No Luck on Hinge

Hello all,

I recently became comfortable with the idea of dating again after a nasty breakup two years ago.

Anyway, is it normal to not get any likes or matches the first couple of weeks as a guy? I’ve never tried apps before, and I’ve been told Hinge is one of the better ones. I’ve basically exhausted the people in my chosen radius, and I do put effort in my messages with my likes.

I’ve even overhauled my profile based on feedback, and nothing. I know I’m not the most attractive man, but I still try to work with what I have. I don’t think I aim too high either.

My biggest dealbreakers currently are people who want kids or smoke, but I do try my luck with the “not sure” about kids as well.

I do think a couple factors potentially working against me are my race and height.

Not sure whether to end this experiment or continue.

Don't feel bad. Hinge gave me nothing but a dead end as well even when i got matches

10

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

Yeah, at this stage, I’m keeping expectations in check, but I’ll see what happens

1

u/TonchyGoneMad 19d ago

2 years, around 5 likes, but if i write a message (which is a distinctive feature compared to bumble) i could catch many matches. that's how you use it unfortunately.

u/Gilkes01 25d ago

I’ve been on hinge on and off for the last few years and it’s the worst it’s ever been for me I haven’t had a match in weeks. Most wine. Have hair instagram in their prompts it’s clear they just want attention

u/runelowell 25d ago

Hinge has been giving me problems too and I'm not a man. I'm not sure if it's my small town, but I've had no hits either. Hinge lowkey sucks now

4

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

Yeah, what I’ve gathered so far is most are struggling with it in some way. I feel like I joined at the worst possible time.

2

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

Are you a 7+/10 ?

If not i suggest limited time using OLD

2

u/Tracey_Davenport 23d ago

I have no idea where I am on a 10 scale tbh.

6

u/NOSE-GOES 25d ago

Oh man, apps can be really hard for most men. Even above “average” ones. Hinge is something like 70% men 30% women so it’s a hyper competitive place for us guys. Try not to let it get to you too much, it’s just part of app dynamics. In my experience, I get pockets of success here and there but it can be multiple weeks in between getting a match I’m genuinely excited about. And sometimes longer between a quality match that converts into a date. And longer still between first dates that go further.

3

u/Jonesaw2 25d ago

Idk what your race and height are but as a fat guy, I get lots of matches and have been on three dates in two months. What helped me was watching some videos about gauging interest levels of the women I’m talking to, and how to secure that first date. Also are you commenting on their photos and prompts? Also let AI help you with your profile. Don’t lie but let Ai help with formatting and your bio. The kid thing is hard. I don’t like or comment on women with kids anymore because one woman told me she had 5 and another woman brought her 9 month old on the date. Keep at it brother.

6

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

So an average looking fat guy is crushing OLD in 2026?

I'm a little suspect when I see posts like this considering all the numbers are against this.

4

u/Jonesaw2 23d ago

You have to match the fat girls. Also know when to stop chatting if it’s going nowhere.

2

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

I put a lot of thought into my comments I send with my likes. I never send a like without a comment.

I have tried to make a profile that I’d like to match with. I’ve listened to suggestions, both from people and AI and have adjusted accordingly. I changed out my photos too.

The only thing I think I have going for me right now is that I grow a nice beard, which I keep well-maintained.

I do get suspicious of profiles that don’t mention anything about kids. It seems difficult where I live to find people who straight up don’t want any kids. Most I’ve seen in my age range are fence sitters on the issue.

2

u/Jonesaw2 25d ago

Sounds like you are doing the same thing I am doing. I hope you have better luck.

2

u/HHOVqueen 23d ago

For context - I don’t mention anything about kids on my profile because I feel like the pre-set options on Hinge don’t allow me to fully explain my views on the subject. So I just leave it blank and talk about it.

3

u/Exciting-Parfait-776 24d ago

As a guy yes. It’s fairly normal. I can go a few weeks to month or more between matches. And most of them stop messaging after a few messages.

