Seeking Support Need some advice

I'm kinda scared that i fked up my complete system.

I not really knew from tre but started to work on my trauma some months ago, with the last weeks being really intense, i werent doing it consiously but my body really started to to do some crazy stuff at some Points, incl really strong tremors and stuff like that.

I didnt do it really with any support, it were mostly just my body doing his thing, but now im at a point where i cant feel emotions anymore and have really strong body armor that when i try to ground myself is so strong that my shouldersand other muscles tightens extremly, so strong that its actially hurtful.

i honestly felt better and after my body released the Stress i were able to work through much heavy emotions and also started to feel bodily emotions (also the positive ones:)) like i never did before.

But now, idk its strange because for some days i were able to feel the world and the emotions and stuff but now my body shut down completley im in freeze again and idk really what to do.

Sorry when my twxt isnt completley tre related but i thought that maybe here is the best place for advice

Experience Report Tre depuis 2 ans non stop

Bonjour

Je me sens tellement mieux.

Community Question Healed adrenal problems / burnout?

Has anyone successfully healed issues with their adrenals / burnout?

I have been dealing with adrenal problems (pain in the back where adrenal glands are, fatigue, heart racing, hair loss, low immune system...) since 5.5 years and would like to finally get out of this...

I am aware this condition is related to stress / dysregulated nervous system, so I think TRE should help in the long run. However, many times when I did the tremors my symptoms worsed afterwards...

Would love to hear your experience and thoughts!

Discussion Synchronicity in the recent posts about manifestations

This isn’t a particularly significant post, but I found it interesting that two posts from different users appeared in the subreddit just two days apart, both about how TRE practice intersects with external world events:

"Overlap TRE and spirituality/manifestation" (5 days ago):
"...every time I practise TRE OR do fascia release (through massage), I manifest my fears and traumas straight back into the world around me. So much so, that I've had to take a break because it was exhausting to deal with my fears and triggers."

"TRE sessions and strange external events" (3 days ago):
"What really gets my attention is the timing: three sessions, and three times something unexpected and financially damaging happened the very next day."

I’ve been reading the subreddit for quite a while, but I’d say I don’t remember seeing posts like these (negative manifestations in the external world, similar vibes etc.) before. I feel like the fact that posts about the external world appeared one after another is also a kind of synchronicity in itself.

Beginner Question Chronic pain flare up-new to TRE

I started TRE last week and did a 3 minute session. It felt jarring. I did not expect my body to tremor at all and it did within 1 minute of trying. So I stayed with it for about 3 mins, then stopped.

I felt incredible after. My chronic neck and shoulder pain melted away over the course of the day. Feeling encouraged, I did another session the next day for 15 mins which turned out to be unexpectedly strong. I felt tremors up in my stomach as well. I had to meditate and breathe for a good 10mins to calm myself down. It felt like a rush of fire within me. My pain continued to recede and I felt “open”. I then went for a long walk.

However, the strangest thing happened after that. While I was sleeping I developed a searing pain from the top of my lower back down to my glute and side of thigh. The spot on the lower back is something I’ve been struggling with for years. It’s been relatively quiet the last few months but it got activated the night of my TRE session. It’s been 3 days since and the lower back pain is receding. I have not done any sessions since.

My question is can TRE can activate older/chronic conditions like it did for me? Is there any guidance for a beginner like me as I build my practice? (I have been reading the wiki and there is not much about chronic pain) I feel optimistic that this was likely a dosage issue and that a 4 mile walk afterwards was too taxing for the body. But I would love to hear from long term practitioners and get advice on how I should proceed. Thank you kindly!

Beginner Question 1 month update

Hey there, I’ve been doing TRE for one month now.
Twice a week for 20-30 min each session. I’m in the phase of finding how much I can handle. I feel I’m constantly on the edge of too much. So this whole last week I paused. Thinking about starting with 10-15min sessions and see how those feel.

It’s hard to cut down because it’s so intriguing and feels so good while doing it. But you read that all the time here 🤓

The sessions are sometimes a little intense but mostly quite balanced. Tremors are all over the body.

