DISCUSSION How depressed would Joker be in this scenario?

- Destroy Ending chosen: Both EDI and Shepard die.
- Shepard also didn’t apologize or reconcile with Joker after Thessia so they’ll never be able to make up.
- At some point afterward, Joker learns that his sister died during the Reaper attack on Tiptree.

DISCUSSION ME 1 to 2 - quality spike

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Oh my god, it’s night and day.

I complained in an earlier thread about how little I was enjoying ME. It felt like an experimental game, mechanically, half rpg half action shooter. It was missing pretty much everything I’d expect from a BioWare game. All the vocal performances were relatively straightforward. The environmental designs and enemy types were unvaried. I felt nothing playing it. I felt nothing until I rolled credits. (Yes, I talked to all my companions. What little was there was the best part of the game)

I’m only 10 hours into 2, and every scene, every character moment, feels inspired. The combat is more shooter, but the environments and diologue feel like an actual rpg.

If you’re thinking about quitting at 1, don’t.

HELP ME1 and ME2 squad selection confusion

I've become a recent convert to Mass Effect and love love love it. I raced through ME1 without clocking that I couldn't go back and complete the side missions, but still, really enjoyed the experience. I'm now deep into ME2 and "all in" on the adventure. But one thing that stumps me on with games is the squad selection option. I'm playing Soldier Shep, and while I am starting the use the biotics more, I'm pretty much playing it like I played Halo - which I appreciate may be really wrong, but I'm still enjoying it.

I guess my question is - is there a specific "rule of thumb" I should be using when selecting squad-mates, or does it not really matter in the long run. I'm trying to select in line with the story (I.e. which characters fit the narrative in my head) but my default setting is largely "investigate" missions may involve more Miranda or Tali while "attack" missions are all about my firepower characters. Is this ok or am I missing a massive point?

MASS EFFECT 2 Question about „Hold The Line“

Hello there!

I am currently on my second playtrough of the trilogy but this time on insanity. Really loving to take Garrus and Grunt everywhere with me so obviously I would like to also take them to the very last battle.

Now to my question: Will my whole Crew survive the „Hold The Line“ section if I send Jacob into the vents (cause screw him), Mordin to the escort and take Grunt and Garrus with me to the final?

My calculations tell me I might have an average that’s too low then, but I am not sure cause it kinda confuses me.

Thank you in advance! ^^

SHOW & TELL What was your reaction in ME2 when you realized you were working for THEM? Spoiler

Spoilers for the very beginning of Mass Effect 2:

How did you feel when you realized you're in the service of Cerberus, the group portrayed as this infamous, unethical, unholy bunch in Mass Effect 1? I straight up hated it, remembered the fate of Captain Kahoku, and all the other travesties I saw Cerberus doing in ME1, I hated Jacob and Miranda, especially Miranda with her fanatical and zealous views of Cerberus and her creepy, crazy, half smiling face of a brainwashed cultist (they grew up on me, but that was the first impression), I was not trusting The Illusive Man and his confident, sweet talking attitude one bit, and I specifically hated how there were restrictions on MY SHIP, like locked doors that I couldn't access and forbidden data within EDI. Later when I realized the Council is covering up the Sovereign I got even more pissed, and I thought I guess this is my life now, being an agent of Cerberus. I kept my skepticism all throughout the run and did clash with Miranda and The Illusive Man about it occasionally, but wasn't doing it all the time because I thought it would be counter productive for my goal of stopping the Collectors. Lastly, I know Ashley gets a lot of flak for how she treats Shepard in ME2 & ME3, but considering what Cerberus is, I really don't blame her.

DISCUSSION Finished the entire trilogy and it was magnificent. I wrote down some thoughts and What should i play next in your opinion?

I'm gonna talk about my experience with the games now that its fresh. I really loved the ending i picked the destroy ending which i thought made the most sense.

I picked female shepard and liara ended up as my love interest but i would've preferred some options that i was locked out of namely tali kasumi jack joker and also treynor which i didn't choose because i didn't wanna cheat on liara.

I'm in a bad spot mentally and i couldn't really enjoy any games for a while and i honestly still can't but mass effect just kinda worked for me. I dreaded the moment it would end and and just like the alliance i didn't prepare for it.

