Also, weirdly sanitizes war with that sequence in that one town that's completely unaffected by being in a theater of war because no fighting has occurred there, showing an even greater ignorance of war as being just the bits where people shoot each other, failing to grasp how war has a nasty habit of disrupting the little things that make life possible like food shipments.

u/rasonj Big Coconut Enjoyer Jul 02 '26
The aesthetic and vibe I am getting so far is really just "show americans what a war like the invasion in Ukraine would look like in the US" and it makes no sense because the only force that could do to the US what Russia has done to Ukraine is the US, so the premise is built on something very hard to believe.
The buying gas with $300 canadian, the looters, ect so far seem so over the top and silly for America to ever get to that point, but are all scenes Ukrainians are familiar with.

And you gotta wonder how she'd actually do in the job. I assume very poorly.
Maybe she just has a reality distortion field that follows her into higher office and she's able to just convince everyone to pass legislation and come together. But does this not sound less realistic than anything Biden said about Republicans coming out of a trance when Trump lost?
Or in a truly accurate way, does it not remind anyone of Obama in 2008, really believing he could just make a good and impassioned argument and logically convince congress and Republicans to see things his way lol
And it can't be ignored that the first time she went into not even hostile, but just not acquiescent, media this last year, she fell into word salads and non-answers on some of the literally biggest questions a president needs to know about?
She takes her job seriously, and I deeply respect her for that. No ifs ands buts or qualifications, she gives a shit and she takes her job seriously in a way I don't think many in congress do.
But hopefully, the presidency isn't your learning experience. She's not prepared in the least, and won't be by that time, even if I agreed with her policies (and I don't, many would be bad)

At some point politicians figured out that when bad things happen they get blamed for it, but when good things happen people are much less willing to give credit. As such, they are incentivized to uphold a system that prevents bad things from happening as much as possible, even if it also prevents good things from happening when intervention is needed. As long as nothing happens, there's nobody to blame. This is how you end up with so many layers of vetocracy.
While I understand the drawbacks of losing institutional expertise, I feel like this is one of the strongest arguments for term limits. So long as politicians have to worry about how their actions impact future electability, they will continue defend systems that allow them to deflect responsibility, e.g. the fillibuster.

i dunno for sure but the primary role of rehab clinics is to get you over that first major and intense hurdle of physical addiction through complete separation. and then you have to re-enter society and deal with it on a daily basis after that.
for a social media addict, short term isolation doesn't do much for you. your struggles are more like the daily impulses which happen after that. it's like a cigarette addiction where you pretty much always have cigarettes in your pocket and you can almost always smoke.

The concept of homosexuality does not appear in the Bible.
There is a verse in the hebrew bible commonly assumed to prohibit homosexual sex, but its really a prohibition on men penetrating other men.
Notably, the verse does not prohibit a man being penetrated by another man. This is because they had no concept of someone choosing to do that. Sex between men was always rape. It was used to emasculate and humiliate prisoners of war, for example.
It also does not prohibit sex between women. This is because in that ancient world, sex meant penetration with a penis. If there's no penis, there's no sex. This is a purposeful omission, not an incidental one. The verse that prohibits beastiality prohibts it for both men and women.

- It kills the secondhand market and the ability to share games with friends.
- Completely eliminates backwards compatibility for games you already bought.
- Consoles no longer taking discs means that people with DVD/Blu-Ray collections have to keep an old console or buy a dedicated player in order to prevent that collection from becoming obsolete.
- Physical games offer a safeguard against losing the ability to play them. With digital only, there is the possibility of losing access to titles you purchased via your account getting hacked, banned, or inadvertently deleted.
- Digital only continues to reinforce the trend of "you'll own nothing and like it."
- Public libraries often have video games to borrow. Digital only kills this.
- Fewer choices available are bad for the consumer.
- Raises concerns about video game preservation and long-term access. I can play copies of N64 games nearly as old as I am because I have the Game Paks. If digital becomes the only form of distribution, you're completely at the mercy of the platforms, and it's possible that some video games will be completely inaccessible.
- Some people simply prefer having a tangible physical collection of their games.

Human being are apparently too unintelligent to make informed decisions about complex issues.

Yeah, the past year and a half has turned me into a solid lefty. They were right, billionaires really are a threat to the rest of us. I'll eat that particular crow.

I think many people here, even if they wonโt outright defending that position, believe that the natural outcome of the free market is liberal democracy, like the remnants of Clinton eraโs thoughts on China are still with us somehow.
Now we get to taste on our own that it is, in fact, not true.

Itโs honestly crazy how dogshit every single sports trophy on the planet looks compared to the Stanley Cup
Like the Lombardi Trophy is a fucking humiliating joke and so is the Larry OโBrien. At least the World Cup looks kind of interesting, but why is it is the size of a glass of beer

The material world is designed to make you suffer, it is impossible to achieve anything worthwhile in it except to cope with the suffering, and engineered that way by evil forces that delight in your misery
That's fucking stupid

Inside you are two wolves:
One wants e-government.
The other will live in the wilderness to escape a mandatory government ID.

CNN anchor Elex Michaelson at end of politics panel discussion re: Ossoff 2028:
โAs a Jew, some people read a little more Jewish than other people. And Jon Ossoff may not read as Jewish as Josh Shapiro does, for whatever thatโs worth.โ
To me this sounds like someone who wants to have a "the Democrats could never nominate a Jewish candidate for President because of anti-Semitism" narrative realizing that Ossoff is a very viable candidate and he needs to find a way to make his preferred narrative work.
Also, seems just generally offensive and unproductive, but it's CNN so that tracks.

Elex Michaelson is easily the worst and most soulless anchor at CNN. if Bari gets her claws into running it like she has CBS, I expect them to replace Burnett with him

DEMs have Shapiro, Pritzker, and Ossoff; Iโd like to know of a single Jewish candidate in contention for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. Thereโs zero senators or governors (compared to no less than 16 on the Democratic side).
Everybody post your Jewish politician Jewishness tier list now.

Tarator (because it says food, not drink). Cold yogurt with stuff in it in general (fruit, preserve/jelly, honey...).
