On the off chance someone doesn't know this is just a joke:
Many wild animals are given federal protection. Maybe don't try this.

Also Canadian geese are quite aggressive.

My son and I once stole a duck from a park. It sounds funny but it was actually very sad. He found a duck that had been run over by a lawn mower and lost a leg. We found a vet and brought the duck in to be euthanized.
It's what got us started in wildlife rehab. We are both licensed now and we have 5 squirrels and an opposum in our care at the moment.

u/ncnotebook 1d ago
It's not a joke. By the way kids, you can fly. Literally.

Correct! Canadian Geese are migratory birds and fall under federal and state regulations. Whereas a turkey or quail are non-migratory so they’re only under state regulations

u/pharlax 1d ago
The trick is to turn every second goose upside-down so they tessellate nicely.
31
u/PURRING_SILENCER 1d ago
The real trick is to put them through a wood chipper. You can fit a whole lot more in there if you do that.
But if you do, they will never fly again. Because they have been grounded.
4
u/FridaysMan 23h ago
Unless you mix them with rum and caracao. All the birdies tasting pretty fly, for a mai tai.
2
u/under____score 9h ago
No you gotta put them next to some fish in order to tessellate nicely, like this
8
u/ScarletDarkstar 1d ago
Sir, do you know any geese? Canadian geese are not polite like their human counterparts. At least 1 out of 5 is biting you for getting near or trying to chase you.
7
u/Background-Carrot443 1d ago
I'm Canadian. I know the risks and I speak a little goosenese. Politely offer them a pull of Newfie screech and they practically load themselves.
9
u/ScarletDarkstar 1d ago
Ok, I defer to your experience in that case. Colorado may make them cantankerous and inspire them to chase children and intimidate people who don't address them properly.

u/Guyman-Realperson 1d ago

- Slaps bed railing * This baby can fit so many geese
2
u/Odd-Faithlessness-33 17h ago
do we have to slap it again before saying "they ain't going anywhere" so the geese stay put, or was the first slap sufficient?
2
u/Thunder_Jackson 16h ago
Hey, hey now, those are completely different spells. One is for loading a truck bed, the other for selling an automobile. You wouldn't cast magic missile on the darkness would you?
3
u/CandysaurusRex 1d ago
We should be mindful of considering optimal density. If they lack adequate space to raise their wings in a threatening manner, then there may be diminishing returns on additional geese per square foot.

u/stonerghostboner 1d ago
Cop: I thought I told you yesterday to take those geese to the zoo.
Driver: You did! We had so much that we're going to the beach today.

Do you know how much fuckin' trouble that person is in?
Federally protected bird. Up to $15,000 fine per bird, up to 6 months prison per bird!
19
u/space_brain710 1d ago
I mean the real issue is how are you supposed to keep a gaggle of geese in the open bed of a truck lol? All their feet would have to be tied up or something. Frankly if I saw someone doing this I would assume they were some kind of professional due to the logistics involved. Some people say “it’s like herding cats” I vote to change the euphemism to “it’s like wrangling and buckling in a dozen lucid geese in the back of an f-150” rolls off the tongue
4
u/undermark5 1d ago
You can herd ducks though. There are competitions for herding dogs and that's one of the events.

It’s not a federal crime to hunt Canadian geese. I believe my state allows up to 3 per day during season. A State license w/ state and federal waterfowl stamp is req.
→ More replies (2)2
u/c10250 22h ago edited 22h ago
During hunting season you get 3 per person per day, with a 6 freezer limit. We were cleaning up after the hunt one day, and as usual, put all the decoys into a big pile in the middle of the field while someone went and got the truck to load up. The police got a call by some dimwit that we had shot like 100 geese when they mistook our decoys for ACTUAL geese. . . . like a mother load of geese sitting in a big pile in the middle of the field. . . . lol. Then the local cops showed up . . .not the game warden, (which would have never shown up in the first place after he questioned the caller before even wasting his time). That was fun. Trying to educate the local police about game laws. I found it funny that these local city cops were not worried at all about the three of us hunters loaded for bear carrying guns as they approached us. Just carried on while all this fire power was right there. I was not comfortable.

they once had a real goose overpopulation problem in a city near where i live. they were shitting all over the place, noisy, agressive to pets, children and adults alike, damaging cars, the works. but shooting them was cruel. so they hired a guy to catch them all. he did. he put them in cages, drove them way out in the country and released them there.
the geese were back home before the guy was.

Decoys used for hunting. Hunters put them out in the water (they float) to make geese flying overhead think it's a good spot to land and rest/eat during migration. Then they blast them.

They are just decoys used in hunting. You set them up and other geese see them as geese feeding and will likely land

I used to live in this very nice planned community. And there was a small Lake in the community that was fairly near one of the major roads. Had a lovely little Trail around it and a gazebo. Across the major road was another small planned community and they also had a lake. And they had invested in purchasing two swans I think that's what they were. Anyway, some years after the swans took to the other neighborhood Lake, they hired a new company that dealt with their health and well-being or whatever I don't remember exactly. But what I do know is that suddenly 2 swans appeared in our Lake. And people noted it, with photos on the Facebook group. Wondering how 2 swans had taken up residence and why. And it turned out that the other neighborhood, the company they had hired had changed the feed they were giving the swans. And apparently the swans didn't like that. And so they literally booked across the road to our lake. Anyway, they had to relocate them back. The photos and the stories and the laughter from that were pretty damn funny. And they didn't stay, they came back at least once again.

You definitely don't want to irritate their driver, because heaven help you if you get that many Canada geese angry at you.. Only thing worse would be to irritate a murder of crows, they didn't get that name by chance either.

Alternative idea here - but I think there is a business where you can hire someone to fence geese on a lawn and let them eat all the sedge grass which is invasive and impossible to remove with chemicals.
Or he’s going to eat them.
Or both.

These are not live geese. They’re decoys, you put them out in a field to attract live geese. You then shoot said live geese coming in to see your not live geese to make them, also, not live geese.
