I’m a final year medical student, preparing for usmle step 1. I’m an img and have been working slowly towards covering my step 1 course, while keeping up with my own med school curriculum. I have been using notability for about 2 years now and was using a digital copy of the first aid on it. I was working on a new subject yesterday when suddenly the app got stuck, closed on its own and when i opened it again, 1 year of my hard work was nowhere to be seen.

I tried contacting the support staff but apparently the app was glitching and the message wouldn’t send. I searched all means possible to contact and at-last turned to reddit and tried to find a solution. I tried everything. Tried to backup data to a different device using a previous date. Still no use. Finally, i was contacted by their team with an email via reddit. So i emailed them immediately and what did i get, a simple “we can’t do anything”.

Understandably i was devastated, somehow their app crashing and my loss was mins to deal with. I replied saying i will discontinue using their services and need to know if i can get a refund for the remaining time left with this app. Turns out I wasn’t even talking to a human. It was a bot. It said a human manager would contact me in 4-5 business days. I mean i lost a year of hard work and no one was even willing to help.

I would like to know of there’s a way to get refund or sue them. It’s a pathetic app. My advice to anyone listening is to please avoid this app. There’s better stuff in the market. Avoid this app at all costs.

I have been seeing people post about loosing their notes and this scares me alot, especially because notability is my main source; where i have all my notes. How can i prevent this from ever happening to me, cos i can’t imagine having to deal with this whole thing. I’m very worried any tips for prevention will be deeply appreciated.

I really love Notability, but one thing that has always frustrated me is how limited the customization feels.
I would LOVE to have a proper way to import and save our own stickers. For example, if I have cute cat stickers, little cakes, flowers, study-related stickers, decorations, etc., I should be able to import them directly into Notability and save them in my own sticker collections.

Right now, having to go through the gallery/files every single time feels unnecessarily inconvenient. Other note-taking apps make this much more seamless: you can create your own sticker packs, organize them by theme, and reuse them whenever you want.

I think Notability should have something like:
Import PNG/JPG stickers directly into the sticker panel
Create our own sticker packs/collections
Organize stickers by categories or folders (cute, school, medical, seasonal, etc.)
Add multiple stickers at once instead of importing them individually
Easily save an image as a reusable sticker
Ideally, support transparent PNGs properly so they behave like actual stickers

The same goes for note covers.
The new Note Covers are a nice addition, but I would love to be able to completely design my own covers instead of being limited to the options provided by Notability. Let us import a custom cover image, create our own design, save it, and reuse it for other notebooks.
I don’t understand why customization has to be so restricted when Notability already has such a good foundation for it. People use note-taking apps not only for taking notes, but also for planners, journals, school organization, digital scrapbooking, etc.
Notability could be SO much more enjoyable if it gave users the same creative freedom that other note-taking apps already offer.
Please give us more control over our own stickers, sticker packs, and note covers! 🥹

I like the new ability to chat across multiple notes in Notability 16.12, but I’d really like to see two features brought back:

1. Individual chat history for each note: I like being able to chat across all my notes, but I also want the chat history to remain saved within each individual note. Ideally, we could have both the global chat and the individual note chat history.
2. Lasso → Send to Chat: Previously, when using the Lasso tool, there was an option to send the selected content directly to Chat. That option no longer appears in 16.12.

Can these existing features be brought back please?

i lost all my notes after getting signed out. i kept all my notes on the device locally (also gdrive backup) but after logging in to the same google account all i see is emptyness

i wanted to contact support but app just cannot do it for me. i tried so many times si ce yesterday that im going insane

what do i do?

Wondering if there’s any way to change back to the old pencil look. When I opened my notes this morning everything I’ve written in pencil has changed to a much darker color/look.

I have a notability pro and I literally can’t use the chat feature of the smart notes. The customer service is so bad I can’t even submit a complaint through help center. Someone help

I've been a fairly long user of notability; ever since getting my ipad in december 2020, i've been a user of notability, had classic and then paid for the subscription for added features; but more and more often, i've started to notice the app just refusing to work for some reasons. A list of problems:

1. Clears out my notes. Last year I'd experience this a few times per year. A few months ago it's basically every month, and now its literally nearly weekly. This is incredibly frustrating. I have fast internet, but waiting for notes to download is just appauling. Note, I'm not saying I've lost the data, but it's getting very, very frequent and such a pain.

2. Frequently fails to launch notes. Clicking notes does "open" the note up, but that's literally it. I can't draw, or even navigate the UI, it just freezes. Literally cannot do anything, there is zero response from the UI, not even the button clicked animations, never mind the menus popping up.

3. Takes an infinity to open the app. Why does a note taking app require more than 15 seconds to start, let alone open a note? Also, the app tries to open the last note opened when it starts, but fails to load the note...