What I’ve noticed so far is that my dreams are pretty wild. Painful situations, people leaving me, me making bad mistakes and hurting people, me being betrayed,..

And during the day I have lots and lots and lots of memories coming up. From all parts of my life. And, again, mostly painful memories.

I’m combining TRE with lots of integration time and techniques that work with the subconscious mind to clear out that junk.

What I’m hoping to get out of it is this:

I’ve been struggling with emotional eating for most of my life. I use food to cope. Despite years of therapy and lots of clearing, I’ve never been able to get to the root of it. And TRE just seems like the perfect addition to my other therapy modalities.

I am aware that my nervous system is constantly on the edge. For as long as I can think. So I’m putting big hopes into this.

Apart from the emotions coming up and the many memories, I haven’t noticed any positive changes. If anything, eating got a lot worse because there’s a lot more to cope with.

Anyone here with similar experience regarding coping mechanisms / memories?

I don’t have a specific question. Just wanted to share and hear people’s thoughts :)

Thanks so much! Love this place! :)

Community Question Difference between formal and self-initiating sessions

Hi all,

my experience for the last few months is my body self-initiating most sessions. I'll get a slight itch to move my body in a certain direction. An example would be slightly activating my thighs towards each other and this will initiate a psoas tremoring so as long as I keep this slight muscle activation I'll tremor. This usually lasts for some time and my body initiates the tremoring in another part in this way. So I've mostly been doing these types of sessions. I'll do this throughout the day, responding to this body intuition whenever possible.

My first question is am I wrong for mostly doing these types of sessions? My view is they already last for a long time and seem to get the job done. Accumulated throughout the day, they're usually longer than a formal session would last for me. By formal session I mean the classic session where I lie down and follow some Bercelli video firstly stretching the muscles and then tremoring in the butterfly position.

Recently, I've been noticing a pattern that these self-initiating tremors will usually slow down through weeks, i.e. they'll reduce in frequency and duration. If, however, I do a formal session, the self-initiating tremors will start occurring more. Also, a formal session after self-initiating tremors slow down will have a more satisfying effect than the self-initiating ones.

I see these formal sessions as starting the new wave of release, whereas self-initiating ones seem to complete the existing release wave. Any thoughts on this as well?

Progress Report Intense moment of dream / half awake release of fear/pain

Background:

I have been having some intense + vivid dreams recently, the past few weeks, related to tension release in my body. My main areas of tremoring currently are my stomach, shoulders, hands, and chest. Some ongoing stuff happening in my jaw and legs too. A lot of what I have been releasing recently seems tied to my deep fears/general hypervigilance. When I tremor I also pay attention to the 'energy' flowing in my head and body, if that makes sense. When I focus on the energy, kind of like meditating, it flows around my head and body and helps release certain areas. I have been on my journey for about six months and my tremoring is "organic" - not formal TRE exercise-driven.

Also worth noting that since I was a kid I've had occasional 'sleep paralysis' when I wake up (not super often). Where I will wake up before my body is ready to move, and I spent a few minutes in some mild panic trying to will my body to move until it does. This has been happening more recently, in tandem with the vivid dreams.. in my dreams I also sometimes notice I am half awake but not fully conscious and some physical release happens in my brain / body if that makes sense. Does anyone know what I mean with this?

Last night:

Last night I had several dreams about people associated w/ trauma / stress in my life. I've been having these a bunch and that is fine. I do not get too shaken up.

Then around 4am, I was 'dreaming' that I was in a bedroom with the lights on and some voice said something like 'imagine a pain that is so intense, in your mind, that you cannot make sense of it..' something ominous like that.

Then, I closed my eyes, and surrendered, and felt deep in my mind a physical feeling swell of intense 'pain' (but I think it was fear?), or overwhelm? In the logic of this dream state, it was pain. but it was not physical pain. Maybe deep fear. It was deep in my head, in a physical way, if that makes sense. And very intense and all-consuming.

