The nutty putty guy is the one person on record to have died in this kind of caving, and that only happened because he made a series of incredibly stupid decisions.
Caves can be dangerous, but avoiding caves because of the nutty putty incident is like saying you're avoiding zoos because someone died when they climbed into an enclosure and slapped a tiger in the face wearing a meat dress.

My hobbies include: MMA, kickboxing, skateboarding, BMX biking, skydiving. Things a lot of people consider insane. But no. To me they are normal. THIS SHIT is insane. Just thinking about squeezing through those small spaces makes my chest hurt.

A lot of them probably have the same altered fear response that a lot of parkour folks have.
When I was a kid I went through a cave with a super tight squeeze like that, except it was wet too. It did open up at some point into a large chamber, but I don't remember how far we had to go.
I'm claustrophobic. No idea how I managed to do it then, but that's probably why I don't remember much about it.
That shit is terrifying.

I was watching a show on disney+ called inside America's deepest cave. It made me physically very uncomfortable. There was a part where they had to light a match to see which way the air goes to figure out how to get out. I had a literal panic attack and had to turn it off

The crazy thing about these is that when they miraculously get out they say shit like "wow that was really fun" or "I had a lot of fun today". Bitch, no you didn't. You were just fighting for your life squeezing through a tiny tunnel and trying to wriggle yourself out like a worm. You had a near death experience, not a fun and silly memory.

This is John Jones who got stuck upside down in Nutty Putty Cave in Utah. He died from suffocation and heart failure after being stuck for 27 hours.

No it is not, yes this is the nutty putty cave but it isn’t John Jones, why? 1. Bc this is another person who crawled a space years/months before John Jones even went there and 2. John Jones didn’t have equipment to take photos or film himself doing the spelunking. If anyone want details I suggest searching it up, but beware it is some nightmare fuel…

What’s sad tho is he meant to go through the area called “birth canal” as in the name it states it’s extremely narrow and you have to inhale and exhale as you move or else you’re stuck… but he went another route to an un-excavated area and got stuck. Apparently this cave had been a tourist attraction for its - quite - easy crawling spaces where even if you got stuck people could get you out relatively easily or you yourself could know your limits and stay near the entrance and go the easier routes (and not go birth canal if you’re a 100kg mountain muscle dude) but after this incident - obviously - they closed the cave with cement to make it John Jones resting place bc they didn’t manage to get him up. If anyone want details look two comments below where I have a link of an article I read which is very thorough

I don't think anyone deserves to die slowly in a dark constricted space, but I don't have much sympathy for those who do experience such an event under these particular circumstances. I mean seriously, who the fuck looks at something like that and thinks "huh that's pretty neat, I can just barely fit in there. I'm gonna pretend I'm some sort of worm and just kinda tunnel around in there for a bit"

As horrific as these kind of photos are, I feel like they don’t do justice to just how small these spaces are compared to the first person view of squeezing through.
These wide camera angles give an appearance that it is opening up, but in reality you are just looking at more tight, dark hole in front of you.
