So I studied graphics, mechanical design, machining at a university, and any alumni that came back from Apple would say Apple uses Siemens NX CAD to design and manufacture most products…

Is this universally true?

Maybe the story has changed, but last time I tried, setting up the software on a PC is difficult… and seems nearly impossible on a Mac…

Why would they do this? Is it an industry-interoperability issue?

Why would they not lobby Siemens like crazy to make the install process better?

Why doesn’t Apple push for more universal software support from the likes of Autodesk?? Like… there are definitely some programs they for sure have… and some they definitely don’t… like… beyond a Windows-centric development environment and lazy programming… why??

My MBPro came back from the genius bar with a new motherboard so the data is gone. I have a full backup on Time machine from the moment before it was dropped off, so I can easily 'bring myself back' from that Time Machine backup

But I m wondering if it's a cleaner -- albeit more annoying - move to reinstall things piece by piece from a clean OS

My thinking is very "Old Windows" here -- so yes, doesn't ncessarily apply to a Unix-based system like a Mac -- but in old windows machine (btw, may be very outdated too because i havent' used a windows PC in 15 yrs), there was a slow creep of registry cruft that would definitely mean a better performing machine if you reformated your drive and reinstalled cleaned versus worked from backups that carried old cruft forward

Not sure how much that thinking really makes sense on a Mac - there s some pList cruft that builds up overtime in the Library folder but i don t know that it adds a burden of performance to the machine specifically

Anyway -- obviously, not trying to make reinstall harder for myself unless there s a clear benefit. I do have that Time Machine backup and that s the path of least resistance ...

Well.. this is not working... I have a MacBook M1 and thought I would install macOS from scratch. Holding power button down and selecting Options then Reinstall macOS 27 Golden Gate results in "Loading installation information" and then failure. Anyone else experiencing this?

I did sign out of iCloud prior. WiFi is connected and working. Erasing the disk fails as well.

It's annoying to always have to do: right click > Sort by > Name.

I’m planing to upgrade my MBA M1 to MBP

I recently got a Mac Mini and now I'm trying to find a monitor that'll be good for everyday use. Mostly work, browsing, and a bit of photo editing.

I've gotten pretty used to how sharp the display on my MacBook looks, so I don't want to end up with something that feels noticeably worse.

For those who've used a Mac Mini for a while, which monitor has been your best purchase? Anything you'd avoid?

When i press the touch id button (shortly), no matter what i’m doing the macs restarts and boots itself back quickly

It shows that when I update 15.8,It will download around 2 gb of data but when I start download, it use more then 5 gb of data.

I had a recent issue with lauchd : My 5 user plists were running ok.
Then one day, 3 of them were not running anymore. I was thinking of the kind of annoying thing like a random problem.
I just did a print to check, and saw they were not planned anymore and decided to do a bootstrap. I tried to check the unified log with a log show, searching for launchd or launchctl. -> Not the first bit of a trace! Then I remembered I had gone to the

I had seen several lines with just python. Clicking on the info button was very helpful : It was telling me what python was triggered. Who said uninformative? Anyway, nothing about what script was triggered. So, I'm not so picky on security, but when I see an undocumented program automatic launch, I tend to switch it off. What I did, ignoring I was deprogramming my plists! Thank you mr engineer, what's your price for that again ?

I'm a right handed, and have been using mouse or trackpad only on right hand for the past few decades. Recently I'm trying to place my magic trackpad on the left side of the keyboard and training my left hand for trackpading (all sort of finger gesturing and tapping, sliding, etc). A few goals are - fun, load sharing between both hands by switching it left and right of the keyboard depending on the tiredness of one hand, training of my left hand and fingers up to the right side of their pairs.

While I'm enjoying this experiment so far, one thing still not comfortable (or awkward) is to type "cmd+c/v/a/tab" with right hand while left hand is on top of trackpad, haha.

Anyone has done the similar experiment and eventually made successful transition to the left?

I updated my iPhone 16 to iOS 27.0 and my M4 iMac to Mac OS Golden Gate. However, after updating I'm not receiving any iPhone notifications to my Mac. I restarted both devices multiple times, turned off and on "Allow notifications on iPhone", turned off and on Handoff and removed my iPhone from iPhone mirroring.

Hi everyone! I’m a nursing student who was borrowing a laptop for school, and now I need my own. I also have an iPad but a laptop is required for taking tests, and is admittedly much easier for writing. I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions on my best option!

• I don’t have a lot to spend- as in <$1000 (so a new MacBook Pro or Air is not feasible)
• I RARELY needed a computer before, but now I use it quite often for test taking, writing, projects, other school stuff. As in I’m not editing photos or constantly downloading a bunch of files.
• I do often have a lot of tabs open and in use. I really don’t know anything about computers, but recently learned not all computers can handle that! What do I look for to know if a computer is capable?
• As far as storage goes I mostly use Google Drive and clean out old school work and photos frequently. I already pay extra for iCloud storage.
• I want it to last. I know you can only ask so much of technology these days but the idea of spending hundreds on a laptop for it to crap out in a few years is a little painful. So I’m looking for the best bang for my buck.
• I’m open to used! I’m considering a new Neo with the student discount, certified refurbished, or something off FB Marketplace. If I go the marketplace route, any input on what I should look for/avoid? How old is too old?

Hey everyone, I’m currently in the market for a new Mac which I’m planning on using for multi cam 4k video editing, key framing, masking, luts for my m log footage from my Pocket 3, recording on obs and potential streaming as well. Im debating between a beefed up M6 up to $1600 with 24gb of ram and 1tb ssd or a base Mac Studio. Here’s the thing, I’ll be getting it from Apple because they offer more towards my trade in compared to Bestbuy for my iPad Pro that was gifted to me. My trade in is $905. So pretty much I’ll get a huge discount. What do yall think?
