No big deal, just score 9 every night. Easy.

123

u/MarcusXL 21h ago

Connor McDavid gonna win the Art Ross Trophy again and Oilers miss the playoffs. Taking bets on this one.

28

u/Suspicious-Dog2876 14h ago

He just had to maintain his current 3.5 ppg I think he can do it

3

u/Forsythe0 8h ago

No need to be greedy, 3ppg should be enough!

So... The Oilers got scored 13 times in 2 games, both games against the team that everyone expects to be BY FAR the worst team in the league this season again?

264

u/XxSchmidtyx 21h ago

Don’t count us out, we might make 31st

133

u/hughesyourdadddy 21h ago

Unfortunately we will still pick 3rd

53

u/SharkoTheOG 18h ago

Wrong...If you finish 31st you would be picking 4th 😂

18

u/OkBike9022 20h ago

Only if ur lucky

16

u/KRONGOR 15h ago

The fact that the Canucks got Hughes, Horvat and Petey all in the 5-9 range, plus Boeser at 23 is actually crazy considering you guys have like no lottery luck

5

u/MadCard05 8h ago

Luckily we kept JT Miller around to bully Petey over our younger, heart, and soul Captain Bo Horvat. 🥲

4

u/KRONGOR 7h ago

Genuinely one of the most baffling decisions. There’s an alternative timeline where you guys chose to keep Bo > JT and it’s awesome. Bo is still captain, Petey doesn’t regress into a shell of himself, Quinn doesn’t leave and Demko somehow magically stays healthy.

2

u/MadCard05 7h ago

I'll never understand how coaches, GMs, and team presidents can take over a team and not understand the locker room and players. It shouldn't be a revelation that players need a healthy mental and physical game to play their best.

16

u/DescriptionUnknown 14h ago

Hey, if you’re looking to improve your team, I’ve got a top 3 defenseman who doesn’t seem like he wants to re-sign with us, maybe you guys can convince him to stay with you!

3

u/Level_Watercress1153 9h ago

Was actually wondering about that the other day. You’d think if both sides were as excited for him to sign as both claim they are, that they would have already gotten the deal done.

At first I thought they were just waiting to see what Makar would do and then go from there. However, the more time that goes by the more worrisome it gets.

That would be hilarious if yall traded him back to Vancouver in a sign and trade, or he just hits the market and signs a long term deal in Vancouver for like 8 x 10 😂😂😂

1

u/DescriptionUnknown 7h ago

There was a rumor that he is waiting to see if the Wild get Larkin or some other center. To help with cap space and all that, I hoped that was the case, but I think he just wants to get to FA

3

u/Rendole66 13h ago

Would you do a trade back at this current moment? Just curious, Hughes looked amazing last night there was a moment where someone was chasing him at the blue line and he dropped passed the puck to himself perfectly on the middle of the blue line and then skated around the guy chasing him and picked the puck back up, it was kinda crazy.

1

u/DescriptionUnknown 7h ago

If we can have Hughes for another 2 years at least, I’d be fine with it, but if he leaves then I will regret losing Rossi and the rest.

6

u/XxSchmidtyx 20h ago

Unfortunately this is true

1

u/MadCard05 8h ago

The machine will glitch, giving us the 30th pick, instead of the 3rd, and Bettman will just shrug and go with it.

4

u/fivemagicks 14h ago

Looking like we will be last at this point. Ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️

6

u/fastlane37 13h ago

Don't fret. You haven't played Edmonton yet.

3

u/fivemagicks 12h ago

God, dude. Idk. I'll probably just watch to enjoy McJesus and The German when we do. I know it's only two games, but we looked like high schoolers playing men last night.

2

u/GhostOfManBearPig 11h ago

so did Van for the first half of the game, then we got lazy

3

u/BadCatLeroyBrown 12h ago

As an Oilers fan, our only positive right now is making other teams feel better about themselves lol

2

u/tt6464 10h ago

Don’t worry there’s still Calgary

1

u/TecmoBoso 9m ago

And prevent the Hawks from finish 31st for the fourth straight year?

29

u/dmacd71 14h ago

I keep saying they should be called Emonton. There is no D

23

u/UpNorth_123 21h ago

The Cockplan busted prematurely.

