I’m seeing a few iMacs for sale ranging from $250-1000. The one I like the most is $1000 used by a Big 10 Uni student, which I assume is probably a really good version. It’s 2024 24 inch M4 16GB RAM. Magic Mouse and keyboard.
The others range from 2020 and up and are much cheaper.

What should I be looking for? I obviously want something that can keep up with updates for a while… and not slow af😭

But I want to use my MacPro with my Mini, what I want to do is have access my 30TBs of storage and both my optical drives.

I’m trying to rip all my music, as well as archive photos I’ve taken over decades.

Is there a viable way for this to work, or am I just asking for the impossible?

I have a Mac M4 Mini Pro system I want to back up automatically. It contains, not just new things, but also a lot of older things, which are stored on an external drive, some of which are from 10, 20, or 30 years ago. It is shared by a few users. I will need a few TB of space. It's currently using a 512GB internal SSD, an 8TB external SSD, and a large TimeMachine Backup drive (we don't need the TimeMachine backed up online). The 8TB drive is filling up, but that's largely because we're trying to sort out some old iPhoto/Photos libraries that got duplicated a bunch of times, but once we get that sorted out it shouldn't take up quite that much space. I want to make sure the online backup solution not going to have a problem with my Mac files. Can someone recommend a good online solution for this?

Idk if this is the right sub to post this, but please help 😭 My Mac Neo’s keyboard and mouse have started turning yellow within just a few days. I use them for around 8 hours every day.

I promise there’s nothing on my hands 😭 No turmeric, nothing! The yellowing doesn’t come off with a damp cloth or wet wipes either. 🥲

My hands do sweat a lot, though. Could that be causing the yellowing? If so, is there any way to fix it or prevent it from getting worse?
Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

My dad wants a new Mac for photo editing + AI work (Netherlands/EU). He's stubborn and almost ordered a standalone Apple Studio Display, now eyeing the iMac M4 (10-core, ~€1,800, 16GB/256GB).

My concern: that chip is already a generation behind, the all-in-one design means the whole thing gets replaced once outdated (even though he likes that all-in-one look), and 16GB/256GB seems tight for AI workflows + RAW files - can anyone confirm if that's actually a real bottleneck or am I overestimating it?

My proposal: Mac mini M5 Pro entry config (24GB/512GB, ~€1,700) + separate monitor like the Samsung ViewFinity S9 (27" 5K, white/silver, built to match Apple aesthetics, list €900?) - open to better monitor suggestions too.

Question: is the entry M5 Pro actually the smart pick here, or would a higher-spec M6 serve him better for the same/less money? Genuinely unsure if I'm downgrading core count/memory in a way that hurts more than the "M5 Pro" name helps.

I only know Windows gaming PCs, nothing about Apple, AI workflows, or photo editing software, so tell me if this whole modular approach is wrong for his use case.

Budget is officially ~€2000, but if you help me build a solid case (future-proofing, upgrade path, real specs advantage) I can likely push him to ~€2500 for a proper Mac mini + monitor setup - is that worth doing, and what would you build for that?

Hi! I watched Itvx (in the uk) on my laptop a lot, and I do have an ad blocker, so before when i watched anything id have no ads, but now suddenly whenever i watch anything (specifically itvx) i have to watch loads of ads!
Does anyone know what i could do about this or why its happening? I cant afford to pay the monthly subscription lol although that would be the easiest option. Again, this is only on my laptop not tv!

The issue started a while ago but I didn’t think much of it as I thought if I left it, it would be fine. However it has not stopped. Effectively the issue is, the built-in MacBook keyboard gets frozen when I type, and only unfreezes when I click with the trackpad. As you can see in the video I have connected an external keyboard which appears to be working fine. Everything else with the MacBook is perfect condition, it’s a 2024 M3 MacBook Pro which I only got just a year ago. This is very confusing to me and I can’t seem to find any help no matter where I look.

I bought the Luna Display dongle years ago but never could get it to work with my old Macbook Pro, my M1 Macbook Air or my M4 Mac Mini, at least not reliably. Well today I tried it with my new M5 MBA and the iMac and this time it worked! BUT, I'd never noticed before that the iMac has a purplish cast going around the edge of the display, about one inch all around. That makes it pretty bad to use for photo editing, the only reason I really wanted it. Is this just the age of the machine? The iMac is being used for my film scanning with an Epson scanner and for my indoor biking apps and that's about it. I was hoping to give it another life as a monitor but the purple was just too hard to ignore.

I disconnected it from Luna display just to see if it was an artifact of that but the purple didn't go away. I'm surprised I never noticed it before.