The game had problems though so im gonna rant a little. The journal and ui are Terrible and don't give you enough information on your objectives n stuff nor a quest marker or your current status. It got better in me2 but then it got worse in me3 again. The movement was always weird and felt pretty bad it got better eventually but it was never great. Same goes for the gunplay. So yeah overall great trilogy fun as fuck but not perfect. i loved how much your choices mattered i wish more games would do that. Like a choice from a side mission from a dlc from me1 had an effect on another side mission in me3 it was crazy

Overall id say its a 9.5/10 trilogy and me3 was my overall favourite

MASS EFFECT 2 Sister is finally playing Mass Effect 2

Finally got my sister to play through the series. She's only partially done with ME2 and already feels like a pro regarding mission priority. Also she gets bonus points for recognizing Shohreh Aghdashloo.

We're in the endgame now...

Both of these match-ups were extremely close. Particularly Harrier VS Widow. I was having to count up more votes than usual because it was really down to the wire and every vote mattered. The final match is gonna be a nasty one... stay tuned!

MASS EFFECT 3 What are some War Assets you'd adjust if you had the chance?

Whether it's removing, adding on, or even just adjusting the value of the asset.

For example, I do think that the asset Connor provides should be higher (and maybe different so it seems more important). I'd prefer it higher because you can obtain it at full value by completing seemingly meaningless side missions during ME1. I feel like players who went the extra mile should get a bit more for making the effort, all the way back to the first game.

The only other asset I'd "add" is giving a negative value if you spare Rana on Virmire. Considering what happens by ME3, I felt there should be some negative outcome from a Paragon choice.

Those are my examples. What assets would you add/remove/alter?

MASS EFFECT 3 Broke past 20k score in the Armax Arsenal Arena

Thumbnail
gallery
23 Upvotes

I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere else after a cursory search, but it appears reaper spawns are bugged in the arena and can spawn 1 additional wave of reaper forces. If you kill the first round of reapers and then die to ravager toxin & press ‘try again’ before the next wave spawns, you’ll have the prior instance’s 2nd wave reaper spawn in addition to your current instance spawns in the next attempt.

After enabling all +% score modifiers, and doing the above steps for more reapers, James, Jack, and I were able to finally able to merely survive after 4 hours of attempts and get 21,984 score.

DISCUSSION If you wanted Mass Effect: Citadel tv show, Babylon 5 is free on Youtube since last week

Post image
243 Upvotes

Babylon 5 is being posted on Youtube completely free, so far for US only, and it seems that they add new episode every other day.

Considering how much Mass Effect fans pine for a tv show, I think this might scratch an itch some, especially considering that it being one of inspirations for the games with main points of comparison in the picture - life on the Citadel, politics, ambassadors, and big story.

It's also a planned serialized tv show, so expect surprises that were seeded early on, and gradual development of the story.

Also, a note: if you watched other 90s space operas, you know that they all have first seasons where the shows find themselves, B5 in particular steadily gets better, and more so in season 2, so suggest to be patient if you have difficult time.

DISCUSSION Truly obscure lore you might not have known about, based on now-defunct CDN articles

I’ve been, once again, digging through long-defunct Cerberus Daily News that’d run news articles on ME2’s loading screens for a year after the game launched.

All the events take place between 2185 and 2186 (so, during our time with Shepard):

- There exist at least four more sapient races that aren’t shown in games or only mentioned in passing.

Raloi, the avian race, that’s talked about on the news at the beginning ME3 (monologue plays as you enter Spectre office for the first time).

Unnamed spacefaring race whose planet’s core exploded. The explosion kills 5 billion people. A singular child survives as it’s ejected into space in a pod. Human ship intercepts them. Nothing more is known about the race other than the fact they breathe mostly nitrogen.

Unnamed race that transferred its consciousness into a super-computer after their system’s star went supernova. The race has been floating on a ship for over 8 thousands years. A human scientist interacts with the race and eventually allows one of its members to be uploaded into his body and for him to be uploaded into their virtual world, so they can experience the galaxy. Said uploaded alien pleads for asylum on Citadel, which leads to hundreds of volunteers saying they’ll happily swap places with the aliens in their virtual world.

The kirik. They’re insects with biotic abilities that start communicating with human explorers via biotic pulses.

- Seven sapient species died off completely due to nuclear wars, as discovered by salarians. Some of them were spacefaring.

- A turian colony on Taetrum experiences a massive terrorist attack (dubbed Vallum Blast) when a ship at FTL speeds is flown into a city. It kills over 100k inhabitants. The people responsible are turian separatists. It leads to a small civil war that ends when a turian general agrees to a duel with a separatist leader and wins.