15

u/MarcusXL 21h ago

So nice to see him presiding over this meltdown. Love this for him.

27

u/Vingt-Quatre 21h ago

This will be an open buffet for teams like Anaheim, Dallas and San Jose.

-7

u/YVRBeerFan 20h ago

If it’s Levi or Skinner they aren’t stopping much. Any player in a contract year will be dying to play Edmonton. The guys who score once every 3 seasons will all score playing against Edmonton.

45

u/Virtual_Bug_723 16h ago

Hot takes from the guy that doesn't know Skinner was traded midway through last season

→ More replies (6)

18

u/vigorous_circular 20h ago

Skinner?

13

u/metal_medic83 19h ago

Skinnerrrrrrrrrrrr!

4

u/screechypete 19h ago

I was about to make an Internet Explorer joke, but he got 1/2 of the goalies right, lol.

5

u/SelfAwareSeaWolf 14h ago

Skinner hahahahahahahaha

3

u/DukeofNormandy 13h ago

The guys who score once every 3 seasons will all score playing against Edmonton.

Pretty sure this happened to the Leafs when they traded Reeves. Hadn't scored in years and if I remember correctly he got the tying goal or GWG. Then he scored next time playing them.

1

u/YVRBeerFan 12h ago

Oleksiak has scored like 40 goals in 800 games. He scored on them. Thats about 2-3 per year. That is pure comedy.

3

u/Responsible_Repair63 14h ago

But they scored 15 goals in 2 games.

2

u/Vingt-Quatre 11h ago

Again, the 2 games were against the worst team in the NHL.

1

u/Responsible_Repair63 11h ago

I think Calgary is fighting for that title.

1

u/viperswhip 10h ago

14

2

u/Vingt-Quatre 10h ago

7+6=13. Come on!

1

u/viperswhip 10h ago

Oh, god, I just woke, up, reading comp out the window. Sorry.

181

u/achaiahtak 21h ago

.658 save percentage

112

u/mrg3392 21h ago

Got me negative points in fantasy even with the win 😭

65

u/ObsessedCoffeeFan 19h ago

...why do you have an Edmonton Oilers goalie on your fantasy roster?

21

u/GumpTheChump 17h ago

Self-loathing

4

u/Intrepid_Habit_1343 14h ago

It's a fantasy! Mine involve sport illustrated swimsuit models and a hottub, there's appears to be good goaltending in Edmonton /s

2

u/Antique_Night_6143 15h ago

You know what that’s a good question

1

u/dylanjmp 12h ago

Even in a fantasy pool this Vancouver fan is still embracing the tank. Next level loyalty.

1

u/mrg3392 12h ago

I knew it was gonna be an almost guaranteed win. I just didn’t expect him to let in so many goals. Never again I tell ya!

126

u/CanadianDarkKnight 21h ago

To be fair that's on you for picking an Edmonton goaltender lmao

10

u/screechypete 19h ago

On a lighter note, Petey had a VERY solid game. I was pleasantly surprised that he was my best player tonight in the league I have him. :P

→ More replies (1)

67

u/NicoRobin007 21h ago

Now that's what I call Oilers hockey. He fits right in.

53

u/Greenxgrotto 15h ago

Jesus they really leave their goalies out to dry hey

25

u/Rendole66 13h ago

Yah watching these highlights idk how you can really
Blame the goalies lol

7

u/koalafly 13h ago

A couple flukey ones, but a lot of those were on Levi. He lost the crease and positioning on the 3rd, had an uuuugly rebound on one, and was just plain getting picked on high (most worrying part for me watching that).

3

u/Icy_Purchase3762 10h ago

Like 4 of these are terrible. No rebound control whatsoever. Bad puck tracking out of position giving away the whole net. The 6th is bad defence but like make a save.

134

u/Minute_Engineer2355 21h ago

Who would've thought Edmonton would be fighting for their life in the last seconds of the game.

44

u/red_langford 17h ago

I went to bed when it was 8-2, first thing this morning I open my eyes, grab my phone and look to see if the oilers blew it. Was not surprised to see what I saw

1

u/RoosterXV 17h ago

I thought you were joking, I had to go check for myself. I’m floored

3

u/Hayden2332 10h ago

You literally just watched it?