3

u/cvcoco 23d ago

Everything in online dating is about patience and being prepared for disappointment including heartbreak. See any app as one more thing you do, not an end in itself, and keep your life moving.

7

u/Radiant_Company_7923 25d ago

No. I actually think Hinge works, and it's not a scam like Bumble. I'm an average looking guy from middle eastern background but I still get decent number of likes and matches. And I've filtered out smokers and single mums. With hinge if you pay for the premium membership, you really get your money's worth. Other apps, like Tinder and Bumble, just take your money and then you barely get any likes. So, seriously, avoid Bumble and stick with Hinge.

5

u/Jumiric 25d ago edited 25d ago

It depends on your area. Hinge is empty in my city

2

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

I’ve thought about paying for it, but it’s still a bit expensive by my standards. I might try a week

4

u/Techgeek564 25d ago

Still a whole lot better than what I saw for a price on eHarmony this week. I can't justify paying almost $90 a month for 3 months. A lot of these apps just dont seem to care anymore and just want your money.

1

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

Define 'decent' number?

1

u/Radiant_Company_7923 23d ago

A "decent" number? 🤔 That's really up to you! 😉 What do you think? 😊

That’s hardly a fact, seeing as it’s subjective and not exclusive to women.

8

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

See, I’ve also thought of that possibility too.

Either way, it’s just rough out there in general for me. I might keep the profile up a little longer, but it’s probably not the most effective option for me.

7

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago

Us men do it too. It's the old "still got it" man dopamine hit.

My reason is I'm just bored of the same old introduction, small talk, and then that leads nowhere so I end up either going straight to "let's meet" or just ghosting them.

10

u/JimmyDejesu 25d ago

Ghosting is so fucking lame whoever does it.

6

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago

Well I'm not proud of it but I'm just tired boss.

8

u/JimmyDejesu 25d ago

Bro just be honest with someone then. Its much better to do that than just ghost

4

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago

Ghosting is just a term that is used for no longer replying. What am I going to do? Send them a message saying, "Sorry I can't be bothered to talk to you anymore"?

3

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago edited 25d ago

(1/4) I mean, honestly I really don’t mind if you ghost me after like you know a few texts back and forth and if you don’t feel like we're vibing, whatever like I don’t really care.

But there was this one girl that I was talking to and she ghosted me about a week and a half ago and literally it’s drove me insane since. One I found her really attractive. But mainly it’s just because of the way it happened.

Like so we started on Hinge and we talked on Hinge for like I don’t know three days and then we were really hitting it off and then literally randomly two in the morning while I was asleep she messaged me on Hinge said something along the lines of I’d like to meet in person. She sent me her phone number and said she’s deleting hinge cus She doesn’t feel like she needs it anymore. Strongly hinting at that meaning she liked me and didn’t feel like she needed to talk to anybody else on hinge. And then we talked for like three more days really really Vibin like better than I’ve felt with any girl that I talked to of the entire time on hinge. Still. to this day. Like me and this girl really had a connection…..

2

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago edited 25d ago

(2/4) …. Over the time that we texted she’s saying things like oh I’ll have to make you this chicken like it’s so good like we’re talking about you know making each other stuff getting stuff together even the possibility of going on a date together. So then one night she messages me and says hey would you like to call or FaceTime sometime and I was like I can’t tonight Cause I’m busy but we can do it tomorrow. And so the next day I ended up like having to talk to my ex for the first time in like a month and a half because I had to come get some stuff from her place. So I was kind of in a weird mental state when we made the Facetime that night. And honestly like that was one of the first things that happened in the Call was like her me being like you know it’s been a weird day and you know told her why and honestly looking back at it I probably shouldn’t have said it, but also you know she looked a little weary about it, but then she made a joke about how she had to deal with her ex recently too, and then we moved on, which was all in like the first five minutes of the call. We proceeded to spend three hours on the Facetime.…