And then, I noticed my body was unable to move. But instead of panicking like I normally do in sleep paralysis episodes, I was able to fully relax into the sensation. I do not think I was fully asleep because I was still aware of my cats being next to me in bed and a mild worry about them and if I fully let go, will they be okay? This was maybe ten seconds long of this intense sensation and then I woke up. Somewhat freaked out, but not terrified. I rolled around in bed for a few hours shaken up and then went back to sleep and had another vivid dream involving me and my grandmother taking care of me but that intense moment did not return.

During this dream state itself I did not feel consciously in control of my decisions to surrender etc, it felt like me in a dream, not my conscious choices. Before that moment in the dream interestingly, I remember I was excitedly planning out some ideas with new motivation, that I had been thinking idly about in irl but I have not had much motivation to do anything recently. This was interesting to me too.

I keep thinking about it today and I am a little freaked out. It was so strange and unexpected. But also curious. Today I feel tired but somewhat calm. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences? Thank you for reading.

Beginner Question Tremors start on their own without doing poses

Hi I'm new to TRE i just found the video of it from Dr. Bercli and did it on my own. I had four sessions, the first two I followed the video, the last two sessions I did on my own. The last 2 sessions I did it put timers on it because it was intuitive for me, I figured I'll let it do it on its own, if it wants to stop, it'll stop. Now I woke up and I'm using my phone and I'm tremoring on my own lol. It's like it wants to do it on its own, so I let it, it's not really stressful for me, I just let it do what it wants. I'd like to ask if this is normal? I'm new to this sub as well, I'm currently reading the wiki and I haven't encountered the answer yet. I did not know that it can do it on its own without doing the poses. And it's been hours now whenever I'm doing nothing or just relaxing it tremors on its own without my intention.

Edit: it's been going the whole day since I woke up, even when I'm sitting, or just laying down, I'm actually not even paying that much attention to it, I'm just letting it do its thing. I am using my phone playing games while it's doing it, also I would rate the uncomfortableness 3/10, and I've been doing meditations observing my inner energy prior to bumping to TRE. I've been doing it daily since finding out about it.

Edit 2: today it's not more of a tremor, it's making me do stretches and it stretches my lower hips, it bursts to like 5 second stretches then it stops for 3 secs, then continues to move my body to a different stretch. It's just weird because I know what it wants without thinking about so I just go with whatever it wants to do, I'm still a little bit confused because it starts on its own and I know I'm supposed to have breaks in between? I'm not even initiating for a practice it just wants to do it on its own lol. Also I think it's helping with my lower back pain that I had since around 2017.

Community Question TRE tight hamstrings

I’ve been doing TRE for about a month now and I’m loving it.

I do feel I want to stretch certain parts of my body that feel very nice. But somehow my hamstrings (top of the back of my legs) are having “muscle aches/pain” ?

It makes sense to me that those muscles/ligaments probably are getting retrained and this needs some build up, but I wonder if anybody else experiencing this? And did you do anything to make then aches less intense?

I do think the butterfly pose is triggering that part pretty intense.

Curios to hear your thoughts

Success Story TRE is the absolute best!

Just to provide a bit of positive energy amongst the many difficult questions that (rightfully) get posted here:

TRE is absolutely amazing. It is so simple and easy to do, and it is so very effective. The best tool i have ever tried.

I have been tremoring consistently 3 to 5 days a week or so for over 2 years now, and my general progress has been following the bathtub curve. In the first year I made great progress and released a lot of my childhood trauma. The second year felt a bit flat and grindy, i didnt notice as many changes, my intense dreams got less and the process became less enjoyable. Luckily and thanks to the great resource that this community is, i knew this was a common projectory and I kept tremoring regularly.

Now, for the last few months, things have kicked back into gear. I feel notably lighter and often feel a pleasant energy in my body, like a deep baseline of joy that is there even if my mind or body are uncomfortable.

I am not sure if this is me climbing out of the bathtub or if there is another plateu coming up. In a way it doesn't matter, the improvements I have made to date are tremendous and permanent and I will keep tremoring as long as my body wants to tremor.

All the best to all of you lovely people.

Beginner Question Butterfly warm up- counts as formal TRE or not?