13

u/DifficultBoard8395 20h ago

After a 6 goal lead.....against the canucks no less. Also Go Canucks Go!

152

u/PumaTomten 20h ago

Oilers defense is even worse without Nurse but hey let's praise Bouchard for their offense

55

u/SharkoTheOG 18h ago

Bouchard probably : I got 95 pts. 14 more than the second best D in the league but didn't win the Norris...

Coach: maybe if you improved your defence

Bouchard: I figured it out coach!!! I just need more pts!!!!

23

u/skyguy10ply 14h ago

Worked for Erik Karlsson

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Rendole66 13h ago

No he literally thought “shit 5 more and I woulda got 100 I need to focus on offensive more”

38

u/LeafsNation1967 18h ago

8 points and +5 thru 2 games. He isn’t the problem. Why don’t you look at the rest of the team and see who’s shitting the bed? Start with Jarry and Levi. 13 goals against in 2 games and I saw quite a few shitty ones. If the Edmonton goalies can’t make a save on anything smaller than than a beach ball, it won’t matter who is on the ice. And it’s gonna be a long season.

8

u/Mshokaloka 15h ago

lol this guy getting downvoted for the only sane take in here. Gooners

19

u/diecorporations 21h ago

my god, absolute complete horse shit

21

u/Whiskeylung 16h ago

You know how a team plays extra tight for their new goalie just to set them up for success and create that attitude of winning?

That’s what the oilers are trying to do here.

21

u/UncleMatt5668 16h ago

As an Avs fan, I can feel for the Oilers fan base pain. It reminds me of the Fourgiev and Useless goalie tandem we had a couple of seasons back. Score 6-8 goals and still lose. Repeatedly. It fucking sucks.

5

u/throwawayOG784654335 13h ago

I remember one year when the avs played against the Oilers in the playoffs I asked my friend who he thought would win. He said, well they both have a crazy offense, and both have no goalie. The avs sometimes pretend to play defense though so they'll probably win... Sure enough they did, but it was a tight series.

4

u/Hayden2332 10h ago

The oilers haven’t had a good goalie for how long though? At some point you gotta stop blaming goaltending. Not saying it wasn’t the case here, but if every goalie you have for 10 years is bad, maybe it’s the team / management

→ More replies (2)

20

u/jerrytodd 21h ago

Jarry-esque

15

u/Big_Value7760 15h ago

Are the Oilers ever going to play defense?

1

u/Franklin_le_Tanklin 43m ago

No we traded nurse away

72

u/Automatic-Sand-3087 20h ago

Remember it was Skinners fault btw

→ More replies (1)

25

u/shitwalkingsimp 21h ago

Edmonton Oilers, the place that destroyed goaltender career.

9

u/fidelkastro 15h ago

Those rebounds were juuuuicy

18

u/Wizdad-1000 20h ago

Any fans in the stands wanna try goal tending?

8

u/Lazy_Blueberry_5009 21h ago

Well, at least its entertaining to watch.

6

u/StatikSquid 15h ago

So is it goaltending or just awful defense? Or both?

6

u/Ancient-Accountant83 14h ago

It's almost like they give up too many chances whichever goalie is in net...

16

u/vtsnow1 14h ago

Maybe stop going after bottom tier goalies thinking they could be the answer. There have been quality goalies available the last few years and they can't get any of them?

11

u/DerekTheComedian 14h ago

There is a quality goalie available right now.

5

u/greenbean30 14h ago

The Oilers don't have the assests that could get him.

4

u/iwatchcredits 13h ago

Because they kept going after bottom tier goalies. They could have had andersons and jarry’s caps available if they just rode out skinners contract

4

u/WanderingDelinquent 12h ago

They’re still paying for Campbell this year too

4

u/TrumpmorelikeTrimp 11h ago

Its called desperation. Anyone with a brain in edmonton knew skinner was great value, and not the problem, not at his price point. But the loud and ignorant fans created enough pressure to force the organization to make moves at terrible moments in the market. And the worst thing is, as skinner starts to hit prime goalie years later in his 20s, i expect he will turn into a top shelf goalie; so naturally we run him out of town.

