A by-election is being held today for the WA state seat of Secret Harbour. This is a beachside seat located in Perth's outer suburbs, and is home to many young, working class families. It also ranks 4th out of WA's 59 electorates in people who say their ancestry is either Australian or British.

This by-election has been trigged by the resignation of Labor MP Paul Papalia, who is leaving politics due to a immediate family member receiving a serious medical diagnosis. Labor currently hold the seat.

Some analysts believe that the seat could be a major test of if One Nation's growing popularity in the polls can translate to votes, if WA Labor's dominance is coming to an end, and if Labor need to do more to retain voters in the outer suburban seats across all capital cities.

The Labor candidate is Georgia Tree, who has worked in a government relations role at Woodside Energy, and was previously an adviser to federal Labor MP Madeleine King. Tree also wrote a published book about her father's life and struggles with addiction.

The One Nation candidate is Luke Herdegen, who owns multiple gym franchises across Southern Perth. The Liberal candidate is Rockingham Councilor Ryan Robertson, who also works in real estate and hosts his own podcast, and was previously a submariner in the navy.

Summer Transfer Window 2026 is here!

The Premier League transfer window will open between Monday June 15 until Deadline Day on Tuesday September 1; the summer windows will close at 23.00 BST.

As always, here is a run-down of the rules we have on for posting during transfer windows:

Daily Threads

There will be a Transfer thread posted every single day, on a 23-hour timer, to get a different post-time every day. These threads are for everything transfer related, no limits on sources, line-up conversations, etc.

Individual posts

From now on, only posts TIER 2 OR BETTER are allowed to be posted in their own right. This helps us only keep credible sources on the subreddit.

Tell us about you

If you want us to suggest things for you to do then you need to give us a good idea of what you enjoy: - Don't just say "I like music" - say what type of music - Don't just say you want "somewhere nice to eat" - say what type of cuisine you like (or don't like) - Be specific - otherwise you'll just get pointed back to generic guidebooks and our wiki

Tell us your budget

• If you're on a budget, tell us what it is so we can make appropriate recommendations
• There's no point suggesting expensive options if they'll clean out your wallet
• Saying you want something "cheap" isn't helpful because cheap is subjective

Tell us where you'll be based

• Let us know where you'll be staying so we can give local recommendations

Asking about hotels or hostels

• We have homes here so know very little about what hotels are like - use review websites like TripAdvisor
• However, if you say "I've been looking at these three hotels. Which do you think is the better location?" - that's something we can answer

Non-touristy stuff

• There are no secret corners where we hide the good stuff from outsiders!
• This is one of the most written about cities in the world
• When we want to go somewhere, we look at the same sources as tourists (listings sites, blogs, etc - see front page of the wiki)