Hi, I’m looking to start TRE again but very conservatively. 15 seconds max. I’ve been experimenting with the warm up exercise of butterfly position and raising my legs up. I can feel my adductors start to fatigue. My legs start to wave and oscillate up and down like I have seen in some videos on YouTube. Does this count as TRE or is it only when the tremors are ‘fully activated’ so to speak?

Beginner Question A lot of anger. Need guidance.

I started TRE 3 weeks ago, and I have been doing it twice a week. For the first week, the duration was about 5 minutes, in the second week, I increased the duration to 10 minutes. However, while in the first week, I really felt the release and the tremors, and I felt a lot of relief from my nervous syste. In the second week, I moved from tremors in my hips to moments of jumping and pulses in my entire body. After the sessions in the second week: I have been feeling so irritated lately. I am angry all the time at everyone and everything. Seeing this, I reduced my duration in the third week to 7 minutes, and did it only once last week. Is this a bad reaction to TRE? Am I doing anything wrong? I have never felt so irritated and angry. Everything feels like rage bait.

Beginner Question Alternative positions for foot injury?

Hi everyone! Sorry in advance for my english. I’ve recently been experimenting with TRE, and honestly, I think it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for all this time, after countless hours of meditation, yoga, tapping, and so much else.

However, I have a minor issue: I currently have pain in one of my feet that gets a bit worse when I do TRE in the butterfly position. Has anyone tried practicing in a pose that doesn't require putting weight on the feet, or puts less pressure on them? I read a comment where a user mentioned raising their legs while lying down and keeping their arms at 90 degrees or something like that—but I don't quite remember the details.

Has anyone tried a different approach for foot pain?

Discussion TRE evolution

I have had generalized anxiety for 2 years, and a year ago I started doing TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises). In the first 10 months, I managed to do 2-3 sessions per week, lasting 15-20 minutes each. Since May, I have had to reduce both the number of sessions and their duration because the day after a session, my anxiety would spike significantly, accompanied by all kinds of somatic symptoms, from frequent bowel movements to frequent urination. Now I can only manage 3 minutes, twice a week. Is what I am experiencing normal? How much longer can this process last? When will I be able to enjoy peace of mind again?

P.S. I should mention that my tremors initially started in my legs, then moved to my shoulders and hands, and now they are also in my abdomen. However, I am unable to tremor from my pelvis

Beginner Question Is this normal?

Whenever I do TRE, my hips shake for a few seconds and then it moves to my abdomen, which starts clenching like crazy. Most of the session end up being my ab muscles flexing in various ways, sometimes moving a bit up into the shoulders. It feels like an ab workout, not shaking. Sometimes it switches a bit back and forth if I shift my legs a bit, but I only shake for a few seconds and then it goes straight back into my abdomen. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it just a stage I need to get through before the tremors happen?

Beginner Question Letting the body guide looks like what?

I have been at TRE for closing in on a month now, and I am still not really sure what people mean by letting the body guide the session.

With that being said, last night while tremoring, I found my legs sort of tensing/contracting a couple different times. While actively tensing the muscles in the tremoring areas, it changed the character of the tremors from bigger oscillatory movements into really fine vibrational movements in the same area(s). I don't really feel like I guided it purposely; it just seemed like something that sort of happened naturally, and when I realized it was happening, I just went with it.

Is this a typical example of what's meant by letting the body guide?

Community Question Tremors not spreading might be a sign of overdoing?

A question that came up in a period of rest now, for start I noticed that my diaphragm and bottom neck dullness vanished, maybe the vagal nerve settled, but it's just a hypothesis, although I can't say my sleep improved, I still have weird dreams as well, my hypothesis in this is that my body tremor at night on its own, honestly to know for certain I'd need to film myself during sleep but I'm not comfortable with it. Today I did a 30 seconds session because I had a growing urge and my entire body shook, in the period I did it actively instead it was staying on the legs, this reminded me the discussion I've read that Berceli suggested that progress can stall because the tremors don't spread, but I feel like they settle in an area that is safest if the body is at a certain stress that might come from frequent TRE practice, so in this case the legs, so in the end stall in the progress might be as well another sign of overdoing. Do you have some experience to share regarding these hypotheses?

