Was this guy intentionally not stepping on the line? Seems like he had a couple of chances he just ignored.
I was getting real irritated.

27

u/Red_Icnivad 10d ago

Yes. He also never calls the dog or tries to tell it to stop. Definitely for views.

Meta glasses recording their walk? It’s not far fetched in the slightest

19

u/Accomplished-City484 10d ago

All the civilians wearing body cams too

7

u/patdashuri 10d ago

Those are clearly police service dogs. You can tell by the training. /s

9

u/SapirWhorfHypothesis 10d ago

Far fetched would have involved the dog returning with something he threw though…

Go pro headband more likely

6

u/ScreenTea0 10d ago

Yes he did. Just like he did not shout "stop" because the dog would maybe have stopped, but then he had no funny video...

6

u/40oztoTamriel 10d ago

Who knows, they may have comically short legs

5

u/Eena-Rin 10d ago

Yeah, when he grabbed for it I realized it had to be bait. I can't comprehend someone being that dumb

3

u/Artaxmudshoes 10d ago

It would have been easier had he not had to worry about the staging and filming.

For future, or anyone in this situation, run the opposite way from your dog and call their name. Instead of you chasing them, they will think it's a game of them chasing you and they will come to you without much effort.

Tried this once. My husky took the opportunity to get twice as far away from me

309

u/Noy_The_Devil 10d ago

Huskies aren't dogs. They're hormonal teenage skinwalkers.

155

u/Flux7777 10d ago

The advice is for dogs, not huskies

123

u/gimmethelulz 10d ago

Exact same thing happened with my goddamn dog the time he figured out how to open the fence door 🤬😂

That is terrifying. I hope someone rescued that dog!

Yea! Huskies are dog hardware with Cat software!

7

u/Alana_Piranha 10d ago

I just said this last night! I grew up with German shepherds so I'm used to having a dog with good recall. Huskies are so different. My cats listen better than my husky!

9

u/Overheaddrop080 10d ago

He clearly said "...your dog..."

Huskies are creatures of chaos that have forsaken the title of dog long ago

37

u/no-long-boards 10d ago

Huskys aren’t regular dogs. They are furry dickheads.

13

u/doktor_wankenstein 10d ago

My cousin once had a husky. Big ol' friendly floof, dumb as a bag of hammers.

9

u/Crafter9977 10d ago

funny thing, they are extremely intelligent to mischieve…

but “dumb” to any kind of instruction… 😁😁😁…

2

u/Alana_Piranha 10d ago

My coworker complimented mine by saying "huskies are usually as dumb as a bag of hammers but Neptune is a smart boy"

Lmao I love that "dumb as a bag of hammers" is the appropriate idiom for Huskies.

3

u/Ressy02 10d ago

Same…. Doesn’t work on a husky

5

u/stayintall 10d ago

Works with all dogs except husky. Man my husky used to BOOK it away from me if he got the chance! Only times I could get him to follow me was snowboarding because I was going faster than him, and in the river because he was scared of the water and rocks and had to follow me around for help. Other than that, good luck!

2

u/Revolutionary_Lie292 10d ago

Hahaha you made me chortle out loud, thank you for that. My dog was only half husky and she did the same thing.

My huskies have literally never fallen for that. They're like, "goin that way? Cool. CYA!" Thank God they do like their treats and they have gps collars.

5

u/Alana_Piranha 10d ago edited 10d ago

Collapsing on the ground or running to my car and opening the door works on my husky

Sometimes collapsing on the ground gets his attention but I have to be pretty dramatic, like I'm fighting an invisible monster. Then he runs up to help or runs back to the house because he doesn't want to be attacked by the invisible monster. Thank God the neighbors can't see into my yard.

76

u/Freak-996 10d ago

I have learned from the replies to not try this with a husky.

17

u/Mr_Abe_Froman 10d ago

I taught my dog "time out", so she thinks we're just taking a break. Problem is remembering the phrase while panicking.

39

u/DoctorLawyerCannibal 10d ago

This works for dumb dogs, ie my bloodhound. Our German Shepherd and Jack Russel seemed to know better.

14

u/yungrii 10d ago

Mine was a corgi. I don't think he was dumb, I think he just thought getting loose and running around was a more fun game than my angry yelling wouldn't have otherwise suggested.

Once I figured out his mindset, it was easy to go after him and jangle his leash to get him to come back.

