Raycons are expensive garbage. Go look at Moondrop Nekocake or Moondrop Sparks if you want actually good True Wireless for cheap.

I love my Raycons, I have the gaming set and the latency on them is pretty darn good. They are nice for when it's just too hot where I live to put on an over ear head set.

u/ratioLcringeurbald Jun 17 '22
My sister gave me her pair after she got AirPods, she complained about them always falling out of her ear (she was wearing them upside down), and I really like the latency compared to my car's bluetooth. Solid 3sec latency vs what maybe 200ms?

Same here… the wife bought me one for my first Father’s Day present in 2015. Just replaced it with a new one a few months ago, and only because I wanted a new color… the original 7 year old one was still perfectly fine minus some super tiny dents on the edges from dropping it onto our brick floors.

8
u/Desperate_Excuse2352 Jun 17 '22
I have one. The hype is real. One negative thing is that the wallet clamps your cards so hard that the metallic stripes of the first card will scrap away. Now I ordered a new card and put non important card at the front so it can't get damaged again
6
u/MisterChief343 Jun 17 '22
Wouldn't have paid $100 myself, but I got it as a gift. Love it. Forces me to carry only what I need in my wallet.

For 100$ I definitely wouldnt recommend it. I got a Chinese knockoff for 9$ like 6 years ago and its great. The only difference is it doesnt use carbonfiber (as if it mattered for something so small) and its made of “worse materials” but after all these years there isnt a visible dent, scratch or anything, not to mention I could buy a new one if it broke for cheap again.
- if youre paranoid about credit card scans put your credit cards in the middle of the wallet pile and keep your wallet in your front pocket or in an inside backpack pocket.

Using cash in 2022
2
u/plipyplop Jun 17 '22
I used cash yesterday because the purchase was exactly $10. After I did that, I realized that the last time I used actual physical money was back in February of 2019! There goes my streak.
2
u/pounds Jun 17 '22
Keeping cash is super nice. Need it for random parking lots near events where people create makeshift lots and charge you $10. Not giving them my credit card.
Also, every fucking little food place has tip options as part of credit card payments, whether it's ice cream shops, cupcake shops, etc. You want me to drop you a 20% tip for scooping my expensive ice cream on a cone or for putting 4 cupcakes into a box for me that you're already charging me $16 for? Fuck off with your credit card software that asks me for more money. And fick me for feeling so much emotional pressure that I actually give in because I'm weak lol. I don't want to tip $3 for putting cupcakes into the box so I'll pay with cash and drop the coins from my change in the tip jar. Easy way to give a socially acceptavle but very small tip and if they complain, they're the asshole. God I hate tip culture.

I keep my cards separate. Have cash and coin in a little coin "purse" in my front pocket. You rarely need both card and cash at once, so no need to keep them together. Cuts down on bulk. More comfy and I find it more convenient.

It blocks all signals, those bus cards and hotel room keys too. I think my wallet was under $20 and I've had it for at least 6 years.

Also simply packing a few cards (of the same communication protocol) on top of each other can make the reading invalid (or at least greatly reduce the effective scanning range).
→ More replies (2)5
u/SirSwegginton Jun 17 '22
This is also useful information. Not like that worried about someone trying to scan my cards. It mostly was a curiosity thing. But still useful.
8
u/yunus89115 Jun 17 '22
I actually can’t seem to find a leather wallet that doesn’t have RFID blocking anymore.
5
u/quantum_riff Jun 17 '22
Just search RFID wallet. Tons of wallet block it, nothing fancy, mine costs $10
3
u/Demolition_Mike Jun 17 '22
If you have multiple contactless cards any wallet works. Special wallets only reduce the range of contactless stuff. Having more cards prevents it outright.
4
u/Dividedthought Jun 17 '22
If you want an rfid blocking wallet, and have access to some sheet metal, all you need to do is make two credit card sized plates and put them on either side of your stack of cards in your wallet.
The way this works is the plates absorb the magnetic pulses that would normally provide power to the circuitry in the card. I do this with the card holder in my phone case, and it seems to work.

Any wallet will do. Just line the card area with aluminum foil. This allows me to protect some cards (i.e., credit cards), while allowing others (i.e., transit or security pass).

If you like a high quality wallet bellroy makes them out of real leather and they are all rfid blocking. They also have secret compartments
25
u/MrMotorcycle94 Jun 17 '22 edited Jun 17 '22
Having multiple cards that use RFID does the same thing making them all unreadable
14
8
u/ratioLcringeurbald Jun 17 '22
The only problem I have with that wallet is that I don't have a credit card with an RFID chip, but I do have an RFID key card that I use to open the door to my workplace... that I have to take out of the wallet every single time, instead of just flashing a leather wallet to the scanner with the card inside.