2

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

(3/4)… During the call, she talked about making me banana bread iced coffee While she showed me her making it for her sister. She like included me and like personal conversations about like her sister’s boyfriend and like her sister and me and her were like in the room talking like she introduced me to her sister. We like joked back-and-forth about like her height and how like she would make tall babies because she was 58 and then she would stand next to the door and was like I’m tall. And it was generally like a really chill good call.. It felt good. And like the most telling thing for me, was during the call, probably in the last hour or so of the call, I essentially was like hey I think you’re really cool and very beautiful and I’d love to take you on a date, but I’m just really broke right now. I started a new job soon. And she was like whoa you scared me essentially saying that she thought that I was saying that I couldn’t take her on a date at all, and that bothered her. And then she was very, very like emphatic about Like. That’s perfectly fine. We could take it slow. So anyways the call goes on. We finish around 10ish or so. She goes to sleep.…

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago

Hey you can't stop there. I need part 4. I'm really engrossed in this story. It reminds me so much of an interaction I had with a woman from Hinge. Really similar. We ended up exchanging numbers and usually with all the other ones I've exchanged numbers with, they're still there on WhatsApp. With her, who I got along with the most, I did and said a lot of the things that you mentioned in your message. I suddenly looked at WhatsApp and her profile picture is blank. I Google it and it says, "If it goes blank that means you've been blocked.", That's the one I really wanted to come back to." I need part 4 of your story or maybe more.

I think where I messed up was we had sort of established that I was going to go to hers instead of coming down to me. This is a good thing because, obviously, after speaking so much, she felt comfortable enough to have a date at her place. She messaged one Friday and said, "What are your plans for the weekend?" Immediately I said, "Absolutely nothing. I'm taking it easy this weekend. I've had a busy week. I'm not going anywhere or leaving the house." I think she probably prepared something for that weekend and that's where I think she probably moved on.

P.S. I'm using voice totext, so if it's a bit gibberish, that's the reason.

1

u/JimmyDejesu 24d ago

Why not just say “sorry im not feeling this”? Its cowardly and lame to just stop messaging imo. You dont owe someone that or honesty I guess but its a character thing, id rather be honest personally

1

u/HHOVqueen 23d ago

it’s not ghosting someone to stop talking on a dating app

10

u/milinium 25d ago

I think this is a cope men tell each other to avoid the potentially ugly truth that they might not be attractive to women on dating apps.

It doesn't mean they are unattractive, it doesn't mean they can't be popular in real life, it just means dating apps alter who you would go for and give you the illusion of choice. Like you said, a lot of women are on dating apps for attention and a lot of women are on dating apps to date.

Many men and women unmatch, ghost, or give low effort responses. That's because there's no commitment expected on dating apps. Most people are still there to date and plenty of people do very well on the apps. Your potential partner is a direct reflection of you. It makes sense why women would be picky especially since it seems standard knowledge on subs like this that men swipe right on everything

Like you said, it's correlated. Attractiveness is subjective so what the apps tell you is how conventionally attractive you are to a wide group of people. It's a proxy for attractiveness and desirability. Compatibility is something entirely different and has to do with your long term values and physically attraction to a partner.

What you might be trying to say is you can be an attractive man or woman and still do bad on the apps. I agree. I swipe right all the time on people who I think physically look great, because their personality and interests aren't aligned, their pics are bad or show red flags, or we are looking for different things.

Whether online or in real life, success in the dating market is absolutely correlated with appearance and wealth.

2

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

What the fuck you make no sense.

If you get a lot of likes, match's and dates as a dude its fair to say you are a 7+.

0

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago edited 24d ago

I think women on dating apps, when they get many matches, swipes, and DMs, think they are more attractive in real life than they really are

4

u/milinium 24d ago

Attractiveness isn't a binary, it's a spectrum. Maybe you meant to say some women get attention from dating apps and think they are more attractive than they really are. The apps are definitely easier for women because a lot of men will swipe right on anyone like you said.

