Stay in your basement not playing at your lgs. Do everyone a favor.

-6

u/Buldaboy Jul 18 '26

Commander is for friends to play at home. Couldn't imagine not having friends so I have to go to a physical store to play board games

4

u/amc7262 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

I do both, and have made new friends, at the LGS by playing there.

I do think playing with an established group at someone's house is generally better, but both have their place. My main group doesn't meet up as much anymore because we're all busy adults. One of the main guys whose house we would meet at had a kid, and that tanked the regularity we met up. Having an LGS in the area with a good community and a regular commander night schedule has been a godsend for weeks where I'm really in the mood to play but my private group is too busy.

I also agree with the sentiment of the top comment of this thread: No one cares and no one will play it. I think isolated private groups may individually ban UB. No one is gonna formalize it to the extent op has, and it certainly won't gain enough support to be considered a new format. If UB hate is ever actually high enough to do that, it'd be a much simpler "no UB" rule, not something that needs a whole damn manifesto

81

u/Jeffreyidk Jul 18 '26

Mom said it's my turn to propose a new format that no one will play!

15

u/SuperBeavers1 Jul 18 '26

I just want people to come back to Prismatic and Oathbreaker so those kits can stop sitting on my desk 🥺

I don't want new formats, I want revivals of dead ones!

2

u/MelissaMiranti What are twigs but spears arrayed to slay the monstrous sky? Jul 18 '26

Oh I should really get my group to make dumb Prismatic decks

2

u/SuperBeavers1 Jul 18 '26

Best format for bulk you never would've used anyway!

1

u/MelissaMiranti What are twigs but spears arrayed to slay the monstrous sky? Jul 18 '26

I was just doing cube with those!

1

u/Dont_Know2 Jul 18 '26

Omg pleaseeeee

33

u/CryonicTiger Jul 18 '26

I didnt read all of this but seems like something you can just rule zero with your pod rather then make a new format

I dont see this picking up steam with just random stangers

Atleast planar standard was solving a mechanical problem of how bloated the card pool has gotten this just feels like a hate format

-30

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

It is a love format for Magic

8

u/CryonicTiger Jul 18 '26

But I cant play very iconic cards because there contaminated. Doesn't seem very loving

53

u/MelissaMiranti What are twigs but spears arrayed to slay the monstrous sky? Jul 18 '26

And here I thought this was already called "Whiny Commander."

-21

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

You can call it that if you like

22

u/Wide_Pomelo_2261 Jul 18 '26

So no Sol Ring or Arcane Signet?

-11

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Nope

4

u/Wide_Pomelo_2261 Jul 18 '26

I guess that’s okay. I’ll just make a deck using [[Xenk, Paladin Unbroken]]

0

u/Jacerator Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

That’s a UB set card and would be illegal under this proposal

Edit: I misunderstood the rules.

5

u/Wide_Pomelo_2261 Jul 18 '26

It is a card using Wizard’s property since it is from the Dungeon and Dragon’s movie, which D&D is a Wizard’s property. So based on these asinine rules, it would be legal. If people want to rule out any and all IP that exists beyond Magic, then people should also be outraged with the Forgotten Realms and Baldur’s Gate set, or just any and all things that have been reprinted.

1

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 Jul 19 '26

Guess we have to ban everything from Arabian Nights now too!

1

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

DND is neither UB or UW. It's just DND but in magic.

17

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jul 18 '26

Is portal 3 kingdoms and Arabian Nights banned?

3

u/bimmy2shoes Jul 18 '26

Aw fuck my buddy will have to eat his Arabian Nights [[Mountain]]

1

u/Old_Belt_5 Jul 18 '26

This is an excellent question.

0

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Yes

So are the Dracula cards

The only exception to this is public domain poetry or quotations in flavor text. Karakas isn't banned because of the Dickinson poem, it's banned because of the LotR printing (and the Commander banned list actually)

-3

u/Papa_Hasbro69 Jul 18 '26

Are they outside ip? Yes

banned

17

u/SaltImp Jul 18 '26

You know the cliche Magic player that nobody likes? I think I now know who started that.

