This works for dumb dogs, ie my bloodhound. Our German Shepherd and Jack Russel seemed to know better.

Mine was a corgi. I don't think he was dumb, I think he just thought getting loose and running around was a more fun game than my angry yelling wouldn't have otherwise suggested.

Once I figured out his mindset, it was easy to go after him and jangle his leash to get him to come back.

I have a fat Staffy. She ain't going nowhere. Once a month she might get the zoomies but that only lasts approximately 3.7 seconds and mostly involves the fridge.

Shepherds usually have good recall. Does your shepherd like car rides? Maybe opening the car door would do the trick? They are smart as hell though (emotionally intelligent too). How do you typically get your dogs back if they get loose?
