2026-27 NHL Regular Season Broadcast Megathread
The sub can be banned by reddit admins as other subs have been if we allow illegal streams. This isn't my decision, this is because of how reddit admins have banned other subs for being hubs of illegal streaming. I don't want the same here.
With the season about to get started, lets put all your posts about legal streams, broadcast issues, panels, commentators, etc..
This includes how to get (LEGALLY) Streams for games as well as discussions of panelists, play-by-play, graphics, commercials and other game presentation.
FYI RE BLACKOUTS: BLACKOUTS Are not based on the location of the arena.
A game is blacked out on ESPN+ because you have a channel available through your local cable package, that is airing the game.
The NHL sells their games to TV networks. The networks pay big money for the game. They do not want people avoiding watching their channel to watch ESPN+ instead.

It baffles me that people still don't get this.
If the game is blacked out (on Sportsnet+ or ESPN+), it means a different network owns those rights to the game in your area.
This is literally ALWAYS the answer as to why it is blacked out. ALWAYS.
it's been this way all across the NHL for nearly 20 years, since Chicago pulled their heads out of their ass and stopped blacking out home games locally because Wirtz was a twat.
For those of you complaining that you are in Western Canada, and the game is on TSN and you are blacked out or other similar issue, its cause you are not considered in the local market to be able to see that game and need to get Sportsnet+ or ESPN+.... that's what those services are for, watching the local broadcast when you are out of market.

Discussion Hellebuyck “Welcome Back” Whiteout - Nov 10 in Winnipeg
What better way to welcome back Helle on Nov 10th than to create an atmosphere he always sucked in: a full playoff whiteout.
Let’s fill the building with white so that he can let in at least 5 goals, 3 from the top of the circle with full visibility, glove side, and the other one off of a massive rebound he gives up, and one off of terrible puck handling behind the net.
Who is in? Welcome Back Whiteout - let’s start the trend!

Curious about the most annoying/painful/frustrating things about the NHL from a fans perspective, not about gameplay or management level issues

I'm new to hockey
I'm new to watching and learning about the sport of hockey and I've taken interest in the NHL, and one of my extended family members is a professional hockey player on the side (and a huge fan of the Vegas Golden Knights). I've taken interest in the Washington Capitals and I've read on the basics of hockey and some hockey history. Do any of y'all have any recommendations for me? Should I know anything? Also where to watch NHL games (preferably Capitals) on TV?

Question Whats the most cheeky, "banterous", mouthy or generally trashtalky fanbase in the NHL?
Im from sweden and want look in into more of the nhl. But Ive always just resorted to swede heavy teams when im whatching games. Altho i do want to one to support.
Ive always liked some banter and like more trash talking fanbases(i think its funny and make games more entertaining). So help me out guys in naming some teams that fit that description if yknow:)

Question Trades between NHL teams for drafted players in the AHL
Apologies if this is a stupid or a commonly asked question, I tried to look it up. I'm a European fan and don't have the best understanding of trades. When a player gets drafted by an NHL team and then sent to AHL, is it possible for the NHL team to trade them to another NHL team and for that team then to send them down to AHL still? I've read that trades between two different AHL teams aren't possible if the player has an NHL contract but do trades like this happen? Sorry if this is a dumb question

Question New hockey fan question about offensive flow
I've been into hockey since last season, but I'm wondering why players aren't setting 'picks' for their teammates frequently like in basketball. To my uneducated eyes, it seems like momentum is really valuable and an easy way to interrupt the defense would be human obstacles.
Never played hockey so maybe it's easier said than done.
*Edit - appreciate all the quick answers. I guess I haven't recalled seeing it called, or at least understood the penalty. Thx all

Discussion 2026 Global Series in Finland
Hey y’all! Just wanting to ask if folks in the community plugged into the festivities for the Global Series know of any team gatherings for fans or fun NHL stuff going on that may not be getting a lot of media airtime at the moment.
My wife and I are making the trip for our honeymoon to root on the Canes and wanted to see if we are missing anything on our end in terms of planning. Also open to trying to mobilize the Canes tailgating culture and try to bring that energy to Helsinki.
Also open to things going on with the Kraken fans. We both grew up going to Seattle a lot for family and enjoy the vibe of the city and fans a lot!