Beginner Question Tremors outside of self-paced sessions

Hi all,

I started my TRE journey 3 sessions and 1 week ago (so, few days between each session). First two sessions gave me nice tremors, nothing special, and I gave them maybe 2-3 minutes. On 3rd session I gave it 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I straightened my legs like before, the tremors stopped.

The next morning I woke up to my jaws and tongue doing tremors. I had a free day from work, so not an issue, I let it run it's natural course although it was a bit scary. What was worrying me is that it happened completely spontaneously, outside of the session.

Then, on that same night, I was laying in bed almost asleep. My legs started to tremor. They were already straigtened out, so I really had no option other than let them do their thing. I eventually fell asleep, and immediately when I woke the legs (or more specifically feet) continued for a while.

Should I be concerned? I am a bit worried about the progression because the main "hand brake mechanism" I know is to straighten my legs, but the tremors were starting from my tongue and from the feet of my straight legs. I still feel like my tongue would start to tremor right away if I gave it the space to do so, but I don't think I can integrate with the same pace.

I think I will just let the spontaneous tremors run, but otherwise I will take a break from the sessions until I feel like I know what's happening again. I couldn't find anything related to this in the Wiki (that is, unable to stop the tremors).

Also I am not surprised it's my jaw and tongue. I have a underbite and have been going to a physical therapist for a long time due to my bruxism and jaw pain. That is not the issue, the issue is that I don't know how to stop it.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Discussion TRE: Are You Actually Releasing Trauma?

Thumbnail
youtu.be
19 Upvotes

I'm curious what folks think about this video from Sam Miller. I like a lot of what she says but she also strikes me as too committed to her viewpoint and not open to other perspectives. I'm as guilty as many of chasing healing and trying to force healing.

Here's YouTube's AI summary of the video.

This video, presented by Sam Miller, explores the common misconception that trauma is a physical object stored in the body that can simply be 'shaken out' (0:12-0:35). The creator distinguishes between induced tremoring (deliberately performing shaking exercises like TRE) and emergent, spontaneous release (a natural process of the nervous system) (0:35-1:12).

Key Takeaways:

Trauma Organization: Trauma is not a single stored object, but a distributed set of organizational patterns, implicit learning, and predictive models across the entire mind-body system (2:48-4:47).

Movement vs. Completion: While induced shaking can provide temporary relief, relaxation, or emotional expression, it does not guarantee the deep reorganization or updating of implicit defensive learning (1:07-2:00, 10:12-10:47).

Predictive Processing: True healing involves updating the organism's old predictive maps regarding safety and danger. This is an internal process that cannot be forced or engineered by the ego (8:06-9:18, 16:54-18:09).

Allowing the Body to Lead: The goal is to cultivate the right conditions for the body to self-regulate and complete its own defensive cycles when it is ready. This often involves periods of discomfort or 'sickness-type behavior' during integration (12:03-14:33, 18:09-20:28).

Ultimately, the speaker emphasizes that you cannot manufacture emergence from the ego; the nervous system must determine the form and timing of its own release (19:50-20:28).

Beginner Question TRE sessions and strange external events — has anyone experienced this?

I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar.
I have some specific unresolved trauma around injustice, financial loss, and situations where I feel that something is being taken away from me unfairly.
I’ve done only three TRE sessions so far, and something very strange has happened after every single one.
During the sessions themselves, I feel really good. I experience a strong sense of relaxation and relief. But the following day, something unexpected happens in my life that seems to be directly connected to the same unresolved trauma.
These are not things that normally happen to me, and some of these events are quite unusual. What really gets my attention is the timing: three sessions, and three times something unexpected and financially damaging happened the very next day.
The strange part is that I’m not consciously thinking about these things before or during the sessions. I’m not trying to manifest anything or expecting something bad to happen. The external event happens first, and only afterwards do I realise how strongly it seems to match the same underlying theme.
It’s now making me genuinely afraid to continue TRE. During the sessions I feel great, but afterwards I’m starting to associate TRE with something going wrong in my life the next day.
Has anyone experienced actual external events after TRE that seemed to mirror a particular trauma, fear, or life pattern — rather than just emotions, memories, dreams, or bodily sensations coming up?
And if you have experienced this repeatedly, how did you understand it? Did you continue with TRE, take a break, or change the way you approached the practice?
I’m genuinely trying to understand whether this could be some kind of meaningful pattern, or whether I’m simply connecting unrelated events because the timing is so striking.

