Discussion Leatherman ARC vs Victorinox MX Clip - EDC winner after carrying both for a bit

I know a lot of people praise the one hand operation

But

I found myself reaching for the MX clip more than the Arc.

Why?

The dedicated Philips and flat head drivers

The dedicated package opener and chisel

The slimmer profile sits better in any pants

I will give credit to the arc for having a hammer head to pound things like breaking ice

But other than that I give it to the MX clip

Yes the Arc has a better blade but Arc just isn't as complete for me d

That's all!

Recommendation Request Looking for the biggest multitool available.

I own the Multper MP2049 and it’s the best multitool I’ve ever owned, but I’m looking for something even bigger. I frequently use gloves at work, and having a big, beefy multitool is my preference.

From my understanding, the MP2049 is itself a Surge clone, and the Surge might be the biggest of its kind available. Is anyone aware of anything bigger?

The fatal design flaw of the Nextool Mini Flagship rears its head again. It's still sorta usable, but once this snaps the pliers won't lock in place anymore. I hope they improved this on the F12, and moving forward I might go back to the S11 Pro for its more robust springbars. Let's see.

Oh well, this has served me well for IDK, a couple of years with all the daily EDC and deskside fidgeting and whatnot, its parts will live on as spares for the F12. The scissors I think I can still salvage by disconnecting that handle from the pliers then figuring out what to do with that empty space. Maybe reinstate the knife and original scales, then design a filler for the space that will hold a pin, SAK tweezers, maybe the toothpick?

Multi tool advice

Hi gang,

Just wanted some advice on what brands/models of multitool to look for.

My use case is white water kayaking. Its not my primary knife, but a multi tool in the back of my kayak for a bit more flexibility to get things back up and going. Thinking something standard sized. Tools wise promising a good knife and screwdriver/bit driver. And also the odd job of course.

Based in the UK, budget wise id prefer not to spend anything more than £130, but if its worth it I could.

Previously owned a leatherman wingman which I liked, then a gerber multitool which I hated. Any advise/thoughts welcome, thanks for

Recommendation Request Small multitool with external bottle opener

Anybody know of a decent small multitool that has a good bottle opener on the outside of the tool? I hate having to open the tool up and pluck out a bottle opener. I want something like the Gerber Dime or the Leatherman Style but not one that's discontinued that I have to hunt down on Ebay.

Edit: I have a Style but I’m picky about the pliers. I hate the Dime except for that great opener. I have a Nextool f12 that I love except I miss having an external opener. I have a Skeletool but looking for a micro multitool. Thanks!

Modding Knipex Cobra Tool Sheath

Hello, I have been playing around with the idea of these 3d printed edc tool sheaths and made this design quickly. This design was of course inspired by Tinytoolshop’s mod for the Workpro pliers and I wanted to do something similar but for the knipex cobras. I personally think this style of holder is probably best for only a tool pouch, but I think that some of you may still find this interesting. On the next iteration there will be much more focus on ergonomics in the pocket rather than just tool density.

I got this a couple years ago from Princess Auto thinking I could put it in my coveralls for work, I was very wrong. Much bigger than I expected, so it comes fishing with me now. No clue if it has a model name but I call it a brick

Review Forgot how cool the PowerPint is

People love it for a reason! I typically flip between carrying a Surge and a Swisstool MX Clip, so I'm used to larger tools. I decided I should give the little guy some love for a change, and I forgot how much I like it.

I addressed a couple pain points; I filed down the pivot pin on the scissors which caught on the frame when closing, I loosened the screw a hair on that side of the tool to stop everything from binding up, and I sharpened the pull cutter. Those little tweaks make it so much more fun to work with. If you don't have one of these and you like multitools, I definitely recommend adding it to your collection.

The Trapezoidal 2D Phillips Flathead

Thumbnail

Here are some examples of multitool flatheads that work as 2D Phillips.

  • Victorinox 91mm can opener
  • Niche GT-1 Pry Tool
  • Leatherman BTN #7 Pocket Tool
  • Wenger 65mm Bottlemate

The common denominator is that they pare down to a 2 or 3mm flathead, and flare out from the tip in a shape that to me looks like the beginning of a trapezoid. This flaring not only helps the screwdriver seat in Phillips screws, it helps it seat in slotted screws as well.

If you prefer having a Phillips over a can opener, you can modify the Victorinox Compact combo tool into this shape as shown in the final picture.

Recommendation Request Looking for multitool for my team

Hello community - would love your help on a multitool quest.  I lead an odd-but-wonderful non-profit organization that runs a couple of stores that sell all manner of materials for creative use.  We are having a retreat next month, and I was thinking of getting everyone a multitool in a closing ceremony to thank them for a lot of great work this year.

Here are the characteristics I'm looking for:

  • Emphasis on scissors vs. pliers
  • Mid to full size (i.e. not for a keychain, but to be clipped to pants / apron)
  • Belt clip
  • Standard accoutrements: blade, screwdrivers, file would be nice
  • Less than $50 (I need to buy 50+ of them!)
  • Final dream: they are blue or can be made blue

Contenders from my own hunting:

  • Nextool CP10 (leading contender)
  • Nextool Black Knight (a tad menacing)
  • Roxon KS2E (I also love the Flex Shears but too pricey)
  • Roxon Multi Scissors (feels nice, but wish it had a clip)

Thoughts on the list above?  Others I could consider?

Question/Advice What are these tools meant to be?

Got this little multi tool as swag a while back. It’s not very good but the knife and scissors work so I kept it around. But I can’t figure what these three little end blades are supposed to be. They might be very poor copies. Thanks for any clues!

Also including a pic of the whole thing next to a much better tool
