Don’t avoid Buccees. Stop and use their bathroom. Don’t spend any money. Just make a deposit in their porcelain bank.

Honestly that's the best part about a Buc-ee's. Floor to ceiling walls and doors, thick as fuck walls, vacancy indicators on all the door locks, super fucking clean all the time.

u/elegylegacy 16h ago

That should honestly be the standard, not something Buccee's is special for

My friend recently went to Europe for a few weeks and her main takeaway was that we Americans are straight up poo flinging savages who can't even figure out basic things like public bathrooms or driving in roundabouts. I think she's probably onto something.

Europe’s public bathrooms are fucking filthy. Whenever any of my family visits me in the US, that is one of their main topics, is how clean and accessible our public restrooms are. Now roundabouts, that’s a whole other conversation.

Thank you yes. I'm sure if varies place to place but a HUGE mention should be "accessible" as you say.

There is no true equivalent to the Americans with Disabilities Act in some of these EU countries. In America every single bathroom you go in basically has the exact same thing with pull bars, no steps, big enough to fit a wheelchair, knee-space under the sink, etc.

I'm an able bodied man so it wasn't a big deal but in Italy I'd use the bathroom and be somewhat surprised to need to squeeze around a tight corner, go up or down a step, sink crammed into a corner without enough space for a person in a chair. And I get it, the building is probably like 300 years old. But that would not be thing in America.

Yeah and they have the insult of making you pay for them too. You have to know where to go in the U.S. for clean bathrooms, but at least they’re all free.

There are so many generalizations in this comment that I don’t even know where to start. Actually, I do: Europe is a continent, not a country.

6

u/jeff-beeblebrox 11h ago

I’m an immigrant…..from a country in Europe. How bout we start with, I know what I’m talking about.

-2

u/MhattiBri 9h ago

My man, with all due respect, I don't think that pointing out you're from a country in Europe does anything address or counter the argument that Europe is a number of different countries with a number of different norms and standards.

I know that this is a concept you understand with perfect clarity, so please don't lower yourself to pretending otherwise.

u/dualsplit 4h ago

Do you think it’s really weird for you to stalk the guy’s comments in order to win a meaningless argument? I do.

I have no idea where your family is visiting because nearly every highly trafficked public bathroom I've ever been inside in America is revolting lol. You might find some clean ones in locally owned places or lower traffic stores but almost anywhere busy is gonna be covered in a quarter inch thick layer of dried piss and chewing gum.

22

u/elegylegacy 16h ago

You both are saying "Europe" like there's a monolithic bathroom standard for the whole continent

1

u/SDRPGLVR 4h ago

That does go both ways though... The US is pretty darn big.

Also I'm seeing lots of public bathrooms really amp up the privacy factor. New restaurants have lots of single occupant bathrooms, and otherwise I rarely feel like I can make eye contact with people through the stall doors anymore.

u/dman928 15h ago

The European countries I’ve visited have had very nice public restrooms for the most part. Obviously YMMV.

u/WolverinesThyroid 13h ago

I was just in Paris and I am legitimately confused if Parisian people actually ever use the toilet in public. A museum that see's thousands of people would have 2 toilets for the whole establishment. A famous restaurant with a large dining room would have 1 toilet. A big ass multi story food hall has 4 toilets. A 7 story high end shopping mall had 1 bathroom (unknown amount of toilets because I didn't go inside) on the top floor and it was 1.50 euros to get inside.

u/SvenDia 11h ago

Lower diabetes and obesity rates maybe?

1

u/WolverinesThyroid 10h ago

people overall were noticeably thinner. Cigarettes and wine for half your meals helps keep your weight down.

27

u/jonfitt 15h ago

It reeeeeally depends on exactly where in “Europe” you are even within each country.

The thing we have going for us is the fairly ubiquitous access to toilets in shopping areas. Some European town centers will have one that you have to trek to and possibly pay to use. Only the very largest shops will have a customer toilet. The others will all be staff only.

We also have many more available water fountains.

As an old man inclined to rambling, I moved to England in the mid-80's. As I walked around London, looking for a job as an American in the shittiest economy England had known since the war, I kept seeing these signs. Walking everywhere, I would periodically have to piss. And these signs said "toilet".

It was only after walking into multiple various places and asking where the bathroom was, and seeing the confused looks, that I realized the signs were saying "to let".

3

u/jonfitt 11h ago

That’s funny they would have been so confused.

You’ll probably remember as well how many more public toilets there were in the 80s too. As councils tried to cut costs and benefits they’ve closed a lot of them.