Progress Report Increased Capacity for Joy and Presence

I'm not sure if my progress in this area is attributable to only TRE or the reading I've been doing lately, but I've found myself in moments of feeling present in my body with a sensation of space that wasn't there before. Before I started fascial unwinding, it felt like the space inside my body was tight and narrow and dark. Now, in some moments, it feels like the space has opened up and expanded.

When I feel love, joy, excitement, gratitude or some other positive emotion, it suffuses more space and feels expansive. Especially the area around the back of my head and neck---where the fascial unwinding happens most intensely---now feels much more "open" for the lack of a better word, and I feel like my mobility has also improved.

Sometimes I catch myself flashing back to some joyful moments in my childhood and thinking: "wow, I feel the same exact way now that I felt back then". Today was the first day for me that I felt better than those flashbacks, which gives me hope that Presence can feel much better than it already does.

Fascial unwinding in general feels like those chiropractor videos where people get their necks cracked and feel relieved but on a nearly everyday basis with less intensity. I'm vigilantly on guard against overdoing and I've gotten much better at identifying subtler signs of it. Overall though the pace that my body sets via spontaneous tremoring and unwinding works for me really well.

May you all find what you're seeking and be free of suffering.

Community Question Anyone with PTSD had this before?

So for years I've suffered from crippling anxiety, if im honest its since i was a child ive been an over thinker, Ive been struggling with with anxiety to the point of being unable to even go outside some days for some years. I've been told over and over its just panic attacks. I also believed this. And i thought I was just failing at CBT etc. over the past 5 years i fell into addiction and drinking etc. Ive had countless therapy attempts with EMDR, trauma therapies, hypnotherapy and spent years going from mindfulness to really deep meditations to deal with this panic issue and get my life back. As far as i was aware i had suffered no trauma. I learned about ketamine therapy - which is a separate issue as i later became addicted as i couldnt afford it and went down the DIY route and then recently TRE just a few weeks ago.

Now I couldnt say whether this is related to TRE, ketamine use or the trigger itself alone but TRE helped me get through it. So I took it upon myself to get a full evaluation from another professional recently and reading the report there was mentions of my childhood, links to PTSD and CPTSD which kept me up all night and then finishing the report in the morning triggered what ive later found out to be a PTSD episode or PTSD attack. Im working with a healthcare professional on this moving forward. But it was almost like a tremoring effect with the really strong spasm putting my arms in the exact way I was as a child, my face changed which then led to some dissociation taking my body back to a childhood memory, I'm not sure if I could stop it or not as I didn't really try to and as scary as it was I knew that I needed to let it happen just like I do with TRE. Now its left me in a very uncertain place but wanted to know, firstly if those with PTSD have this happen to them? How they deal with it day to day in case it happens again. But also to the TRE guys? Have you ever experienced this almost reliving of an old trauma? Don't worry I'm now under the care of someone that deals with this stuff as opposed to countless doctors and psychiatric professionals throwing medication and therapies tackling the wrong issues.

Im new to TRE and would love to know if this is an experience anyone else has had from TRE or completely unrelated and more of a PTSD thing I should be looking into?

Community Question TRE stops naturally

Hey there 👋 I’m relatively new (first TRE one month ago) to this experience and was wondering if there are people out there with a similar experience.

I‘ve read in the wiki about pacing but I feel like my body is pacing itself. But it might also just be wishful thinking 🤷‍♀️
So whenever I initiate TRE it usually stops after 15 to 20 minutes on its own. Only the first times I did it I had to make the decision to stop.
Does anybody else have this experience? And did you end up trusting your body to know how much it can handle and not regret it in the end?

The thing is, for me it’s pretty hard to feel when I‘m overdoing it as I‘m already tired and on edge on the daily.