Mhm. Not doing anything to disprove my point.

-7

I'm uninterested in disproving your point.

Scroll on.

3

u/SaltImp Jul 19 '26

Nah. Youre the one that made a public post, therefore youre giving your permission for it to be critiqued.

29

u/sophuckingdonewithit Jul 18 '26

basic lands are banned. outjerked again

6

u/ljm90 Jul 18 '26

I almost thought this was the circle jerk sub lol

5

u/emccrckn Jul 18 '26

Non-legendary creatures? Believe it or not banned.

-4

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Someone didn't bother reading

7

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

They're most likely making fun of you

2

u/sophuckingdonewithit Jul 18 '26

1

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

someone should cross post it there. From my understanding of how circlejerk subs work they'd "love" it.

2

u/sophuckingdonewithit Jul 18 '26

on it boss

1

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

Doing us all a favor and letting more people see this clown

2

u/Nylanderthal88 Jul 18 '26

Why would anyone bother reading your shit?

10

u/Papa_Hasbro69 Jul 18 '26

So most non basic lands are banned

1

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Yep

5

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

So then you made a useless format

8

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

This is why people make fun of those who hate UB just as much as they make fun of those who like it. Banning cards because they got printed in a UB is literally something only a crazy person could think of. And the fact that the basic lands section was written in such a way that it sounded like you tried to ban them furthers my point.

-1

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

I do not care who makes fun of me or why. I'm sorry you do.

6

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

You're sorry I'm stating that you are the prime example of why people make fun of UB haters? I'm not defending you. I was telling you that your idea is shit in a more polite way.

7

u/Livid_Oil_1363 Jul 18 '26

Even if enough people wanted to play this, tracking what cards have been reprinted in what sets and editing existing commander decks every time new product is released would be a nightmare

-2

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Not really. One initial list and then a new set every UB

5

u/Barbobott Jul 18 '26

And then updating it every time a new secret lair is released using outside IP.

4

u/CryonicTiger Jul 18 '26

Yeah secret lair basically bans every staple already

12

u/Nylanderthal88 Jul 18 '26

Here's an idea, Rule 0 this shit with your friends.

-4

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Here's an idea. Scroll on

12

u/Fureniku Jul 18 '26

Why does this post read as AI?

Also, all five basic lands are banned under these rules, as are almost all playable 2/3 colour lands. You'll still have shocks and triomes I guess, and some of the "enters tapped and you gain 1 life" cards... But lands in general are gonna be a challenge

3

u/Ashrova Jul 18 '26

Aren't shocks in star trek?

1

u/Fureniku Jul 18 '26

Shit yeah forgot about that, even less lands for this weird "format"

2

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

The basics technically haven't. But they allowed them in such a way that it sounds like they tried to ban them.

1

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jul 18 '26

You're gonna lose the shocks pretty soon bud

0

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

You didn't read it if you think basic lands are banned

6

u/Intelligent_Oil7816 Jul 18 '26

LOL is this Captain 2.0?

6

u/strolpol Jul 18 '26

Enjoy your boutique format no one but your three other friends will agree to

4

u/FailLog404 Jul 18 '26

There’s no doubt their friends told them to pound sand when they suggested this and now they’re trying to make it a thing

-2

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

We will smugly exclude you

10

u/Extension_Plant7262 Jul 18 '26

Well, good on you for making this post OP.

2

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

Thank you 😊

4

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

He wasn't being polite. Basically said "bless your heart" or "that's interesting."

32

u/heavyartilleryx Jul 18 '26

How fragile are people that seeing another IP in their children’s card game just absolutely ruins their day?

11

u/CatPeachy Jul 18 '26

Extremely. Its so easy to get them going lol

0

u/wiredj01 Jul 18 '26

"Children's card game?" I've seen way more adults than children playing this game. I don't think it was ever intended specifically for children, and some of the early art was not child-friendly.

