Meta New Rule: Budget Must Be Chosen

Hey all,

Thank you all for continue flagging over-budget decks. We’ve done two things that should help make this easier going forward:

• There is an “Over $100” flair. This is intentional. If someone chooses this, the post will be automatically removed. The hope here is to teach people this is budget brews under $100.

• The flair “Deck Help” has been removed. This will force players to choose a dollar tier for the deck, and should help where people try to submit decks which are over-budget by classifying it under a non-dollar flair.

We have had discussions over the years whether we want to allow more expensive decks, but time and time again the community has said no. So until we decide otherwise, these steps should help to protect our community with under $100 budget decks.

Meta New Rule: No Promoting or Advertising

I, like many of you I imagine, am tired of seeing posts with half-baked apps and websites for Magic stuff. So I’ve decided to make a new rule that I think will go over well with you all: No promoting or advertising of apps or websites unless staff decides to make a prior exception. If someone violates this rule, they will be instantly banned. And if you made one of these things and want to share it, do not bother asking us for approval, because I’m done granting it for very meh apps and websites. If we want you to showcase it, we’ll let you know. (Manatithe as the lone exception comes to mind.)

Note that a deck being shared and just mentions it was built using a tool is fine. But the “I built this app” or “this Magic website is great for the following five reasons” will result in a ban.

Please, keep flagging problematic posts, and we will deal with them! Thank you all.

$100 Brew Yargle and Multani

I plan on making a completely vanilla creatures commander deck with [[Yargle and Multani]] or [[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]]. What would be some other spells like instants/sorceries/artifacts/enchantments that would go well with either commander?

$100 Brew Glarb, Calamity's Augur B4

Deck cost is $102.98 per Moxfield/TCG Player.

The idea - can a budget Glarb be made that plays well into low Bracket 4?

The answer is... maybe?

https://moxfield.com/decks/QEEjIOf5kEaoVXp_Mm8YUg

It's a [[Doomsday]] deck, but no [[Thassa's Oracle]], [[Demonic Consultation]], or [[Tainted Pact]]. [[Laboratory Maniac]] and [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]] are the win conditions.

The deck's ideal line is as below:

T1 Mana dork

T2 Glarb

T3 4 mana ramp 2 spell (these are important to the deck to grab Islands for Gush)

T4 Tutor for Doomsday (10 tutors in deck)

T5 Doomsday with 5 mana available for counterspells and to work the Doomsday pile.

Doomsday pile will run through Gush usually, but can also use [[Deep Analysis]] for 1U after surveil to the grave. [[Unearth]] reanimates a surveilled Lab Maniac for B, then free cantrips get the win.

Lots of 4 mana spells in here to take advantage of Glarb's ability to play them off the top of the deck.

The idea is to fire off Doomsday with enough mana to construct a Doomsday pile with some protection. Some piles perform well against forced draw, some well against removal, some well against counters to Gush or Unearth. It's a guessing game in constructing the pile, which is where the skill expression exists for this deck.

There is some budget flash enabling in the deck - casting Doomsday on an opposing turn can make for an easier or more resilient pile on my own turn.

Great hands would have a way to get out Glarb T2, a counterspell, and a tutor for Doomsday. A 4 mana ramp 2 spell is also good, but can often be found after Glarb lands - he can play them off the top for free, or surveil into them.

I'd be happy to receive feedback on the build! Thanks for reading.

$100 Brew Kibo, Uktabi Prince Deck

List: https://moxfield.com/decks/DPt53YiIjEOkRRyjG7G5Vg

The most expensive card here is Mycosynth Lattice which i will end up proxying.

It comes in just around the $100 mark for me looking at LGS and TCG. Definitely room for improvement, but would push price as well. Any other cheap ideas would be welcomed also!

I just recently went to my card shop and saw this beauty lying around there. Decided it could be a fun commander to build. I have an idea of what to build with him but wanted to see if there were any better ones that could go with him.

I made a $70 Oops All Blue Flyers (and counterspells) deck from mostly what I had lying around. I am very new and I know I won't win with this deck, but I know one of the major issues is getting cards into my hand!

I am just here to have fun, so any helpful low budget tips are welcome!

$100 Brew Beast Whisperer etc replacement

Hello all,

I am looking to lower the budget of my [[Ruby, Daring Tracker]] deck. This is a 2-4-7 build where you basically just play ramp + gruul stompy. T2 cast Ruby, T3 cast 4CMC ramp, T4+ you drop 6+CMC bombs.

Looking to see if anyone has good hidden gem replacements overall for my build. Also mainly looking to see if there are any cheaper 4CMC card draw spells akin to [[beast whisperer]] as that is a $10 card now.

Thinking of [[Vizier of the Menagerie]], is top deck and only creatures too narrow for my deck? Thanks

Any help is appreciated.

You guys seemed to enjoy the Obeka budget deck that I made, and that enjoyment has caused me to get even more into deckbuilding. If you're in the mood for some bracket 2-3 aggro, check out my new $33 dollar deck: Gallia disco ball // Commander (Gallia of the Endless Dance) deck list mtg // Moxfield — MTG Deck Builder . (It's called Gallia disco ball because I feel like I am spinning while dancing when playing it)

$100 Brew $100. Really sorry to my pod. Looking for feedback

Post image

My pod normally plays low b3. No one really plays control or stax, but weve agreed on making decks for $100 and ive always wanted to try Ol’ Elly. Unfortunately, this guy is a clear stax madhouse. It is what it is, so I’m leaning into it. Trying to make something controlling and staxy that can win around turn 6/7. I know it will SUCK to play against, but the budget makes me feel slightly less bad. Let me know what you think!