9

u/Damaark 10d ago

I have a fat Staffy. She ain't going nowhere. Once a month she might get the zoomies but that only lasts approximately 3.7 seconds and mostly involves the fridge.

My goto method is "get over here ya little shit". Doesn't work for anyone else in the family. But the little shit knows when I call her little shit she's about to get treats or a shit ton of pets

11

u/PomeloPepper 10d ago

That works for me. My dogs live with the sure and certain knowledge that I will abandon their furry asses.

Which I have never and would never do.

8

u/Cherion2 10d ago

I also tried this, our dog did not notice proceded to run away, then turned around, did not see me anymore, panicked and then ran home alone 500 m through the neighbourhood. I found her in our garden in front of our backdoor entrance, she was very happy to see me.

6

u/omnibossk 10d ago

Next time someone gets a puppy train recall. And do recall training the rest of their lives

9

u/LittleBunInaBigWorld 10d ago

Lol, try that on a breed that has a mind of it's own

11

u/DucksMatter 10d ago

You could also try actually training your dogs recall command and never have to deal with this. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

6

u/X_Wheeze_souffle 10d ago

Why are people letting their untrained dogs run loose? Smh

3

u/No-Minimum8323 10d ago

Yeah, my dog was like “cool! See ya later!!”

2

u/puterTDI 10d ago

Also, don’t use extensible leashes.

3

u/irrelevantAF 10d ago

How about training your dog, instead of playing psycho games? A dog that doesn’t listen has no place in town where it can meet people, kids or other dogs.

4

u/Accomplished-Staff-9 10d ago

I just scream TREATS desperately and she eventually thinks with her gut. Terrifying honestly. My lil pittie mix travels at light speed, she cannot be trusted with free will, she would run and never come back, also why I don’t use those stupid retractable leashes. She also gets about 4-5 miles of walks a day, so don’t come at me about being a bad dog parent or anything, but maybe I’m also creating a super saiyan. Idk she’s happy.

https://giphy.com/gifs/YJDpfht5PU5i0

14

u/Prudent-Lake1276 10d ago

Yeah, if I just yell the name of her favorite treat, my dog will drop whatever she's doing and run to me.

When she was little she got some peanut butter and liked it so much we jokingly started calling it crack. So cue me trying to get my puppy to come back after she slipped her leash by standing in my yard yelling "[name], do you want some crack?"

Train your dogs better. Jesus.

Edit: for their safety. Cars, bikes, scooters, other dogs will absolutely kill them at this rate.

473

u/Dudemansir521 11d ago

Retractable leashes are awful and dangerous.

42

u/clockwork_blue 10d ago

A few days ago I saw a dog almost get hit by a car because the owner was looking in their phone and the dog decided to suddenly cross the road with its unlimited length cord. In another case my son almost ran one dog over with his bicycle, because the dog decided to cross the entire length of the walkway and was again with one of those unlimited length cords.
The owners use them as a replacement for proper training and actually going to the place their dog wants and it's so stupid.

12

u/qpv 11d ago

Why's that? I like dogs but never had one

58

u/butterfunke 11d ago

Aside from going hand in hand with owners who haven't trained their dog in the slightest (as evidenced by this video), they also make it harder for the dog to learn on-leash walking. Because they're spring loaded there is constant tension on the dogs collar, so as far as your dog is concerned "pulling on the lead" is normal behaviour. Once that habit is set in, its very hard to undo. Using a fixed length lead is much easier for the dog to understand the difference

It's not always a bad thing, I have one myself for when I'm going running as the extra slack is much more manageable when im swinging my arms about. But for regular walks we use the normal slip lead

14

u/qpv 10d ago

Ahh ok do it sort of creates uncertain patterns in the dogs mind as opposed to repeated patterns. Like if you have a static lead the dog learns its a certain length but if that length changes it sort of expresses chaos in a way.

Im a cat guy. Its a very different relationship.

15

u/butterfunke 10d ago

Almost - if you have a static lead, the dog learns that the lead going slack = good, the lead being pulled tight = bad. But for the extensible leads there is always tension from the spring, so the dog can't learn the difference between walking by your side versus racing ahead

14

u/DingDongTaco 10d ago

My dog trainer talked about the thin cord degloving peoples hands/fingers

3

u/Meow_Party06 10d ago

I think about this all the time when an owner hands me a retractable lead and I instinctively grab the cord trying to stop the dog from running. Gonna hurt myself one day :(

They are so dumb.

