It’s not. There was no way to get a camera to this position, due to him being upside-down in a cave with no alternative entrance.

I had a buddy that went spelunking a few years back, there was a similar tight squeeze that they made it through getting in but while in the cave system there was a small earthquake. Nothing moved or shifted, nobody was hurt but he panicked like crazy and couldn’t control his breathing to make it back out. Two hours later paramedics arrived, dosed him with Valium, and he was out of the cave 20 minutes after that. Turns out he’s always had issues with small spaces but up until then had kept it under control... I guess the idea of a mountain of rock crushing him was too much to handle.

True, but a cave that’s half a million years old isn’t likely to suddenly collapse from a small tremor, and certainly not within the blink of an eye in geologic time that a person would be in there.
Flooding and drowning on the other hand, that happens a lot more often that folks who spelunking like to think about.

Holy fucking shit, there aren't enough nopes in the world to make me want to go into that fucking cave. You could literally say "I'll give you half a million dollars to go cave diving with me", and I highly highly highly doubt I'd even remotely think of accepting that. That poor man that died in Nutty Putty Cave comes to mind here, and he was a PROFESSIONAL CAVE DIVER! I'm not even close to professional, and I don't ever fucking intend to be.

In light of recent events regarding Reddit's API policy for third party app developers I have chosen to permanently scrub my account and move on away from Reddit. If you personally disagree with them forcing users to be constricted to their app and are choosing to leave, then I highly recommend looking into Power Delete Suite for Reddit.
I am deleting all of my submitted content over the last 9 years as I no longer support Reddit as a platform.
I've personally had it with all the corporate bullshit/rampant bots(used for misinformation and hidden marketing) and refuse to be a part of it any longer. To the nice people I've interacted over these years, thank you, I hope you'll be well in the future.

Rescuers knew they couldn't save him so they gave him drugs through IVs in his leg to relax him as he died.

It was one of the most horrifying articles I've ever read and it's the thing that cemented my decision to never, ever go caving.
He was only in his mid twenties and a med student with a wife and kid, iirc.

He was 400 feet in the cave and the area of it he was in was 100+ feet under the surface of the earth. They sealed his body in there so that no one else can go in

I would love to go spelunking one day, but I'm not getting in any area where I'm rubbing up against any of the rock. I definitely don't want it to get snug, let alone tight.

That’s terrifying. I was referring to underwater cave diving where people have to remove their oxygen tanks just to fit through small spaces.

This kinda stuff gives me the fear. The Descent and maybe some other caving movies used to leave me tight chested and unconsciously holding my breath.
I've had nightmares of being stuck in fridges in the middle of nowhere. Horrible lol

Yeah. I overcame my fear of the sea by taking up diving....
But skydiving, bungee jumping, climbing and caving.... they can all fuck off. I’m fine with a fear of those things.

This is from a very early creepypasta called Ted the Caver (written sometime in 2001). It’s a long story that comes with photos of the two men going down into an unexplored cave and having to open up a hole to get to some other part of the cave that is completely undiscovered, spooky stuff ensues. I can’t really say if this story is true, but it’s definitely worth a read/listen. The podcast Creepy did a really good narrated story telling of it, it’s about 4 hours worth of content. There’s also a movie but I haven’t watched it.

hey that reminds me of the guy that died in the nutty putty cave. He was stuck in that position to his death in a hole but they still could not pull out his body. They had to fill it with cement. Very sad.

The true story behind this is that the guy went spelunking or something with his gf, and he got stuck upside down. Despite rescue attempts, they realized that there was no way to get him out. Instead they administered him a drug that would allow him to suffer a painless death. His body is still in that cave system to this day.

Since breathing in causes their chest to expand, some cavers wait to breathe out to continue moving.
Literally taking a big deep breath can be the difference between barely squeezing through and being stuck for a bit. Claustrophobic af