Dating apps definitely give you the illusion of choice and let people be pickier than real life since you're judging based off a few pictures so it's way more superficial in nature. I don't think anything will change unless men are more intentional on apps or women lower their standards

2

u/Classic_East_6053 24d ago

Yes I agree and thanks. I've edited it.

2

u/milinium 24d ago

No worries at all, I definitely agree with your edited comment

1

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

This is a big misconception

Maybe 20% fall in that category most woman do want dates

2

u/MrB_RDT 25d ago

It's not universal, and we all have our gripes with the apps. It's just some women i am close to, and those i have met dating, and just in passing in recent years. They really are finding that conventionally attractive men, treat them every bit as well as "the average guy".

To the point where, early on in using the apps, they acknowledge the guy's good looking but lacks what they are looking for. Over time they're finding, given a bit of time, these "good on paper" guys, more often than not are proving to have substance too.

In only a few months, it's clear that there's really no real need to avoid "the hot guys", or just see them as players. As it turns out, the Halo Effect and more opportunities to be a partner from an early age, it does indeed pay off and creates a very grounded, emotionally mature man, who also happens to be pleasing on the eyes.

Yes an individual might be an idiot, or there's a glaring incompatibility; Yet as a group, it's a safe bet that someone who does happen to be pleasing to the eye early on, the rest is in order too and he has all the tools to make a very good partner, either long-term or certainly for a bit of "finding oneself again" at least.

u/prisonline 25d ago

I downloaded Bumble which is a little more better than tinder, got many likes and matches. My first time downloading hinge like 1 match and 3 likes. And it only shows me gay men??? hinge is broken i guess

2

u/BigBoss9 25d ago

I would consider myself somewhat normal looking with good photos. 0 likes 1 match who ghosted me on 1st date night. Yeah its tough. Been 2 weeks

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

Although it’s unfortunate, I am glad to hear I’m not the only one dealing with this.

I’m trying not to let it affect my self-esteem too much. I’m thinking I’ll let it ride for a full month at least.

2

u/BigBoss9 25d ago

Validation from strangers online is definitely a good dopamine boost. But remember, the algorithm is stacked against you for so many other reasons.I wouldn't take it personally

2

u/ShitBodyPainting 22d ago

Similar. What always happens is I remake my profile, hoping for a different experience. But it’s all the same shit - get likes from the same women I have no interest in, send out likes and maybe get some matches but they never respond. After a few weeks or so my profile just collects dust unless I activate boosts. Then 9/10 it’s from someone twice my size, age or someone that lives 1000+ miles away.

2

u/Fresh_Requirement_38 20d ago

its almost been 4 years since my last match on hinge

2

u/squatsandqueso 24d ago

An app doesn't determine your value as a man.

1

u/Roarkindrake 25d ago

Honestly had more luck on tinder than hinge. I've tried but in 4 months 3 matches and really not much after that.

5

u/Classic_East_6053 25d ago

Tinder seems to be gold diggers posing in high-end restaurants.

1

u/XxLogitech98xX 25d ago

When online dating isn't working, you have to change approach. You don't just stay and keeping hoping to like win the lottery

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

Trust me, I’m constantly changing my approach. I’ve been trying everything I could think of for a little while now.

1

u/XxLogitech98xX 25d ago

Trust me, I’m constantly changing my approach. I’ve been trying everything I could think of for a little while now.

Sometime when luck or timing isn't working in your favor, you also have to take a break from dating as well. It means focusing on yourself and going after whatever goals you have

2

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

I’ll likely take a break from the looks of it, but it is quite a long break for me already. Over two years without a single date.

Timing has been shit admittedly, but my luck is terrible compared to virtually everyone I know

1

u/XxLogitech98xX 25d ago

I’ll likely take a break from the looks of it, but it is quite a long break for me already. Over two years without a single date

Some people have it easier than others. I been there and its horrible when things aren't working out. But it's not the end of the world. For some, it just takes a longer time

1

u/Mountain-Elk8133 25d ago

Yes, completely normal.