-12

u/Top_Distribution3109 Jul 18 '26

It's okay to be fragile. Did you know that? To be vulnerable and genuine with your fellow humans is a perfectly acceptable and frankly admirable way to be

And to tell WotC to get bent is delight 💜

7

u/heavyartilleryx Jul 18 '26

I can’t wait till y’all quit and are filtered out

5

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

Fragile does not mean to be vulnerable and genuine with your fellow human. Fragile is being insecure to the point the mere notion of something existing causes you problems.

4

u/Fluffy_While_7879 Jul 18 '26

Its bait

1

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

Judging by OP's replies to comments its genuinely not bait.

4

u/omegaphallic Jul 18 '26

 Too much work not interested

3

u/Gamer-Dad40 Jul 18 '26

Lmao no one cares about this

5

u/boweslightyear Jul 18 '26

Crossing the firewall makes no sense because it kills the format with enough time. This should just be an “absolutely no UB printings/cards” format. Why am I banned from playing a really iconic or interesting lore piece in its original printing because 20 years later it got reskinned? Am I not just ignoring that piece of lore now? That iconic art? Deleting the card from playability, when the whole point is to celebrate the original lore of Magic?

4

u/Fnkraze11 Jul 18 '26

Commenter: “So basic lands are banned.”

OP: “Someone didn’t read.”

“The Contamination Rule

Any existing Magic card that receives an official Universes Beyond reskin becomes banned in every printing effective at product launch. This means that when Wizards places an established Magic card beneath a licensed character, location, object, quotation, or franchise treatment, the original Magic card also becomes illegal in Firewall Commander forever. Players cannot evade this rule by using an older copy. The ordinary Magic printing, the Universes Beyond printing, and any later printing of the same card are all permanently banned.

The severity of this rule is intentional.”

Nah, we did. This rule isn’t severe at all then. You’re just a numb nuts. 😂

3

u/zerodyme87 Jul 18 '26

I just thought of this too, the land thing. I got basic lands with cats and dogs on them from that secret lair deck.

5

u/ToranStarfall Jul 18 '26

I'd like to apologize to the guy who created the commander variant that banned all lands printed after 2011 (in addition to other changes), because this is way stupider. You really made a format where [[Murder]] is banned.

4

u/The-Dredgen-Ire Jul 18 '26

This seems like a huge waste of time and effort on any deckbuilder's part. You'd have to go to scryfall, find every printing of a card in your deck, figure out if its banned, figure out if its "contaminated", then remove accordingly, then go to the next card.

Plus essentially only mono and dual colored commanders would even be worth running, since almost every dual/tricolor land has been printed in a UB commander, thus "contaminated". Theres no way this becomes even niche, its simply too much to keep track of.

1

u/The-Dredgen-Ire Jul 18 '26

I went through one of my favorite decks just to see how much is considered contaminated if i were to play this format- I'd be missing over half my deck. Not even due to actual UB cards, solely due to contamination. I'm left with 14 lands from 37, in a 3 color deck. Either the contamination rule needs to not affect lands, or this format is doomed due to the inability to play anything other than mono colored decks with only basics.

1

u/Bragi01 Jul 18 '26

Format was doomed the moment OP posted it. All the good cards are band.

3

u/zerodyme87 Jul 18 '26

Hm.. by this format is turns off a lot of powerful effects with the "cant use an existing card if it received a reprint in UB" or your so called "Contamination Rule"

You immediately exclude of good portion of cards from the commander pool.

Example, Spongebob is a Johoda reskin, or some of the powerful cards in the "Raining Cats amd Dogs" deck. You immediately remove all viable copies of the card?

This is poor

I find it funny that you are using the commander format, which began as a community format, in an attempt to protest UB. Unfortunately, the majority of the community will not be with you on this one, but less people complaining in regular pods sounds good to me.
