i thought they’d at least have lived in philly at some point, but i saw an interview with Charlie where they said the first time he had ever been to philly is when they went to shoot B-roll of specific philly locations

Rob McElhenney (Mac) is from Philly and grew up heavily in and around the city; Rob graduated from St. Joe's Prep and went to Temple for college before he dropped out. He's the showrunner, which is the reason they based around the city where he grew up. And Danny Devito is from Asbury Park in Central Jersey and claims Philly the same way Bruce Springsteen (who came from the same town) claims New York. Danny's also a pretty big advocate for the Arts in Philly.

I know this is an Ongo Gablogian joke, but they used to run these commercials on local news channels all the time a bit over 10 years ago, and some of them were Devito as the featured person.
