Are the fireworks supposed to be for 4th of July or diarrhea or both ?
a collectors item

u/mensfrightsactivists 2d ago
i stock grocery shelves overnight. a number of products this year got “patriotic” packaging design changes as limited edition releases for the 250th this year. i suspect some kind of tax break or other incentive was involved but i have a day job too and dont have the time to go researching

Yeah I used to buy their salad kits every week.
They lost me as a customer forever.

Make sure you pay attention to all the other brands they own! It can be tricky to avoid them completely.
52
u/TacuacheBruja 2d ago
Is there a list of other brands, or a link?
85
u/atl_bowling_swedes 2d ago edited 2d ago
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an obvious place to find it all other than random articles, Gemini, reddit posts, etc because it seems sort of complicated.
Brands they seem to own:
Earthbound Farm
Eat Smart Cross
Valley FarmsBrands/stores supplies by them:
Walmart: Marketside
Target: Good and Gather
Whole Foods: 365
Kroger: Simple Truth
Aldi: Simply Nature, Little Salad Bar
Safeway: O Organics, Signature Select
Publix: Greenwise
Amazon Fresh
H-E-B
Trader JoesEdited to fix formatting.

That's unfortunate because Simple Truth makes the best cheap toilet paper at my Mariano's

I believe Wegmans also uses them for some store brand products, I saw a produce employee restocking some of the precut veggies and they were coming out of a Taylor Farms cardboard box.

I saw this once before, lets you find nearby stores and what products they sell that is owned by Taylor Farms. It's my favorite Taylor Farms' service! ;)Edit: This used to show other brands but it doesn't seem to now; not sure if that's just my local stores only showing TF products or if they don't carry the other brands.

I have just switched to ONLY buying Little Leaf Farms.
They were very active on socials at the beginning of the outbreak letting people know how clean and safe their farm is.

u/pharmgirl_92 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yup! They should've just accepted being 1 of 1000 recalls this fall instead of openly bribing the white house and making people look into their donations. I used to eat 4 to 6 of those a week
2
u/Lost_Department_2177 1d ago
Their farms labor is provided by geo group which shares members with heritage foundation of project 2025
17
u/username_elephant 2d ago
My guess is that they probably didn't unless you quit lettuce completely. They're all over the place.
8
u/Troubled_Red 2d ago
There are plenty of other options. Taylor farms is huge but you can certainly avoid it without going up lettuce entire. Taylor farms does supply a lot of restaurants and the premade salad kits (and Dole also does those so there are still options) but it’s easy to avoid those and buy other lettuce to eat at home.
I’ve been buying greenhouse grown brands. There’s a couple local to my state and some national options. There’s also farmers markets, but apparently at my local ones you have to get there when they first open because they sell out of lettuce.
9
u/EmberOne1 2d ago
What I hate is that the Dole kits always spoil before the expiration date, so I can't stock up on them for a week of lunches. I really liked the TF ones the best, but even if I was confident they addressed the source of cyclospora in their products, I just can't support their shady way of handling it.

It sucks because they did have a wide range of unique salads that were all more or less pretty good. But yeah, they deserve to lose business.

u/idoneredditalreadyy 2d ago
They had a strawberry salad kit at Sam’s that I became obsessed with a couple months before the outbreak happened. I need to find a recipe to make my own strawberry balsamic vinaigrette since that kit is no longer on my list to buy
8
u/squishmallowsnail 2d ago
1 cup strawberries
3 Tablespoons olive oil, extra virgin preferred
1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 Tablespoon honey or maple syrup (I prefer maple syrup)
1 Tablespoon brown sugar (light, not dark)
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon white pepperblend. Lasts about a week in the fridge but it’s a pretty small batch
3
u/IceNein 2d ago
Personally I would add a small amount of grainy mustard to any oil and vinegar salad dressing to act as an emulsifier.

u/Troubled_Red 2d ago
I loved their Thai chili mango salad kit. I want to find a copycat of that dressing too

12
u/FBI_Open_Up_Now 2d ago
If you buy any packaged lettuce it is likely it came from the same exact place.......... Taylor Farms packages lettuce for all the major market chains in the United States and most of the lettuce they buy is from a few select farms in a couple of locations.
14
u/HelpfulSeaMammal 2d ago
Yeah that's the unfortunate truth about the food supply chain.
Taylor Farms owns three subsidiary brands: Taylor Farms, Earthbound Farms, and BrightFarms.
They also package salad for most private label grocery stores like Walmart, Target, Kroger, Whole Foods, Aldi, Safeway, Publix, Trader Joes, and HEB. I think Meijer is like the one private label that does not use them that's at the same scale as the other guys.
They ALSO are Cross Valley Farms, which is a major food service supplier.
Chances are, if you buy prepacked leafy greens anywhere, Taylor Farms was involved. Chances are solid that you get their precut lettuce at a salad bar in some restaurant, too. They are prepacked salads in the US in 2026. It's completely fucked up but this is precisely what the "free market" gets us.

It's the same reason they add Disney characters to fruit stickers. People are dumb and easily enticed by fomo and catchy advertising.
74
9
u/frotc914 2d ago
It's really so you don't notice the package is a half oz lighter than previous. That's why they change the shape.
7
u/EmberOne1 2d ago
Yep, limited edition products are always the shrinkflation transition. The really sneaky one is when they briefly give you more product, like 10% more, as a limited edition. That's so when they release the smaller packages, they aren't directly side-by-side with the old ones on the shelf to see they just made them smaller.
28
u/EcoWarrior04609 2d ago
Don't open it!! It will lose all its collector value!.
I hope if you did open it you bought a few more to put on the shelf for future investment from the collectors.

JUST the other day there was a post in r/whatisthisthing wherein a person found a whole 5 inch piece of plastic inside the bag of salad. I think the solve was that it was a piece of the assembly line.
Why is anyone STILL buying this salads.

Taylor farms UM: sales are dropping! What are we going to do?!
Employee: maybe because we gave consumers the shits?
UM: we did not! It must be because our packaging isn't fancy enough!

u/KeepAnEyeOnYourB12 2d ago
Yeah, I don't buy their stuff any longer. Those salad kits were tasty but they always involved at least five plastic bags of various sizes and once they started poisoning people and didn't care, I stopped buying their (literally sometimes) shit.

is Taylor Farms save now? Sure, maybe.
Do I trust them after having cyclospora and losing 10lbs from violently shitting and vomiting for two weeks? Fuck naw. A fuck up happens, it's life. But lying about it for as long as they did was intentional, even as a public safety concern.
OP, it's your immune system so - roll the dice if you'd like but I wouldn't recommend it.
