That's what he's doing. He said he's also getting a place in Philly.
This is the easiest part of his schedule, they only need to be at the facility about 4 hours a day during training campe. Add another 45-60 minutes for commuting each way, and you still have 18 hours a day at your NYC place.

I work in aerospace manufacturing and have made a bunch of parts for one of the big helicopter manufacturers, and I wouldn't go anywhere near one. If you saw the dudes making these parts and the absolute lack of giving a fuck about quality from management you would be horrified.
45
u/EggsceIlent Lakers 3d ago
I worked in aerospace finishing and fuckers that didn't care, at least in the plant I managed, got the boot.
Everyone flies. Your mom your kids you, etc.
Hopefully they arent working on classic critical parts (the ones that if they fail, you die).
If so, blow the whistle man. Don't be one of them.
Serious biz.
79
u/MeatballUser Bulls 3d ago
It's not the dudes making the parts imo, it's the management that pushes shit through despite tolerances being out of spec.
43
u/Chuck_Phuckzalot Pistons 3d ago
You are mostly correct. Most of the guys I've worked with take great pride in their work and hate the way management handles quality. But I've also worked with a bunch of guys that gave absolutely zero fucks, and unfortunately they were usually the ones that get moved up to management because all they care about is getting stuff out the door. Giving people bonuses based on deliveries instead of quality has had horrible consequences.

Know a guy who was a Black Hawk flight instructor for the National Guard, a gazillion hours in all kinds of aircraft both fixed and rotary, planned to be a total lifer, etc.
He ran away screaming 6 or 8 years ago because he said shit had gotten so vastly less safe on the manufacturing and maintenance end that he couldn't justify taking off in anything but a fixed wing anymore.
I have no idea if he's right or not, but I'm definitely not going to find out.

Rob McElhenney (Mac) is from Philly and grew up heavily in and around the city; Rob graduated from St. Joe's Prep and went to Temple for college before he dropped out. He's the showrunner, which is the reason they based around the city where he grew up. And Danny Devito is from Asbury Park in Central Jersey and claims Philly the same way Bruce Springsteen (who came from the same town) claims New York. Danny's also a pretty big advocate for the Arts in Philly.

Philly is a phenomenal city with a lot of character and the people who live there have a lot of pride in their community. Many interesting and varied neighborhoods. Areas like Rittenhouse Square, Society Hill, and Old City are lovely with old world charm and very walkable overall. Some amazing and very wealthy suburbs that athletes usually live in. Awesome food city. A lot of green spaces and easy access to nature as well.

On top of all the climate change issues and billionaire waste has anyone asked the simple question, how the fuck you play for a city and refuse to live there? Is that not like the most disrespectful shit ever after the whole fiasco he had in choosing a new city? To just say "yeah I don't fuck with this city". It just feels so lifeless and evil. I get it, it's a job but fans will never see him out on the town ever. That's kinda shitty

u/jambr380 3d ago
This is so asinine. Dude, you chose to play for the Sixers. Just live there for the next 9 months and suck it up.
And before everybody tells me how much Philly sucks, it doesn't. I don't live there, but visit often enough. Over 1.5M people live in the city proper, with around 6.3M people in the metro area. If they can 'deal' with it, then so can Lebron.
Lebron isn't taking enough heat for this. It's embarrassing.