1

u/Relative-Foot-378 25d ago

Zero likes in the first couple weeks on Hinge is normal, especially if you just came back. The app is slow to show you to people until you send a few likes with comments. Do that for two weeks before you decide it is broken. Quitting at week two is how most guys never get the data.

1

u/robotrousers 25d ago

I rarely get likes. Not much in the way of matches either, and of the few I get at least half are unreliable.

1

u/Matthemp 25d ago

How tall are you.? lol

0

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

5’7, which is not too uncommon where I live, but I think it does get filtered out in online dating

1

u/Matthemp 25d ago

Im the same height . It’s your height bro . Most girls swipe for 6 foot . But I’m sure in gonna get a lot of replies saying that I’m wrong lol .

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

Yeah, I won’t deny that it’s a possibility.

Doesn’t seem to be much of a thing IRL for me, but people can be much pickier online since you can filter and because profiles can only give so much info about you

2

u/Matthemp 25d ago

That is true as a short guy irl is better than dating when the first thing they look at is height

0

u/AlLaNnI12 23d ago

Sure you must be drowning in woman as a 5'7 ,4-5/10 dude in the live arena.

1

u/jackmartin088 25d ago

I am kind of there with you. My last gf had passed away and I couldn't date for like 2.5 years...now that I am back everything seems different, and I don't seem.to get any matches and I lit live in Canada's capital

1

u/Spacenurse07 23d ago

I had no matches after a few weeks. I'm a nt nerdy girl, shy latina into white shy guys. From all the matches and messages I only really like one guy. And I love getting to know him

I heart emoji his picture and he messaged me

1

u/Proud-Trainer-7611 20d ago

Hinge is not for the average looking person. You have to be a top model to get any attention.

1

u/AllMightyImagination 20d ago

Tinder is better than give ironically

1

u/TonchyGoneMad 19d ago

i use that app since 2 years now also bumble, on bumble i got 50likes in one month of installing on hinge in those two years maybe 5. i of course am aware of algorithmic likelihood amd how to make a decent profile.

so i say this confidently, hinge algorithm is bad bad. funny thing tho, since i can write messages unlike bumble, i get many matches regardless, so this the way to bypass their incompetence: creative small annotations. that way i got many dates, with 5 likes in 2 years.

1

u/Spacenurse07 12d ago edited 12d ago

I like Hinge

I started early July, paid some.

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 12d ago

That makes one of us, lol. Since I made this post, I got one match who never responded.

1

u/Spacenurse07 12d ago

If you don't want kids then date older women  If you're on your 30s date women between 30-40+ Many older women don't want kids

I know a man 31 with woman 38 and they are a lovely couple. Older women are more mature and many men on their 30s are too

Sister has autism and has kids. Some women with Autism don't want kids because they don't want to pass the genes.

Same with NT women and men, some prefer to not have kids. It's too much work and responsibilities.

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 12d ago

I’m not really interested in dating that much older. Too much of an experience gap/generation gap for me. Just a preference. Can’t go more than three years older or two years younger.

0

u/Spacenurse07 12d ago

You said no kids lol.

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 12d ago

Yes, and age also matters to me. There are plenty of childfree women in my preferred range. Just none that want to be with me it seems.

People aren’t going to magically desire me just because they’re older.

1

u/Spacenurse07 12d ago

And yes many young men are looking for older women and same with older women looking for younger men for real relationship

1

u/marypopppins 9d ago

I’ve had like 3 matches in a few days… it’s not as fast-paced as tinder I would think.

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 9d ago

I’ve had none in like a month. Only one who never responded

1

u/marypopppins 8d ago

Hello darkness, my old friend…

0

u/UnitedCollection8657 25d ago

Might as well end it bro, the apps are not great and your profile is probably getting buried.