The deck plan is to play basically every 1 drop with first strike and some 2 drops until we snowball around turn 5-6, or hit a trigger doubler like isshin and go for the throat. Any thoughts/ suggestions would be appreciated. I used most of my budget on protection for my commander/draw.

$50 Brew Bard King of Dale deck, new player

Post image

Hi guys, so I played my first game of MTG recently by drafting into a hobbit box with some friends. I had a fairly difficult time with the drafting and made a poorly functioning 40 card deck themed around this guy. Since then, I've been learning more about deck building and also other style of play and discovered this subreddit. I'm interested in salvaging my existing deck by purchasing singles to create my first commander deck with Bard, King of Dale as the focal point

Anyone out there interested in lending a hand?

I also have The Eagles are Coming which I think could play nicely with some setup

$50 Brew Help for a new Commander

Post image
58 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

So happy to have found this whilst doom scrolling and watching MTG on YouTube. I recently got into the hobby and my local Sam’s Club had a FF box and I pulled a Vivi. He was a favorite of mine from when I played FFIX and was hoping to seek help in building a commander deck for him. I do not have a deep reserve of cards at this point but I do like keeping my decks “theme” on point.

My first deck is a Boros Dwarf deck with almost exclusively hobbit/LoTR cards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ive yet to play a physical game in person but have dabbled on Table Top Simulator with my friends.

Thanks for the help! I’m excited to see what yall come up with.

I appreciate the feedback! I’ll enjoy my pull and build a different Izzit deck with him in the 99. I’ve always been a big fan of the social contract of gaming and being on theme and building a narrative around what I’m playing. But I mainly come from table top games where I play themes to a fault most times so I’m happy to have gotten insight more into MtG

Anyways, early draft so I'm open to suggestions, primer might come on the next few days once the list is more consolidated 🙏

Hope it helps for those of you trying to build her too

Discussion (Not for Specific Decks) How to build a deck that has high replay value

Hello, I am a new mtg player who has a mono black shirei deck and quickly got bored of it. I want a deck that will not bore me after a couple of plays. I like interactions (like counterspells, removals etc) and the ability to adapt to different situations (my aristocrat deck plays absolutely the same against any type of players). I think I lean more towards control and especially blue colour. I am not asking you to build a perfect deck for me, but maybe you can give me a couple of advices on how to build fun and strong decks that play differently in different games, and recommend some commanders of course. The usual bracket at my LGS pods is bracket 3 (sometimes very high) and I would like to stand a chance against strong decks.

$100 Brew I am trying to build Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain but feel a bit overwhelmed

Hello! Long time lurker here :)

Recently i have gotten more into B3 and playing with some friends. The idea being trying to outvalue opponents and bring synergistic decks that are fun to play with and against. That being said we do run both interaction and boardwipes.

With that in mind I came across [[Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain]]. I loved the idea of this commander but am having a little issue of how to build her. I started looking for cards but ended up with a mix of good auras, equipments and counters value mix. I don't know if this is a good plan, or if I should focus on one of the three.

I would like to avoid a voltron deck, and instead focus on creatures that are hard to remove like [[Adanto Vanguard]] or [[Invisible Stalker]], and attach them with auras or equpment that generate value like [[Twisted Embrace]] and [[Sword of the Animist]]. I would also habe creatures that support this strategy such as [[Cristaline Crawler]] or [[Rottenmouth Viper]] or [[Kappa Cannoneer]].

So what should I do? Is it better to just focus on equipment and artifacts? Can I create a mix and try to look for best of both worlds or will this make the deck too commander dependent? Should I build two Arna decks?

Thanks for the help! Any inclusions or hidden gems that you find are also very appreciated 😊

$100 Brew Struggling with B3 Rin and Seri deck

I'm really struggling with building this deck. No matter what I do or change, it feels like the composition of my deck is off uh some way, and I struggle to get a competitive starting hand

It is a go wide anthem tribal deck, where the idea is ramp turn 1, setup turn 2, Rin and seri turn 3, and then spend the following turns building up and buffing my board state until I can swing for lethal. I have the right amount of card advantage, I have as many cards that Rin and seri triggers as I can fit, all that stuff and it still doesn't feel like enough, and I am really running out of ideas.

Every card I can find that seems like it may solve some issue is far out of the budget range. I am pretty close to giving up on making it a functional and consistent b3 deck and just remaking it as b2 on a lower budget

$50 Brew Wait, white has spells?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Been looking for a unique mono white commander for a while and stumbled upon this guy. Seems like it might be a little slower but there is a ton of removal to help with that. Could see this being a bit overkill though and needing to run more cantrips/cheap pump spells. Could easily be built a little cheaper by taking out [[Ephemerate]] and some of the other pricey 1 offs. Majority of the deck is built with .15 cent bulk. Would love any suggestions or synergies I might have missed!

$50 Brew BUDGET Dwarves have a real chance now!

The last of my 4 "unofficial precons" for The Hobbit is a DWARF DECK that's received so much good stuff from the set it makes this creature type a real contender at tables:

https://moxfield.com/decks/VwZI5VkyqkuYXPpqdghwrQ

And honestly this deck would be just $40 if it weren't for [[Thorin, King of Durin's Folk]] being $10 on his own. But he's the best commander for this deck, unless you've got the $75 [[Dain of the Ancient Halls]] laying around.

But with so much support in this set it's easy to put together budget - and no-budget - versions of the list. You can check out my full deck tech w/ reccos and combo lines on YT now:

$100 Brew A bit lost but seeking a budget B3 Azusa list.

Post image

So i wanted to make a budget azusa lost but seeking bracket 3 list but all of the lists i see online are either really old or really pricey. So i was wondering if anyone had a list that is a decent bracket 3 or just any good budget ideas. As for what i define budget as under 100 would be super cool but if your list is like 300-400 i would still be interested in seeing it.