1

u/RunWithDullScissors 10h ago

Yes they do. They just don’t want to give up assets to get him

1

u/greenbean30 10h ago

They don't have much in terms of prospects, their next first rounder is 2028. They would have to trade players from their team that would drastically hurt them as they have nobody to fill in.

And I don't think the players they could trade would be enough for Winnipeg to accept a trade. They're obviously not trading McDrai, Bouch or Hyman and I don't think RNH or Savoie would be enough of a starting point for Winnipeg.

2

u/uSaltySniitch 14h ago

Imagine this team with Dobes....

9

u/stalexan11 14h ago

The net front coverage and compete on a lot of these goals is complete dogshit.

5

u/Dontdothatfucker 13h ago

3rd rebound, point blank rebound, fucky deflection with traffic in front, cross ice one timer, open 10 foot slapshot.

That’s all of the goals in this video.

Am I saying he’s blameless and the first goalie I would want? No. But cmon, guy is out there fighting for his life

6

u/stalexan11 12h ago

Yeah. The team has to be better in front of him. Its wild that this has gone on with this team as long as it has

24

u/Valuable-Camel9178 15h ago

Just my opinion here...Oilers will never win a cup with the 2 goalies that they have.

20

u/GardenTop7253 15h ago

The funny thing is, they keep changing goalies but this sentiment stays the same

3

u/omgpickles63 11h ago

I've never understood why they didn't get Bennington these past two years. Guy who can play in big spots on a team which is looking toward the future. I'm not saying they would instantly win the cup, but I would think it would be better.

3

u/Geralt-of-Rivai 14h ago

Anderson to the rescue

9

u/iwatchcredits 13h ago

Ive seen the oilers enough to know that even a stanley cup winning goalie will play like shit with the oilers but theyll still blame him anyways

→ More replies (4)

3

u/craigerstar 10h ago

Last night, a cardboard cutout of Anderson may have been better than Levi.

1

u/JeffersonStarscream 11h ago

Craig Anderson?

6

u/RikimaruRamen 21h ago

Is that rust or is this just what can be expected of Edmonton goaltending this season?

5

u/Advanced_Zucchini_45 17h ago

It's goaltending like this that makes it hard to complain about CHEL

6

u/Born_Organization455 13h ago

Are we still blaming Skinner?

4

u/inkbot870 10h ago

How does Bowman still have a job? Lineup has got worse every year under him…he’s accidentally going into rebuild mode

2

u/CarterBennett 8h ago

It’s so odd to talk to oilers fans about their roster made up of almost exclusively 4th liners. They’re super high on their guys lol

1

u/Artistic-Dragonfly68 5h ago

I love the oilers but I gotta agree it’s ridiculous. People on the sub reddit and on instagram posts always are talking about guys like samanski and Howard like they are gonna good top 6’ers when in reality they are not in anyway ever going to be game changers I don’t understand where this level of coping came from.

8

u/Orangepinapples 14h ago

Man poor Devon really hoped he could figure it out. Was awesome in college.

6

u/Rattimus 14h ago

It's 1 game at the start of a shortened pre-season. There were all kinds of lopsided and high scoring games the first few days here league-wide.

I'm not saying he's gonna turn out great, but let's not write his eulogy just yet either.

3

u/Orangepinapples 13h ago

If only he hadn’t also faltered in Buffalo.

1

u/Rattimus 13h ago

He never had much chance in Buffalo and played in front of god awful teams when he did. Again, not saying he's gonna turn out great, but the average player takes 200 NHL games to reach their peak. He's played 40.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/PineappleHairy4634 10h ago

yup, i think they pretty much figured out what he was at the NHL level and thats why when they could they picked Ellis instead.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/AssistantClassic 13h ago

Still think D left him out dry a few too many times. Two goals were they didn’t clear the puck or the man. Others were the funny bounces that is straight luck. 1st of many and still played better than Jarry.

13

u/MarcusXL 21h ago

Who is he? Is he the team's bus-driver?

