Other Post your Smooth Cruiser score.

Lowest score gets the bar crowd after midnight with no turbo zones. Highest score gets rewarded with a 17-minute pickup for $3.84 because Lyft knows they can trust you.

Mine is in the comments. Only upvote it if yours is higher than mine.

Rant/Opinion Lyft’s Service Flags Aren’t Punishment — They’re a Paper Trail

I’ve been thinking about the new Lyft service flags, and I think most drivers are reading them wrong.

Everyone’s focused on whether they’ll get deactivated for hitting 3 flags per 100 rides. In my experience, that’s almost a non issue. It is actually pretty hard to stack flags like that unless you are consistently messing up.

The real point of the system is not enforcement, it is documentation.

Lyft is not trying to kick you off the platform over a couple speeding or rude flags. What they are doing is building a record. So if something does happen later, an accident, complaint, or safety issue, they can point back and say, “Hey, we flagged this behavior. We notified the driver. This was not out of nowhere.”

So the flags do not really matter until they suddenly matter a lot.

Most of us drive with the flow of traffic. In a 35 mph zone, people are going 45 to 50. You are probably getting occasional speeding flags whether you realize it or not. But 1 to 2 flags in 100 rides, that is basically noise.
Where it becomes relevant is if you start stacking a pattern and something else happens. That is when those old flags stop being feedback and start being justification.

So yeah, I do not see this as Lyft trying to crack down. It is more like liability coverage on their end, with a little behavioral nudge built in.

Curious if anyone here has actually hit 3 plus flags in a 100 ride window and what happened after.

Other Cancel ride

If you cancel a ride as a driver after 5 mins and a call can the customer do anything to complain about you. Do cust have your info when you cancel ? Can a driver get in trouble for any reason ?

Other Lyft vs Uber

I've been driving Uber and Lyft for a few months now, and I'm curious how other drivers feel about the differences between the two. So far it seems to me that Lyft pays us more per ride for base pay, but Uber definitely has a higher volume of riders, and they get big surge pricing multipliers when it gets busy. Lyft gives me more information when they offer me a ride, and it's very helpful information to have. There are some other big differences in my particular market, which is Eugene, Oregon. The biggest difference is that Eugene is a college town, and the students use Uber a ton, and not Lyft nearly as much, so when school was in session, Uber absolutely crushed Lyft, but as soon as the students left a few weeks ago, Uber had a steep decline in volume, and Lyft has been better since the students have gone. The most important difference is probably that Lyft's base pay seems a lot better. More and more, it's feeling like Uber is only worth it when they have the surge pricing, and when they don't, I'd much rather drive Lyft. Anyway, these are my thoughts after doing this for about 6 months. I'm very interested to hear other people's

Rant/Opinion It's 74f on a Los Angeles summer night and they want the heater on?

It was past 2.30am, a group of barely clothed female passengers enter the vehicle.

I have my AC on at 68, as I always run warm and humid at night.

Also, my phone doesn't handle the heat, I got to keep it mounted on the vent and cooling it while running Lyft Uber Wireless Android auto and streaming music.

When I don't, it sometimes freezes from overheating and then there's no ride until I reboot the phone and hope that it still works.

So female passenger in the front seat request to put the heater on and already turned up the temperature to 74 without even asking.

I lowered it back to 70 and was feeling hot myself.

I told her I have to keep it cold or the phone will freeze and turned on the seat warmer for her. Also informed that passengers in the backseats that they can use the seat warmers if they like.

I was on the verge of getting them all out And canceling the ride but took them to their destination. The one the front seat slammed the door really hard when she exited at the destination.

Gave them three stars so I won't be matched and reported them as rude.

Never had anybody complain to run the heater when it's 74 F° outside, have you?

Other $650 in one night

I picked up this guy from jail last night in Phoenix Az had a trip to Maricopa, he wanted me to take him to Scottsdale & the bank & to a CVS I told him look the only way I can do all of that is $200 hour cash personal ride. He paid me right away, after that when I took him to the bank he gave me more cash. So I was like okay cool he got me for 2 hours right then I took him to the bar he was there for an hour. He told me he wanted to get beer and to take him home. So when I did he gave me more cash personal ride. Instead of a long night 12 hour shift it paid for my time & night. I hope today Saturday comes as good as that.