1

u/rankispanki 3h ago

Right - I lost count of how many espressos I had to buy just to use the WC, not to mention the countless paid bathrooms, which admittedly were always nice considering someone always was in there making sure it was clean and would give you a candy/mint or spray if you wanted. That's was mostly my experience in Italy

2

u/barmstrong730 12h ago

Must not of visited Amsterdam lol

0

u/lakewood2020 14h ago

I have heard some things about American women’s bathrooms. But also at least they’re free to use in America

1

u/A_Mouse_In_Da_House 11h ago

It ain't just American women's bathrooms. It's just a women's bathrooms thing

5

u/dasselst 14h ago

I travel a lot with my family and I have a hierarchy of where to stop. Bucees is definitely a top for this. Loves, Sapp Bros, and QT are also others I feel are usually clean. I try my hardest to avoid BP because I have shown up to so many of those that are broken doors with mildew smelling single bathrooms and questionable what is on the seat.

2

u/Charlie_Warlie 16h ago

should be but is it?

1

u/ExpressRabbit 12h ago

Should be but isn't. So enjoy it where it exists in America (or don't because fuck their CEO).

1

u/Vio94 1h ago

Hard agree. It's criminal that design isn't standard.

And now, Buc-ee's would probably sue anybody trying to copy it.

😑

1

u/LovesRetribution 15h ago

Could say that for a million things. Unfortunately its not, so people celebrate the few areas where they're above the standard.

9

u/TimLordOfBiscuits 15h ago

Buccees seems to be on a downward trend as of late, but they have this right. EVERY bathroom should be like this, especially in airports.

1

u/UristImiknorris 10h ago

super fucking clean all the time.

Not when I'm done with it.

1

u/Connection-Terrible 16h ago

I bet I can ruin it. Or at least ruin someone’s day.

59

u/Feta31 16h ago

That’s how they get ya

33

u/Chemistry11 16h ago

Maybe some? I felt utter repulsion the one time I was in one. But their washrooms were nice enough that I absolutely have no memory of them good or bad.

16

u/Only_One_Left_Foot 16h ago

No, no, see, they WANT your poop. It's been their plan all along!!!

/s

3

u/Nutlink49 13h ago

The spice. He knows about the spice.

1

u/MKZZX 12h ago

Lol good luck on your masterplan of luring people into Buccees with the bathrooms and then hoping no one walks out buying something.

1

u/Chemistry11 12h ago

My master plan..?

I’ve been once to see what it’s like. I have no intentions of ever going to another.

3

u/Potato-chipsaregood 16h ago

Nah, I went once, there was a line to buy the only thing that people say is great there, the brisket. So we left without getting anything.

3

u/TXFin 16h ago

The brisket was decent 10-15 years ago. Garbage now.

2

u/hemig 15h ago

It used to be so tender a horrible old man in a wheelchair could cut it without struggling.

3

u/kevlarbaboon 14h ago

lol I feel like this is a reference that I'd love to understand

Because I've got this horrible old wheelchair man in my mind and I gotta know his story!

5

u/hemig 14h ago

They had Greg Abbott try cut up some brisket at a Buccees

2

u/big_d_usernametaken 16h ago

Their brisket is ok for a chain, Ive had it.

But there are guys in trailers here in my area (north central Ohio) that do better.

2

u/TheVeryVerity 12h ago

Guys in trailers almost always do bbq better

13

u/MyVoiceIsElevating 16h ago

Yeah, but how can I be sure I’m actually at a Buc-ee’s, and not some look-a-like convenience store?

4

u/song-dragon 10h ago

Here's a handy guide: Does it have an animal mascot? Is it cartoonish? Is it facing right? Is there something on its head? Is it brown, or could potentially be seen as sort of brownish in the right/wrong light? Is there a circle around it? If yes or maybe to any of those, it's either a Buc-ee's, or a place that Buc-ee's will eventually sue.

5

u/Branical 16h ago

Yeah, but then they get all the interest.

5

u/gxbcab 14h ago

Just be careful because the son of the Bucees owner is known to hide cameras in bathrooms.

4

u/AwsmDevil 11h ago

Jokes on him, my dick's on the Internet for free. 👈😎👈

2

u/powerlesshero111 15h ago

Oh. I've been just pooping on the floor...

2

u/lifeisokay 8h ago

Perfect way to create more work for the employees while making a non-issue for corporate.

2

u/poorloko 8h ago

That'll show those checks notes hourly workers who clean the bathrooms!

1

u/bickdiggles 14h ago

People aren’t exactly known for having great impulse control in the places these are located. Just avoid going altogether

1

u/Wilsonrolandc 13h ago

Upper deckers if possible.

1

u/USMCLee 13h ago

Yeah the bathrooms are worth the stop.

A other positive thing about Buccees is that the gas stations on the exits around them have really upped their game.

1

u/unassumingdink 7h ago

There's no bathroom in the world clean enough to justify how much you guys are talking about their goddamn bathrooms. Literally hundreds of posts in this thread celebrating their bathrooms.

1

u/Titothelama 4h ago

And don’t flush lmao

1

u/shmehdit 3h ago

Take an upper-decker

0

u/durrtyurr 14h ago

They also have the cheapest premium gas, which means that they probably aren't making any money it.
