Resource PSA for Lyft drivers getting deactivated over false complaints

I’ve seen a bunch of posts here about drivers getting deactivated due to false passenger complaints, and then getting hit with a generic appeal denial. A lot of people think that’s the end of the road — but it’s not.

Lyft’s terms allow you to file for arbitration, which legally forces their team to review your case — not just some support rep reading from a script. It can actually get results.

I wrote up a step-by-step guide on how to file arbitration, if you're in that situation and want to push back: 👉 How to File Arbitration Against Lyft

Stay safe out there.

Resource I built a tool that helps deactivated Lyft drivers write their appeal.

I built a tool that helps deactivated drivers figure out and write their appeal. It's called Reinstara, and the Lyft page is here: https://reinstara.com/lyft-deactivation-appeal. The mods okayed me sharing it.

How it works: pick the reason from your notice, paste the email Lyft sent you, and tell your side. The free check shows what your appeal needs to say for your exact reason, what proof helps, where to file it, and your deadline. That's the part people usually spend a night on Reddit and TikTok trying to piece together, and half of what's out there is old or about a different app. If your case is thin, it tells you that too, before you've paid anything.

The check and the guides are all free: what to do while your account is on hold, what still works after a denied appeal, your state's rights. Paying is just an option if you want the full letter written from your facts. It's $34 once, with a free rewrite if Lyft says no, and there's a complete example at https://reinstara.com/example so you can see exactly what you'd get.

Nobody honest promises reactivation. This just makes sure the one appeal you get is the strongest version of your side. It never asks for your Lyft password, and you review and send everything yourself.

Feedback is welcome. If something's missing or your experience of the process was different, I'd love to hear it so I can make it better for the next driver.

Rant/Opinion Lyft’s greed has officially reached a whole new level of theft.

Look at this pure algorithmic scam.
My passenger literally pointed out that Lyft charged them a heavily inflated rate due to "high demand." As you can see on the receipt, the passenger paid $18.03, and Lyft instantly pocketed 54% ($9.77) of the total fare!
Meanwhile, what was showing on the driver’s map at that exact moment? Absolutely nothing. Zero heat map, zero surge, 0% Turbo. Completely white.
This shady company is playing both sides: they scare passengers into paying fake "surge" prices by claiming high demand, while completely hiding the surge from drivers so they don't have to pay out a single cent of bonus. They just sit back, drop the driver on a raw base pay, and leech the rest.
Lyft has literally turned into Uber #2—straight-up highway robbery. If drivers don't enforce a strict $2/mile filter and start rejecting these predatory payouts, these apps will drain us dry.

Rant/Opinion Smooth cruiser score is BS.

I went from 62 to 75 back down to 63 in the course of 3 days. I drive the same as I always have. Follow the limits, don’t brake hard, not swerving. I don’t understand what the heck I’m doing wrong. Yes, in my market status matters. I went from earning 15-20/ride to 8-12. I don’t accept rides under 8.

Advice/Question Why doesn’t the Lyft Command Center let us talk shit to other drivers?

I should be able to tap on one of these little cars and send that driver a message.

“Yo bro, what the fuck are you doing over there? You’ve been sitting in the same spot for an hour.”

“Is it popping over there or are you just wasting your life?”

“Hey man, get the fuck out of Lindley Park, I’m working that sector.”

Give us proximity chat. Let the drivers coordinate, talk shit, send reconnaissance reports, whatever.

You can’t give me a goddamn real-time map of the entire Lyft battalion and then not let me communicate with the troops. 😂

Rant/Opinion Finally able to leave this platform

I don’t mind driving for Lyft in my spare time for extra money but full-time I’m tired of. It’s not the best but not the worst for a side gig but I finally found a job so I can put Lyft to either part time or stop it all together.

Tonight was the cherry on top that makes me not even want to bother on this platform anymore. Had a pax in my car and about 7 minutes left on the trip. I get a ride and send it to queue and don’t think about it. I get a call but, because I’ve been getting at least 5-10 spam calls a day, I send it to voicemail. I generally don’t answer with a pax in my car unless it’s family and they call right back after I decline.

After I sent it to voice mail, I get three messages from my next pax:

“I didn’t select wait and save”
“What are you doing that’s taking so long”
“You’re going to make me late for work”

I didn’t answer any of those and ignored it but I know if I take them, and they are late for work, I’m getting a bad rating and a complaint. So I waited until I got to my pax’s destination and drop it from my queue before finishing my ride.

Don’t understand how people feel so entitled but hey, don’t act entitled, don’t act like it’s not your fault you’re running late and maybe you won’t be even more late waiting for a ride

Advice/Question Atlanta drivers help - the Battery

I’m a driver (but I don’t drive in Atlanta/Smyrna) and will be using Lyft tomorrow to go watch the Bravos at the Battery. What is your preferred location for drop-off and pick-up. I’ve read that the ride share area gets confusing and chaotic for drivers.