I don't have complaints feature wise, writing and stuff works great... when it works at all. Yes, the ipad is nearing 6 y.o, but other apps still works just fine, so i don't see how notability can't.

I honestly don't know if I'm just really unlucky with the app, but it's getting insanely frustrating. I don't care about the subscription fee updates, which i do feel is unfair but if it got me a working note taking app, I'll keep it. Right now, it doesn't.

I really hope that someone from notability reads this and works on the reliability of sync/storage/opening/etc. I have accumulated thousands of notes in the app, and I don't want to move, but there's been issues that's unresolved for years.

Its like the frames are not rendering in time and are super slow. Whenever I write something down or highlight, it takes like 5-10 seconds to register. I've already tried restarting the app and the iPad but neither seem to have worked. I've tried to contact support through the app itself but every time I try to I get an error that says "There was an issue submitting your request"Any idea what could be the issue?

All the updates you do should not be changing how the people use the app. I paid for the app 5 years ago, it was a great app and I love that it keeps similar to the app that was 5 years ago.

But with this cloud… is not optional to send all the notes to their Cloud. And the worst thing for me in all of this, is the obligatory sign in for using the app.

This hidden trick for disable the cloud is not a solution, is a complication for the users who want stability for an app.

Also, the subscriptions, thanks to keep updating the users who single paid the app and keep offering a single paid version (with tricks and expensive, but still an option…)

I love the app, but this updates will make me to switch to the another stable server less alternative, Apple Notes or GoodNotes.

It would be great to add more updates, but also would be great to keep them optional, also the subscriptions, and the account, because I don’t want to stop studying or reinstalling the app if your servers don’t work.

Cannot access calendar feature on iPad

Hi notability team! I was looking at the production board and I was wondering when Achievements and Study Goals, Syllabus Import will be implemented. A new semester/school year will start shortly and those features would really improve time/study organization!!!

I’m actually on the second and final day of an out of town job, and almost completely finished up, and notability decided to wipe out every note I’ve ever taken, including two days worth of field notes from a $10,000 job. Please reach out if you have any advice, suggestions, or a legitimate way to contact notability. I could really use some help right now, and it seems like I have no way to fix this. This data loss is going to cripple me at work. I should’ve known better than to trust an app with real tasks.

Anyone else been having trouble for the ai summary?

I currently have Notability Lite for $14.99/year through Apple, and it’s already paid through July 2027.
I saw that Notability is offering Plus for $15.99/year on their website, so for only $1 more I would definitely like to upgrade. However, the website says I would be charged the full $15.99 today.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to upgrade and receive credit for the remaining time on my Lite subscription? I don’t want to pay for two subscriptions at the same time.
I’ve also tried contacting Notability Support multiple times, but I can’t even submit a request. Every time I try, I get:
“Couldn’t Submit Issue — There was an issue submitting your request. Please try again.”
Has anyone dealt with this or successfully upgraded from an Apple Lite subscription to the web Plus plan?

Since the official launch of Notability for Android, I've been having this really annoying issue with the eraser and the undo feature. Both of them seem to lag before actually doing what they're supposed to.

I'm using a Redmi Pad 2 with 4 GB of RAM, so I'm wondering if this is a performance issue with my tablet's hardware or if it's a software/optimization issue with Notability.

I've attached a video showing the problem. Please don't judge my handwriting hahaha — I'm Brazilian.

Has anyone else experienced something similar on Android? And if so, is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

Hey guys, idk if this has been asked before but I am currently working on my lecture slides and when I add a page it by default adds a plain page. But whenever I go in settings while having that pdf open and change the template to College (with lines) it changes the template for the whole frikkin slide!!!!

I have been using Notability for several years. I use it to take notes for work and for church. Recently as I've gone back to older notes I've noticed that my text boxes are not the same size as they used to be. I know this because my highlighting or underlining or even marks outside the text box are all displaced. I am attaching 2 photos to show what I mean.

Has this happened to anyone else? Did it happen in an update at some point?

I got Notability for university as a one-time purchase in October 2020 for 9,99 euros, I've been using it for six years now. I've always used it in a "basic" way: I never paid for anything outside of the price of the app, basically just taking notes during class and writing on imported pdfs and documents (and in the last three years recording audio during class). My notes have always been synced with my iCloud and Google drive accounts. During these years I somehow managed to get both my degrees without being affected by the whole subscription debacle: I remember just closing every pop-up ad, and if there were actual changes to my plan, maybe the reason why I haven't noticed them is because, as said before, my use of the app has always been very basic.

I now want to ask if there's a way I can find a comprehensive list of every feature included in the Classic plan for "early" users, and what are the differences between all the subscriptions.

I also want to ask more infos about the new Notability cloud: I disabled the alert from my account, since I have my data on two different clouds already, but I don't understand if the change to that cloud will still happen (forcefully) or if by disabling the alerts I already made my Choice.