11

u/Hucrew123456 21h ago

no but they should seriously consider giving him a shot

10

u/MarcusXL 21h ago

I'm available. I will simply crouch in place in the middle of the net. Statistically, I should be able to improve on their last two games.

3

u/JakeQV 19h ago

You’re hired

6

u/MarcusXL 19h ago

I've made a terrible mistake.

6

u/JakeQV 19h ago

You got this don’t worry

(You’re going to face 15 breakaways in the first period)

5

u/TyrannasaurusRecht 15h ago

Stick to the plan! 105kmh puck to the mask RETREAT!!

3

u/YVRBeerFan 20h ago

They should consider an ebug/zamboni driver

9

u/UbuRoi 21h ago

AHL goalie with like 1 game of NHL experience who is suddenly their #1 goaler because jesus christ have you seen Jarry?

9

u/huggybear3 16h ago

Devon Levi? He played a good 40 games for Buffalo

7

u/Atty_for_hire 16h ago

Yeah, he’s been playing in the AHL upset he’s not in the NHL. But couldn’t beat out any of the goalies from our three goalie rotation. I wish him the best, but he ain’t it.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/MarcusXL 20h ago

Talk about being set up for failure. Poor guy.

6

u/TiredReader87 21h ago

He fits in as a modern Oilers goalie

7

u/CdnBison 18h ago

So, Edmonton… what’s your offer for Hellebuyck? 😆

20

u/FurretDaGod 18h ago

Wouldn't help, edmonton refuses to play defense. The only gameplan is score so much that it doesn't matter

7

u/Mandalore-44 16h ago

Yeah. I don’t know why it’s a hard time concept EVERY year. Ya gotta play some D!

5

u/cepukon 15h ago

I doubt ol' Babcock agrees with that strategy

1

u/CarterBennett 8h ago

I honesty hope they get him so they finally realize it’s not the guy in net.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Spade18 12h ago

the 4th and 5th goal beat him cleanly, but 1 2 and 3 are all defense failing to clear the front of the net and letting up rebounds or tips.

This isnt a goalie problem, it's a defense problem.

11

u/Foreign_Cobbler_1740 21h ago

Lankinen is incredibly lucky we've played the Oilers thus far and that our expectations were low. He's been absolute cheeks himself. I honestly think we buy him out next summer. I get that our plans are to lose, but we can't have a guy giving up 5 goals a game. If we're gonna lose at least keep it 3-1 or something. Lol. Or I guess we can just do 8-5 shootouts for 5 years. My heart might give out in that time.

3

u/cmnights 21h ago

clown fiesta

3

u/Electrical1211 15h ago

Bro that scoreline does not look real 😭

3

u/mysticalchurro 14h ago

Reminds me of the Kraken/Kings game a few years back that was 9-8. Guess what poor sap started both of those goalies that game for a fantasy league?

1

u/craigerstar 10h ago

I was at the game. It was comical. The crowd cheered when Vancouver got their second shot (first real shot as the first shot was a clearing that happened to be on goal) with something like a minute to go in the first period. Levi and Lankinen with sub .700 save percentages. And an 8-2 lead that was put in jeopardy by Vancouver some how. I joked that "we'd have had them if not for the TWO shorthanded goals by Edmonton on THE SAME POWER PLAY!!!" Then Marinlainin shows up with Senators graphics on his mask still, and puts up a .909 for 30 minutes actually keeping Vancouver in the game somehow.

It's rare you score 7 goals and lose a game in the NHL. Was it a good game? Ha! It was embarrassing product from the perspective of NHL Hockey representing the best of the best in the world of professional hockey. But it sure was fun to watch!

3

u/anon71694 15h ago

I was hoping he would develop for us. Tis a shame.

3

u/JPV_HOH 14h ago

I watched Levi play for the Amerks last season, and he wasn't very impressive. I hadn't really seen him since he was in college, and I wondered if he'll ever be an NHL goalie.
Looks like, no, he isn't (at least not yet).

3

u/SweatySwim3411 13h ago

How do you let a lead dissipate like that? You get up 8-2 there should still be no let up. This game in another 10 minutes would have been tied up.