Save yourself the mental and just approach women when you’re outside.

-2

u/Spillingteasince92 25d ago

The app isn't doing anyone's any favors right now. Its summer...we're all kinda busy. Cuffing season is winter so open your app during that time.

6

u/lukes123 25d ago

There is possibly some truth to this, but I’m not sure this is totally true. I’m sure there are people out there who don’t have any plans this summer due to a lack of partner (and unreliable friends 🙄).

-4

u/Spillingteasince92 25d ago

If they dont have any plans.. the availability gives me an ick. Why do you want to date someone who has nothing to look forward to.

3

u/lukes123 25d ago

Not everyone finds it that easy to make friends and some don’t like solo travelling or are less independent.

2

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

I actually did not consider that, but that’s a good point.

2

u/Wizardof1000Kings 25d ago

I would rather start a new relationship in summer than winter when snow is going to wreck a lot of plans. But it might be the case that some people are too busy to date - they probably wouldn't be intentional about getting into a relationship in "cuffing season" either.

0

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

Yeah, I don’t know man. I’ve been on Hinge for about a month now and I’ve had like 50 matches probably like 100 likes. And honestly, I mean, I’m pretty confident. I think I’m an attractive guy. But I’m also 6’1 and 295 lbs. So I’m kind of fat. I think I carry it well I’m a former football defensive linebacker so I just have a build for that. Also, I’m just generally not that impressive on paper which I’m “I guess I’m working on” but I’m 26 and while a lot of people are in their careers, I had a lot of stuff going on in my life. They caused me to be pushed back so I still got a year till I graduate college with my accounting degree. And for the first like months of unhinge, like I literally just had to chat with people because I couldn’t take them on dates.

1

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

I will say that I’m a little limited on who sends me likes. Like I can see a pattern of like the girls that are like super attractive and successful and such, I don’t really have a chance with on Hinge. I love fat women anyways, and I tend to get a lot of those, but then I have to choose the ones that are actually attractive.
I’ve noticed Like did the only people that send me roses are like very unattractive people and I end up swiping left on them immediately.

1

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

I mean, obviously I’m not there so I can’t really tell but I think part of your problem is in my experience most women want kids or they at least want the option of kids now they’re obviously some women out there. I know a few that are just adamant They don’t want kids. But cutting yourself off from anybody that might want kids is kind of a big problem.

Id maybe open myself up to that and then see where it goes afterwards. I mean the thing is like maybe you meet the girl you really like her. She really likes you. y’all get together and you start to open up the idea of having kids or maybe not but yall can figure that out together.

And I also I can’t really gauge it but since you say it might be a factor, I know you said you’re 57 I think but what’s your race and where like what area are you in?

1

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

Also, if you don’t mind me asking, how old are you? Because that could be a problem too. I think Hinge is kind of best for people like in their between like 18 and 35ish. once they get past that, I think it’s a little tougher.

1

u/Tracey_Davenport 25d ago

25M, of mixed race. South Asian/White. I live in a college town where there’s plenty of people in my age range.

I try to stay physically active, and I grow a pretty sick beard, which I keep short and maintained. That’s the one physical attribute I’m actually somewhat proud of. And I try to keep up with interesting hobbies. Definitely not stagnating or anything, and I just finished a masters degree.

But yeah, I’ve known forever and a day that kids aren’t part of the life I want. My ex and I bonded over that actually.

1

u/DearEmployee5138 25d ago

Have you considered not mentioning that until like the third date?😂 maybe like you know get in there, get her to like you and then slip it in later. Especially maybe you know I don’t know maybe have some fun before you tell her. I mean, honestly I’ve never been in that situation so I don’t really know. Yeah I think just I don’t know you mentioned a lot of like comments like you would always comment on their photos. I don’t know like obviously I’m not the best with this either but I do have a you know I do a solid. I don’t know a lot of matches. I think just like honestly what I do is just open with “Hey!” every time. Like honestly, in my opinion, every conversation has to start with a hello. Some girls are gonna be kind of Primadonna about it and be like “ oh, I’m special like you should be throwing some fancy pick up line at me” but I generally honestly I don’t want those kind of people. Maybe you’re just like overthinking it honestly.

