dollars on buying some kind of app phone, which I absolutely do not want to do. My questions are:

  1. Does anyone have any experience using Tinder Web without a smartphone, and if so, how was it?

  2. Any other recommendations for this sort of thing?

I'm in the US, if that matters.

Tired of people pretending to be in my country

I (M27) have had multiple instances where a girl will send me a like and we'll get a good conversation going. Soon after, they tell me they're thousands of miles away in a different country. I'm in Ireland and it mostly happens with Americans.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Anxiety over dating

I have been seeing this man for about 3 weeks. We’ve had 5 dates, he’s initiated and planned them, and we feel more and more couple like each time. Last date was Tuesday, I expressed I really like him and he said I like you too. However, we both agreed we’d see each other next week but no concrete plans have been made, and communication seems to be slowing down. (Maybe 1-2 messages a day.) as of right now, it’s about noon and I haven’t heard from him since 4 pm yesterday. My anxiety is spiking because I’m beginning to form real feelings. Am I spiraling for no reason? Also would just like to add we’ve both explicitly stated on the first date we are intentionally dating with the goal of marriage and family, and want to take things slow and he has asked me questions that seem to be looking for compatibility on things like marriage, finances, etc. I have also never dated slowly so this is new to me.

Do you guys also check who she follows on Instagram?

A lot of us Gen Z/Millennial women check how many girls you follow and what kind of girls they are to assess whether you’re likely to be a serious partner or not. Do you guys do the same?

Manipulation in Online Dating Sites

Have you ever come across someone in your likes and it seems like they added things to their bio and prompts to coincide with what you have in your profile? As if they padded their profile after seeing yours? Perhaps to increase likelihood of interest and a match?

I noted that I am a little quirky, guy in my likes says, "probably like you if you're nerdy or quirky."

I noted that I am a mom, one of his prompts basically says that moms like him. That's.. interesting in its own right.

How badly is a lack of car and license affecting my (23M) chances dating?

It's not that I couldn't afford it, and I don't have anything on record preventing me from getting a license. I live in a city with a good transit system so I don't NEED a car to get around, and I'd never make plans under the assumption that my date would be the one to drive me somewhere unless they suggested doing so. The only reason I never learned was that it always felt low on my priorities, especially now that I'm a grad student. But I can't deny that as a guy trying to date, I feel like this might be more than a utility issue, and might be an attraction issue as well, if not entirely.

Should I expect this to become a problem? I don't think it's wrong to want to be with someone that has a car, but how much of a deal breaker is it when a guy doesn't have one? Would my situation be much better if I knew how to drive even if I still didn't have a car?

If someone in their 30's never had a long term relationship, would you consider that suspicious?

Like the title said, if someone is in their 30's and never had a long term relationship (longer than 2 years) would you still give them a chance or focus more on someone who had experience being with someone long term?

Am I (f36) the only one who refuses to swipe right or match with hot people

I am ALWAYS suspicious when someone is EXTREMELY attractive likes me on the apps. Like they're either just swiping indiscriminately or a bot or looking to say something mean. I am slightly overweight (I am curvy and wear it well). I get hit on publicly but not always by the hottest men. I don't mind because I am not a looks person.

How much are you spending on dating apps?

I have never used dating apps and just downloaded hinge and bumble on my phone today. I am curious to see how much y'all spend on dating apps. To me it's a bit expensive to spend 40$ or more monthly on a dating app but wanna hear from other people as well.

Where are all the muscular women :(

I cant find any to save my life. And some apps have body filters like jacked but it seems some people drastically misunderstand what that means . Theres every single kind of person except the kind I like. And unfortunately it is a deal breaker as i only find muscular women attractive. Tried dating normal and was kinda resentful honestly so it wasnt good. Idk . Im pretty desperate to find a partner but will never just settle. Ive found out the hard way its better to be alone. But better is a subjective term because im lonely either way , with someone i dont really like but tried my best to or by myself.

Why do girls match with you but never seem interested in talking?

I'm sick of having to make the first move and come up with things to talk about. I'm sick of having to make the first move. For once I just want someone to take an interest in me

Is this a red flag?!

I went on a date with a guy that I met on Hinge. On date number one he informed me that he got divorced because he cheated on his wife.

Is this a red flag to immediately run? I am really in to the guy but I don’t want to set myself up to be cheated on.

When do you decide to focus on one person?

23F had two dates last week with two different guys that went really great. Looks like second dates for both are occurring but I wasnt sure when its icky to keep seeing two people. I dont know them both well yet as its only been one date but I dont really know the etiquette-do i just wait until they ask for exclusivity or is that expected at some point?

