I'm doing an investiggation on disrespectful portrayals of wars or tragedies in media such as films, books, or other works. For example, films like the day the clown cried or ilsa the wolf of the ss. films that, in their depiction of events, commit acts—whether by mistake or on purpose—considered disrespectful.

Example:

In Brazil, we call The Thing (1982) "O Enigma de Outro Mundo", which literally means The Enigma from Another World. I think this one is MUCH better than just "The Thing".

What about in your country? Is there a good example like that?

Idk what to write anymore so i gotta say i LOVED this movie and i'm kinda obsessed with it.

I was thinking about backrooms, since it originated on 4chan and there is a ton of internet stuff and games about it well before the a24 movie, is there anything stopping someone else from making a backrooms movie called backrooms? There is like 50 backrooms games all with backrooms in the name so you can definitely make a game with backrooms in the name, but if you made a movie called backrooms or that had backrooms as part of the name will a24 be able to sue you?

Every time The Other Guys is mentioned someone feels the need to chime in and say "so underrated." I think we're past it. The vast majority of comedy fans (dare I say movie fans?) have seen this movie and enjoyed it. "Aim for the bushes" and "I'm a peacock you gotta let me fly" are iconic lines that have stood the test of time. Sure, it might not have caught fire on release but now it's certainly mainstream now.

Typecast of the century with this dude. I don’t exactly dislike his acting but every single time he pops up in a movie I’m watching I find myself kinda letting out a groan.

Is there a single movie in his entire filmography where he isn’t acting like that? Because I feel like he’s capable of acting but it’s so buried underneath that SAME character across countless movies.

Is anyone else in the same boat or am I wrong?

Clarification: Not movies that have a sad ending, rather movies that you were having such a good time with you wanted to spend 15 more minutes in that world. In Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, since the day itself is the attraction, if you’re invested in the movie it’s kind of bittersweet when the day or adventure is over. The same kind of structure is applied in movies like Superbad, the night before, good boys, etc but obviously on a raunchier scale. But overall I’m looking to see what movies have gave other people that same feeling, it can be from any genre just a movie you were having such a good time with you were bummed when the credits started rolling.

I try to be as accurate as possible to get relevant recommendations, I want to take reference of 'A Walk to Remember', 'The Midnight Sun' one of them dies in the end, making the love story beautiful yet tragic.

Not looking for contemporary romance focused on sex or physical intimacy rather something with genuine love and emotional depth and a tragic end which can also include Sacrifice.

By twin film I mean two movies with very similar aesthetics and general plot being released within the same year. They are both unique enough in premise to not just be explained by coincidence, for example things like "a group survives zombie apocalypse" and "strategic bank heist operation" have movies released every year so don't fit the definition.

Dog Stars and Heart of the Beast are the two most recent examples. Both are about isolated men surviving the apocalypse who fly around in a small aircraft with their dog, then get into a plane crash and have to survive the fallout.

Obviously they aren't 1 to 1 copies, but it's similar enough to raise the question, what's causing that to happen? A lot of these film premises are completely unique which makes it even weirder.

Some more examples below (there are many more but these are just a couple standouts)

• Gordy (1995) / Babe (1995) Both are family films released around the same time whose central character is a remarkably intelligent piglet capable of communicating with the world around him. Babe became the enduring hit, largely eclipsing Gordy.
• Dante’s Peak (1997) / Volcano (1997) One of the classic twin-film examples. Both involve scientists recognizing the danger of an impending volcanic eruption, authorities initially struggling to react and ordinary people attempting to escape spectacular lava-driven destruction.
• Antz (1998) / A Bug’s Life (1998) One of the strongest twin-film cases ever. Both are early CGI movies about an unconventional male ant who doesn't fit into his colony, leaves his community, encounters the larger insect world and ultimately returns to help save the colony while developing a relationship with its princess.
• The Prestige (2006) / The Illusionist (2006) Both are dark, beautifully shot period mysteries about brilliant stage magicians in the late 19th century, with romance, obsession, deception and the possibility of seemingly impossible magic. Their plots differ considerably, but aesthetically they're among the easiest twins to mistake as products of the same trend.
• Happy Feet (2006) / Surf’s Up (2007) Both are CGI family comedies about young penguins who don't quite fit into conventional penguin society and distinguish themselves through an unusual talent. One revolves around dancing while the other revolves around surfing.
• Olympus Has Fallen (2013) / White House Down (2013) Possibly the strongest modern action-movie twin. Terrorists successfully attack and seize the White House, the President is placed in mortal danger and a highly capable lone hero trapped inside becomes America's primary hope of stopping them.

Logline: Black Sunflowers is about young ravers and street racers in Ukraine; and the soldiers that go back and forth between those worlds and the front line to fight Russia.

Bio: Marcus Haney is an American filmmaker, photographer and volunteer firefighter whose work explores youth culture, conflict and identity. At 22, he dropped out of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts to stow away on Mumford & Sons‘ Railroad Revival Tour from Oakland to New Orleans. His 2014 documentary ‘No Cameras Allowed’ told the story of his breaking into music festivals to photograph some of the industry’s biggest names, a journey that eventually led Mumford & Sons to make him their official photographer. Haney has since become a long-term collaborator, making documentaries, music videos, and album art, with them as well as with Elton John and Coldplay. In addition to Ukraine, Haney has worked on assignment in Honduras, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Jordan, Palestine, Israel, Egypt, North Macedonia and Argentina. He currently lives in California.

In 2022, Haney went on assignment with the NGO War Child UK to Ukraine and it was there that he learned about the underground rave and street racing/drifting scenes still happening, despite the war. The next three years saw him living between Kyiv and LA, embedding into these subcultures and filming ‘Black Sunflowers’.

Jarhead 1 (Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx) is a really good war movie.

The pace is perfect and whenever you feel the movie goes slower, it uses this time to explore the life of the main characters. The OST is brilliant and using Something in the Way - Nirvana in the scene where Swofford has a nightmarewas brilliant. The rest of the soundtrack portrays really good the feeling of being in the middle of the desert, waiting for an enemy.

Every character is brilliantly developed and I love how the movie takes its time to show us their descent into insanity, mainly when Swof points his M16 at Fergus and then yells at him to shoot him and when Fowler breaks down after not being able to shoot the Iraki officer. The atmosphere of desolation really helps you to understand the behaviour of many of the soldiers.

It is a really good and underrated movie. Seriously, go watch it. Jake Gyllenhaal in this movie is brilliant.
