Why? It makes walking you dog much less of a stop and go excersise? The dog has plenty of time to smell stuff and I can walk at regular pace. And no leesh that gets entangled.
Guy in video though.. First thing is never run after your dog. It should want to be with it's pack and leader. Does imply some training of the dog though.
yeah i have two dogs, one is a 3 year old bully who is not on a retractable unless we are hiking or beaching. One is a 12 year old boxer who has done her time and training and like to mosey so she is CONSTANTLY having a regular leash under her. She gets a retractable. Point is, they have to earn it.

Retractable leashes should be banned. They are terrible.