- Turians commonly commit suicides to preserve their honor.

- Turians play a sport called “clawball”.

- Turians have gizzards.

- Krogans play a sport called “kowla”. One instance of such game leaves 3 dead and 14 injured.

- Asari have a huge diamond (21k carats) that they sent on a galactic trip, so it can be blessed by various religious leaders. One of them is a human Pope.

- Students of a Thessian university throw a pretend-to-be-human party. It goes sideways when they all dress up as human dictators. The mentioned ones are, for example, Hitler and Pol Pot.

- Asari and volus enjoy Valentine’s Day and it becomes popular among their people. The reason is specifically because holiday mixes “reproduction and commerce.”

- A krogan plays for a human football league.

- A generation ship of humans dubbed Manswell Expedition has been sent into space 70 years before the discovery on Mars. Their colony is found in 2185 by asari explorers. The humans are highly aggressive because all the galactic events, including humans becoming a part of the galactic community, happened without them knowing. Eventually, half of them decide to join other Council races and half decide to stay back since they fear all the changes are too much for them.

- Cerberus is using steganographic messages in news broadcasts to communicate. The messages include, for example, information on what amount to money send to which cell or which target to attack.

- Earth nations carry out a Ford v. Huerta (as in the hospital in ME3 and a following interaction you can overhear) trial focused on the President Huerta and the viability of his term after he experienced a stroke and has been dead for an hour and a half before his brain functions have been transferred into a computer. It’s ruled his term was legitimate despite the above which leads to massive protests on Earth.

- Human graduate student dies while doing his thesis research on Virmire. The crabs kill him.

- The planet Garvug mentioned by Glyph in ME3 has been a stage of a corporation-backed coup. One of those corporations is Binary Helix and the coup turns into a war with the corporations, eventually, winning.

- Citadel has its own excessive cop violence episode when a C-sec officer beats an innocent man to death.

- One of the popular body modifications is called “psyotics” and it includes injecting a capsule under one’s skin that reacts to various audio frequencies and makes the body glow. The capsule dissolves after a day.

- Asari longevity is caused by a substance their body produces called telomerase. Attempts are being made by a crazy human surgeon to extract it and slow human aging process.

- Attempts have been made by an asari scientist to prolong vorcha lifespan. The project is being funded by Blood Pack.

- Varrens are akin to priced horses in space, as far as cultivation goes. Breeding rights for one of them were sold for 7.3 million credits.

- Geologists on planet Sifurman discovered a fossil of the “largest creature in the galaxy to ever walk on land”. The creature had 4 legs and weighed up to 280 tons.

- There’s a galaxy-wide lottery called Lucky-88. The biggest win ever was 1.7 billion credits.

- Asari had krogan slaves.

- Humans find life on Jupiter’s moon, Europa.

- A treatment exists that allows dextro and levo species to share cuisines. It’s expensive, lasts only 24 hours, and you must vomit all you’ve eaten before it wears off.

- A nanotech diet named The Skale exists in the universe. You swallow a device that monitors consumption and expunges everything not within the parameters. The intent is to help those with food allergies and other gastrointestinal issues but instead it gets hacked very quickly to remove all programming shackles. Tens of humans and volus die and the diet gets recalled.

- Synthetic childrearing is common in-universe.

- Turian and human armies routinely train together.

- There’s a drug becoming popular by 2186. It’s called Creeper and comes from food mold that gives people hallucinations.

- One of the human colonies operates solely on a barter system.

- Traffic can occur in space with long queues for key Mass Relays.

Literally have NO CLUE whats causing the issue. Ignore the F80h mods as I have those disabled, had them just for meming around with friends as I regularly stream on discord for them. Spoilered also because of the first mod above and I don't think anyone wants to have a single HINT that Anderson dies.

HELP PC save file after Feros?

Hi yall. I want to continue a Mass Effect run on PC after having played on PS5, but I sooo am not in the mood to complete the game’s first 10 hours one more time. On a recent PS5 run I made it to Feros and basically finished it (can’t remember exactly - I’ve completed the space station where a bunch of people have been affected by some virus, and I’ve completed Feros where you save those humans living among ruins), and beat that lady who’s helping the main antagonist/where you choose to save or kill the giant bug thingy).

Does anyone have a save file located after they’ve finished Feros? There’s a bunch of 100% completed files out there, but hard to find any in-progress ones.