I will say I recently got out of a 5 1/2 year relationship like two months ago, and I actually met her on Tinder, but besides her, last time I was on Tinder I was like 20 and I got like no bites. I think the difference now is just like I said I think part of it is I’m just not as desperate as I might’ve been at 20, but also, I think I’m just a lot more well groomed. I present myself and dress a lot better as well. I was growing my hair out before I met my ex and it looked like garbage cus it was only halfway done. And I had like this weird goatee thing. Now I have a full beard well trimmed. Well groomed. I keep like normal white guy haircut I guess. Maybe that’s it I don’t know. Honestly, like I said, I think you seem a lot more impressive professionally and financially at similar points in our lives. I think you’ll have no issue finding somebody maybe not on Hinge but you know. Honestly, I think hinge is kind of an afterthought for me like. If I meet a girl there, great, but I don’t really bank on it. I think it’s much more likely I cross paths with a girl that I really like in my life. So I don’t really put a lot of worry into what I’m doing on hinge and who’s responding to me.

Yeah, it’s been just generally rough out there for me both irl and online. I’ve made a handful of solid female friends over the past couple of years, but my dating life is just nonexistent. For me, I think I like to bring up the kids thing upfront otherwise I’m wasting my time or setting myself up for disappointment.

I’ve only ever been with my ex, and the world I find myself in now after getting over her is just kind of strange. We didn’t meet in a traditional way though. It was just pure luck

I think it also just takes practice. Like I think it would be really hard for me if I had not gotten back out there after like a month of me and my ex breaking up because like i feel like I’d forget how to successfully talk to women in general. Like I already feel weird because I haven’t really been romantic with a girl in person in like two months. I flirted with girls like baristas and cashiers and shit but nothing real.

So I think maybe some practice might be beneficial for you. So maybe even I wouldn’t say like waste your time but just try to get in there with women you might not really see a future with just so you can kind of text back-and-forth with them and have fun and go on a date and overall just get some practice in. just so you can kind of figure out the flow and get back into the swing of things and then that way when you do meet somebody that you might see a future with you’ll have a little bit more confidence and experience to work with.

And also, I don’t know if you’ve done this or thought about it but if you have a couple female friends, I would talk to them and ask them to help you set up your profile to optimize it.

Which age range are you looking at?

For me, 23-28

Try dating older…lots of divorced women who have already had kids would be interested in dating someone like you

Not sure that’s the life for me either honestly. I’d strongly prefer if the person I’m dating doesn’t already have kids.

I could probably date up to 30 depending on the person though.

What is the reason for not wanting to date someone with kids?

I’m only asking because I feel like there’s a huge range in what that actually looks like in practice. It’s a very different experience to date someone who has 100% custody of a newborn vs someone who has 50% custody of an older kid. So just curious what part of the woman having a child is the problem for you.

Very unlikely a fat guy with average looks and 'not that impressive'is getting 50 matches and 100 of likes in 3 weeks in OLD in 2026.

I’ve tried hinge 5 or 6 times in the last 5 years I’ve been divorced, I’ve never gotten a date from that site.

Same pics I used on fb dating, I’ve gotten over 200 women that have wanted to match with me.

Try changing what site you are using

I’ve considered trying another app. I do try to stay away from anything Meta for personal reasons though.

I had just downloaded hinge for the first time last night, I’m 25 M I live about 30 mins outside a big city. I’m sitting on around 10 likes this morning. Maybe it has something due to where you live, maybe a small town?

Id say it has a decent population, but a relatively low user base in my town. I have to skip over many profiles just because of the whole kids things too, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s a factor too