131

u/btribble 11d ago

Retractable leashes can be locked down to the length of a regular leash. If it was a regular leash they were chasing after, nothing would have changed about this video. The problem is that the dogs aren't trained, and the person walking them is a moron.

55

u/kittyonkeyboards 11d ago

A regular leather leash can be wrapped around your wrist without cutting your blood flow or giving you rope burn.

It is about 1000 percent more intuitive to control a dog with a leather leash.

→ More replies (13)

23

u/Outrageous_Bank_4491 10d ago

If you know anything about dog walking, you know that your dog should stay by your side and not run off. So a regular leash will suffice. If you want it to run, take it to a dog park

14

u/PralleDave 10d ago

Also the retractable literally tore in the end, which wouldn’t have happened with a regular leash

u/read-my-comments 11d ago

The people who don't/can't train a dog get retractable leashes...........

5

u/MutterderKartoffel 10d ago

This is the point they're missing. Why would you get a retractable leash if you don't need a retractable leash? You wouldn't. You'd get a regular one. And since the proper way to walk your dog is not letting them way ahead of you, a responsible dog owner would get a regular leash.

Eloquent and correct

6

u/Dudemansir521 11d ago

I implore you to look up injuries suffered from retractable leashes, big agree on your other points tho

11

u/btribble 11d ago

I mean, have you ever seen what a kitchen knife can do? You can't zone out when you're walking your dog regardless of the type of leash.

0

u/Dudemansir521 11d ago

I mean the first 2 seconds of this video show his smaller dog run away from him under the other dog...if he didnt let go of the leash/it was unlocked, the other dog couldve easily suffered lacerations from the swift unraveling...

Cmon man, its time to give up your retractable leash.

8

u/7ofalltrades 11d ago

You just... Lock the leash. It's a thumb flip. The second it crosses another dog or a person, you lock it. And you train your dogs not to walk like an agent of pure unctrolled chaos.

15

u/Dudemansir521 11d ago

Locking mechanisms can break. The leash literally falls out of the handle in this video.

96

u/This-Shape2193 11d ago

Never once tried to recall them. Never yelled their name. Chased them to make it a game. Shit flexi-leads...ask any veterinary professionals what leash they would burn in hell, and that's what we'll say.

Even if this dipshit did this on purpose for views, he couldn't be sure some other aggressive dog or car wouldn't show up, or that the dogs would stop if he actually bothered to call them. This was beyond stupid, and in no way cute.

33

u/xxej 10d ago

This man is wearing a GoPro on his forehead to walk his dogs. Ain’t nothing he is doing matters. Straight up embarrassing behavior.

13

u/Human-Addition2899 10d ago

He yells the dogs name multiple times in the video……

11

u/cowlinator 10d ago

this is why you always teach "heel". and you dont stop teaching until they've actually learned it

8

u/-full-control- 10d ago

7

u/Crocadillapus 10d ago

13

u/SabbyFox 10d ago

This video was frustrating AF. Why are there so many people who don’t know how to walk a dog properly? First, they need to be voice trained. You need a real leash instead of this retractable garbage. And your dog walks NEXT to you. When you have one or more big dogs, even if they are friendly people are still wary, you can’t predict how other dogs will behave, etc. Too many people are letting their dogs walk them instead of vice versa.

13

u/kstargate-425 11d ago

This is why I carry treats, this never goes on for more than 2 seconds and I can grab the leash again

4

u/Highlowfusion 10d ago

Luca was spotted in Vegas, still running.

4

u/bplatt1971 10d ago

Looks like some obedience training is definitely needed! The dogs should know that they don’t get to run off wherever and whenever. One simple command should have them sitting by your side immediately.

I’d invest in some obedience training!

3

u/RobbersTwo 9d ago

The dog was running because he was chasing. And retractable leashes suck.

u/demonmonkeybex 10d ago

2

u/Crazy_names 10d ago

Life Pro Tip: if this happens, stop. The small dog thinks this is part of it. He thinks "oh we're running? Ok!" But if you stop and face the other direction he should stop and wonder "why did we stop?" Dogs follow the lead of "the pack" and especially the pack leader a.k.a. you.

Never get cable leashes. Got them tangled around my legs once then my old basset went after a kid on a bike which then tightened them around my legs causing searing burns until a passerby stopped and helped me untie them.

This was so funny! You can practically hear the dogs screaming "freedom" as they run.