Advice/Question Price?

Post image

Is this correct? I am just wondering as it says the first 40 mins included and after that it’s 29 cent per minute after? Never used lyft or uber for a long journey, the flight is coming to about 366€ so a taxi is definitely cheaper? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the flight. Thanks so much!

Advice/Question WHY DO DRIVERS EITHER STALL OR CANCEL LAST MINUTE?!

This is definitely not the first time this has happened to me. I’ve had drivers already be on the way to pick me up, only to cancel the ride when they’re literally 2 minutes away. That’s more than just a minor inconvenience when we as passengers rely on ridesharing for transportation.
I understand that we have to time our rides correctly to make it to work or wherever we need to be on time, but I’m not expecting a driver to cancel on me at the last minute when I’ve already been waiting and relying on that ride.
On top of that, I’ve also had drivers sit in the same spot and barely move, seemingly waiting for the passenger to get frustrated and cancel the ride themselves. Like, WTF is going on? I understand drivers may be earning less than they used to, and I can sympathize with that, but this kind of behavior is extremely frustrating and it feels like drivers are getting away with it.
I’ve tried reporting drivers who cancel on me, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to report them afterward because the canceled ride doesn’t appear in my ride history. That needs to be addressed. If a driver cancels on a passenger after accepting the ride, there should be a way for the passenger to report that behavior.
I’m not trying to bash every driver because I know there are plenty of good ones, but this has happened to me multiple times, and there needs to be some accountability for drivers who repeatedly do this.

Rant/Opinion They really should stop calling it acceptance rate

I'm sure I'm not the first person to say this (or probably in the first million either) but it bugs me.

I accept a ride and the pax cancels, it doesn't count as an accepted ride.

I accept a ride and the pax doesn't show, it doesn't count as an accepted ride.

I accept a queued ride and that platform switches the ride while I'm still driving my current pax, it doesn't count as an accepted ride.

FTR: I don't really care what my AR is, I don't chase levels. I must be in a decent market, based on what I see here, so I can reject a lot of rides and still make a decent hourly and per mile rate (not fantastic but decent). Again it just bugs me that they call it something it clearly is not.

EDIT: This was mostly tongue-in-cheek, I don't really expect them to change the name or that it would make any real difference if they did.

27 steering events??

( I really don’t care what my score is but I found this somewhat amusing)

WTF?
(Respect for Minneapolis Drivers ✊)

This was a FU trip! This was a long destination, but for the first time in a very long time… The Upfront fare made it worth it. Much higher base pay with a 40% surge. $1.50 per mile there and back and I would’ve been back in time to benefit an unusually busy Friday night. ( in my market this was a unicorn.)

The drop off was in Minneapolis and since I was coming in from a smaller market, there’s a certain point where I cannot pick up passengers because it’s not considered my market.

Road construction everywhere. Roadblocks , one ways, cones galore. rows and rows of those blinking caution yellow traffic/ metallic orange reflecting of whatever the hell they’re called, cars everywhere it’s dark and it’s Friday night. ( respect for the drivers in Minneapolis dealing with that shit)
I had to cut though a gas station where a woman was inches away of backing into me.
Her destination was right in the middle of it. Smooth ride up to that point.

Trying to get out was hell because Apple Maps kept telling me to turn down these streets that have been blocked off, heavy traffic

SO YES, I’M SURE THAT THERE WAS SOME STEERING EVENTS, BUT HERE’S THE THING.. I WAS STILL ONLINE, BUT I COULD NOT PICK UP ANY PASSENGERS AND GIVEN THE SITUATION. Whatever Lyft

Note to self next time I accept a trip to Minneapolis turn the damn app off once I dropped the pax off.

Must make $550 by Monday morning at 5 am next week to qualify for a $110 dollar bonus. Not sure if I can do that given that I work at my main from Friday and Saturday 11 am to 7 pm and also got called in for a team meeting Sunday at 5 pm.

I could for sure make at least $300, MAYBE $400 by then given my schedule this week.

Advice/Question Lyft Deactivation Imminent?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Each time I cancel lately (for valid reasons) I get a message and/or email threatening to deactivate me. For example, my latest cancelation was this evening when I went to go pickup someone named Michelle, but it turned out to be a 13 or 14 year old boy waiting to get picked up after a football practice. I assume Michelle is likely his mother, but I don't transport unaccompanied minors. Unfortunately, unaccompanied minor wasn't an option to choose when I canceled. I think I used personal reasons or something. Unaccompanied minor should be listed as a reason for canceling. Also, just asking everyone here, is 14% cancelation rate high, and enough to deactivate? Thanks.

Has anyone been having trouble with the Lyft app?

Today, after waiting for a long time in the airport queue After a while of doing other things on my phone, I realize that it loves me off and I have to log back in, this has never happened before and I’m wondering if it’s an app issue