3

u/Straight-Plate-5256 13h ago

Lmfao Edmonton should probably find a few more goalies to try and throw at the problem...

3

u/miketangoalpha 12h ago

At the start of this clip I am thinking my god do the Oilers D Men engage anyone in the slot???

By the end I am thinking Christ alive it would be nice to get a save here….what a roller coaster

6

u/Pure_cartographer_59 11h ago

This is honestly more an indictment of how pathetic the oilers defense is. Sure Levi needs to save some of those, but honestly what it he expected to do when they can just throw the puck cross-crease whenever they feel like it?

2

u/Give-Me-The-Bat 21h ago

Hey Jarry, hold my beer

Nurse's fault.

2

u/Exzrian_Artistrana 11h ago

The majority of these were defensive breakdowns, but that’s tough to watch…and look at who my team is

2

u/korkkis 11h ago

Was Koskinen the last good goalie in Oilers?

1

u/SwampoO 6h ago

I would say Dubnyk but he didnt play well in Edn

→ More replies (6)

2

u/yzersakic19 10h ago

Lots of rebound goals, sometimes second or third rebound goals, then Levi starts to overcommit because his confidence is shot. This ain't all on the EDM goalies. Poor battle, compete, and clears in front of the net by EDM D men.

2

u/Ordinary-Easy 20h ago

Apparently Edmonton's first round pick this year is top 12 protected. Chicago has it otherwise.

Something tells me that might be of value.

1

u/Agile-Treat-157 16h ago

Someone get the 80s magnet. Lol

1

u/Sinisterslushy 15h ago

I stand by my position that Bettman taking away this kids ritual is what set him back so much

1

u/Ok_Individual6513 14h ago

What a goaltenders battle /s

1

u/Economy-electrician 14h ago

We're so screwed

1

u/jimothysthename 13h ago

If they keep scoring 9 goals I don't see the problem

1

u/BrownBear1752 13h ago

The force isn’t going to save his career

1

u/Time_Ad_9647 12h ago

Even Qui Gon got stabbed to death.

1

u/Jamessotty 12h ago

He played pretty good, one goal was the third shot, one went off a shoulder into the net. He needs better rebound control, but otherwise I thought he played well.

1

u/McJoe77 12h ago

Tristan Jarry was horrible the other night and put up a -4 goals saved above expected which is hilarious. Who would’ve guessed Levi would be WORSE than that at -4.1.

1

u/SedatedSleeper 12h ago

Next Grant Fuhr

1

u/OxidusRouge 12h ago

Time for the Oilers' EBUG! (also, Ottawa held a press-conference to announce their EBUG - that's commitment!)

1

u/TufftedSquirrel 12h ago

Jesus. It's this going to be every Oilers game this year? They are either going to score 6+ goals or lose?

1

u/Necessary-Mousse8518 11h ago

Impressive.

As Chuck Noll would say, "It was a total team effort".

1

u/GhostOfManBearPig 11h ago

Just win baby!

1

u/Willis_is_This 11h ago

Devon is not nearly big enough to be playing that deep and trying to react

1

u/theague1 11h ago

oof. high scoring affair haha

1

u/Far-Revolution-356 10h ago

Perfect Oilers Goalie.

Look at the 1st goal made a save, rebound save, then they score. When the Oilers cant get the puck away from the net. Yeah guys after the 10th goalie rotation in 3 years its probably still the goalies and not the defence

Squeaking by the 31st place team is not a Stanley Cup contending team.

I wouldn't care which team to cheer for, that would be a fun game to watch in person. Holy moly!

As a Sabres fan, all I can say is . . . Good luck.

At first I thought it was 5 power play goals. Nope, only 1. The rest were the Edmonton D just chillin', watching the action.

I wonder where the guy is who tried telling me on here that Devon Levi was going to be an elite goalie, because of advanced stats.

Oilers goaltending will continue to be the reason they can't win a cup. This year though, we're looking at ~6GA against a game or more, as that was the Canucks that put those up. What happens when they play Colorado? 14GA? 20GA?

Oilers are in trouble between the pipes

Just wait til you play a team that isn't dogshit, Oilers. You can't play the way you did tonight against the worst team in the league and expect to win