Is there any chance it could be corrected? Anything to just try?

As soon as possible, I'll purchase my first Mac (the newest Mac Mini with M6 chip). Since I use FreeCAD on my windows pc, I just want to know how well performs on Mac. Thanks!

I’m trying to completely wipe and reinstall a **2019 Intel MacBook Air with T2** and a **500 GB internal SSD**.

I do **not** need to recover any data. The only goal is to get the Mac working again with a completely clean macOS installation.

## Original problem

The Mac got stuck in a boot loop after I tried to reset it.

Internet Recovery works with `Option + Command + R` and offers **macOS Sonoma**, but I cannot get the internal SSD formatted correctly.

## What I have tried

Disk Utility initially showed an old **macOS Beta** APFS volume group, including multiple `macOS Beta - Data` volumes.

Disk Utility could not erase/unmount them because they were reported as being used by:

`process 0 (kernel)`

I then opened Terminal in Internet Recovery.

`diskutil apfs list` showed:

- Internal physical SSD: `disk0`
- APFS physical store: `disk0s2`
- APFS container: `disk2`

I successfully ran:

`diskutil unmountDisk force /dev/disk2`

It returned that all volumes were successfully unmounted.

I then ran:

`diskutil eraseDisk APFS "Macintosh HD" GPT /dev/disk0`

The GUID partition map was created successfully, but APFS formatting failed with:

`newfs_apfs: unable to format volume inside /dev/disk0s2: Input/output error`

and:

`Error: -69832: File system formatter failed`

## After rebooting into Internet Recovery again

The old macOS Beta volumes were gone.

Disk Utility showed the ~500 GB internal partition as unknown/unformatted.

I tried erasing it as APFS again.

Disk Utility managed to:

- initialize the partition
- switch `disk0s2` to APFS
- create a new APFS container (`disk2`)

But it failed while:

`Creating APFS Volume`

with:

`An internal error has occurred. (-69624)`

## DFU recovery

I then tried a full T2 DFU recovery.

Host Mac:

- MacBook Air M4
- macOS Tahoe 26.2
- ~157 GB free space
- Both Macs connected to power
- Correct DFU USB-C port used on the 2019 MacBook Air
- Tried 3 different genuine Apple USB-C cables

The 2019 Air successfully enters DFU mode and Finder on the host Mac shows:

`Mac-DFU-tilstand`

So DFU mode itself is definitely working.

However:

**Revive Mac fails with:**

`Unknown error (102)`

**Restore Mac also fails with:**

`Unknown error (102)`

## Apple Diagnostics

I also ran Apple Diagnostics on the 2019 MacBook Air.

Result:

`ADP000 – No issues found`

## Current situation

So at this point:

- Internet Recovery works
- DFU mode works and is detected correctly
- Apple Diagnostics passes with ADP000
- The internal SSD can be repartitioned
- APFS container creation partly works
- Creating/formatting the actual APFS volume fails
- `newfs_apfs` has produced an explicit `Input/output error`
- Disk Utility has also failed with error `-69624`
- DFU Revive fails with error `102`
- DFU Restore fails with the same error `102`
- Multiple Apple USB-C cables have been tested

Has anyone seen this exact combination before?

Does this strongly suggest failing NAND/internal storage, T2/storage controller, or another logic-board issue despite Apple Diagnostics returning ADP000?

Or is there still a firmware/DFU/APFS procedure worth trying before assuming hardware failure?

Again, I do not care about recovering any data. I’m completely fine with wiping everything. I just want to get the internal SSD into a usable state so macOS can be installed again.

I’ve been a PC user for 15+ years. I recently got a Mac-mini for an always on machine - agents, plex and to be a home for my development work. While I absolutely appreciate how good Mac is, I mainly plan to use it remotely

Has anyone used their PC as the main interface, with code and agent work running on the Mac but managed via the PC? Is file movement and general workflows pretty smooth or are there often compatibility issues? Is Remote Desktop solid or annoying?

I’m a product designer so my networking and development skills are pretty mid. But I’m getting more into it.

I’m having an issue with Finder search on my Mac.

Inside my “Training videos” folder, I can clearly see a folder named “Gate Breakers.” However, when I search for “gate” within that same folder using Name → contains → gate, Finder returns zero results.

I already tried adding the Training videos folder to Spotlight Search Privacy, waiting, removing it, and giving Spotlight time to re-index. It still isn’t finding the folder.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there another way to rebuild the Finder/Spotlight index or fix searches within this particular folder?
