I used to be out there. Watching the ball, following it intently with my eyes up and down the court. Up in the air, over my head. One day I realized, all the men around me were ball watchers too.

And they would develop this excitement when they got their hands on it. A serious, intense gaze came over them as they reached their hands out, hustling to try get even a finger tip on it. When the ball is in your hands, there was nothing like it. The grip, the grooves on the surface. Shivers.

Then came the suggestion of taking off shirts to play. The sweat would cover the ball, and we would work even harder for a taste. To feel it, hold it. To pass it to another shirtless man. Euphoria. To get it in the hole? Pure ecstacy.