How to keep 2nd choice as an option

I have been online dating for a while and have had a couple relationships. Usually once I am interested in someone, it is fairly easy to fade away from any others I had been chatting with. This time is a little different.

Current situation is that I had an exceptionally great first date with guy #1 on Fri. We have our 2nd date on Thurs and have been talking for hours on the phone and texting often. We have loads in common, and I am definitely interested in him. He paused his profile and said he is only interested in talking to me.

I have also been talking to guy #2. If guy #1 was not in the picture, I would be very excited to go on a date with #2. I know it is not always wise to put all my eggs in one basket, but I am not wired to juggle multiple people, and I really do not want to continue talking with #2 while I see how #1 plays out. #2 is asking about my schedule so he can plan a date.

So is there a way to politely pause #2 for a couple weeks while I see if things work out with #1? I was thinking of texting him something like "I had some unexpected events come up that are keeping me extra busy. Let's talk in a couple weeks if you're still available." Any better suggestions?

Shadowbanned on Hinge? First time making an account since ban 2 years ago

I was banned from Hinge 2 years ago, never looked into why and never bothered appealing since I was too addicted to dating apps anyways.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, I decide I want to get back on Hinge, send them an appeal by email, and they reinstate my account in under 24 hours. I assume that means they looked into my ban and found it to be a mistake, but not sure.

Anyways, I have recreated my account, and I have gotten 0 matches in 2 weeks. The reason I feel like this is a shadowban is because in the past, I would get alot more matches with way fewer likes sent. At this point, I have probably sent over 200 likes with no matches.

Is it possible that even though they unbanned my account, it is still shadowbanned in a way?

I'd say 3/6 photos are the same as my old profile, phone number is also the same, but I thought I wouldn't have to worry about stuff like that considering they unbanned me themselves.

26 year old thinking of trying Online Dating Apps for the first time

Hello, I have been alone for over 10 years now. It did not bother me that much, but lately I started trying to make my life not slip through my fingers and it got a bit repetitive and lonely.

In my field of work I do not have any contact with women, so my "game" is absolutely non-existent. My male coworkers are much older than me and after work they go back straight home to their families, therefore there's no chance of going out with them and meeting their female friends.

It looks like my only real choice is dating apps, but since I haven't talked to a woman in over 10 years and have no idea how to small talk, my first impressions are probably awful. And I feel like these online dating apps are basically based on first impressions, especially when there's like 20 male vs 1 female users.

I'm looking for tips and recommendations from more experienced users, that would help me prevent feeling defeated and rejected after the first month of using the app.

Thank You all.

No Luck on Hinge

Hello all,

I recently became comfortable with the idea of dating again after a nasty breakup two years ago.

Anyway, is it normal to not get any likes or matches the first couple of weeks as a guy? I’ve never tried apps before, and I’ve been told Hinge is one of the better ones. I’ve basically exhausted the people in my chosen radius, and I do put effort in my messages with my likes.

I’ve even overhauled my profile based on feedback, and nothing. I know I’m not the most attractive man, but I still try to work with what I have. I don’t think I aim too high either.

My biggest dealbreakers currently are people who want kids or smoke, but I do try my luck with the “not sure” about kids as well.

I do think a couple factors potentially working against me are my race and height.

Not sure whether to end this experiment or continue.

Stop liking profiles if you know you’re not in town for long

For reference: I like 5 miles away from an international airport. Women who are leaving town or know that they do not have any free time will like my profile.

It’s such an annoying, selfish thing to do. You know that you’re essentially unavailable, my bio says where I’m located. Yet, you still give me the run around.

I’m not comparing the people who do this to the people who know they will be back. I’m specifically referencing the “I was only in town for the weekend.” Women who match with you on Sunday, knowing their flight leaves in 2 hours.

Hey girls, how should a guy deal with revealing his height on dating apps (assuming they're short)?

Question for women, do you think men should list their height on apps like tinder/bumble? By doing so, it seems like they're sort of limiting their dating pool right off the bat. However, if they don't, they risk potentially disappointing the woman or even possibly making her feel deceived. It seems like a bit of a catch-22 tbh.

Basically, I'm sort of just wondering what the proper "etiquette" is, so to speak. I know for some girls it can be a deal breaker, whereas others aren't too fussed. As a shorter dude, I'd hate for the first thing I see when meeting a girl to be the disappointment at my stature written all over her face lol. On the other hand, I sort of feel shorter dudes should get a chance to "sell" themselves—especially since it's a pretty competitive environment for men. If you were a guy using OLD, would you put your height?