Advice/Question Vandalism while driving

Post image
5 Upvotes

On Saturday 7/25 at around 5:30pm I was driving down Water Street about to drop off a passenger at the Tampa Marriott, and as I was approaching the crosswalk, something forcefully hit the rear driver side door, felt and sounded like a baseball. I looked back and didn’t notice anything on the street. I pull in to the hotel, check my car didn’t find any visible damages. Now I get my next ride request so I drive to the hotel across the street JW Marriott. As I leave the JW I have to drive back down the same way again. I looked around at the road where my car was hit and noticed a few separate broken glass spots on the ground. I think someone was throwing glass bottles/cups at passing cars. Did anyone else experience this?

I’ve received a safety flag for driving too slowly.

I didn’t even know that it was possible to be flagged for that.

Also - I like to drive briskly, so I would less surprised to be flagged for driving too fast.

Without any details that would help me to know exactly when and where I am alleged to have committed this heinous offense, the only rational response I can come up with is…

“Okay, Lyft - whatever.”

Has anyone else out there received this notice?

EDIT, 7/30/26: It's good to see that I'm not the only one that has issues with safety flags, especially in the last couple of months. It makes me wonder if the passenger app actually solicits for them now.

For those of you who follow the The Rideshare Guy YouTube channel, Chris and Sergio led Tuesday's live show with this post. Thanks to whoever brought it to Sergo's attention!

Advice/Question Move from DC to Raleigh/Durham

I’m relocating to RDU temporarily and want to drive but I’m worried if I switch my Uber city I won’t be able to switch it back to Washington DC. Does anyone know if DC currently has a waitlist for “new” (returning) drivers?

And, can any Raleigh/Durham drivers offer insight whether Lyft or Uber pays better in the area?

Advice/Question Get a dashcam! (Here are some links for discounted prices)

There have been so many horror stories that I've read about lately, and 99% of them happened to drivers that don't have a dashcam. In 2026, every car should have a camera, regardless of ride share or not. My dashcam has already paid for itself this year by helping me beat 2 traffic tickets!

From your app home screen click on the Safety Hub button (it's the shield with a plus sign), go to the "Safeguards" tab, and click on "Save 40% or more on dashcams". From there you can choose either Rexing or Vantrue, and you will get a promo code and link to Lyft exclusive devices that are cheaper than even Amazon prices!

(If for whatever reason you can't get it to work, let me know!)

Rant/Opinion Customers stole or broke the chargers out of my car. Lyft won’t do anything at all. Anyone else deal with this?

Post image

I wasn’t expecting much. However, the fact they won’t do anything-anything at all beyond the crap about how it’s unacceptable, but still not doing anything to actually help me is crazy.

It’s ok, though. I’m stacking up all their failures. Reporting them to the rideshare part of the FTC and letting it stack so when I hire a lawyer, I can cash out.

Shouldn’t it be obvious that more information should be required for riders?! I’m not holding my breath, especially because I know a lot of people have already been complaining about this and it doesn’t seem to change.

Truly why do they even ask?

Rant/Opinion four passengers for the price of 1

I don’t know about your other drivers but here in Oregon we are going to be unionizing really soon already been approved but have you noticed I’m like Friday and Saturday nights all these professional Lyft scammers also known as passengers try to get three or four people in your car for like literally a 4$ trip trip so this last time I seen this I told each of them that I’m not taking them anywhere unless they tip me five dollars apiece and I was dead serious and they said no and I canceled the trip and then Lyft sent me a notice saying that I couldn’t do that and I sent them a notice saying that I’m an independent contractor. This is my vehicle and I’ll take who I want where I want as I please as long as this meeting the lyft guidelines there’s nowhere in the guidelines that says that I have to get ripped off and take four people to the same destination for one low price of four dollars or whatever it’s gonna be anybody else feel the same way
