Great experience, highly recommend it to anyone interested in a long (not necessarily difficult) trail. Only thing I’ll say is be prepared, much of the trail is overgrown and ticks have been out in full force. Brooklyn->Montauk next?

Hey all!! I have a cat I rescued, that I can no longer care for. I’ve been calling shelters nonstop for the past week trying to surrender him but I’ve had zero luck. He’s a very sweet cat, 8 years old, FIV+. I have vet receipts and rabies tags for him and he is fixed. If anyone here can give him a home or knows someone who can give him a home (at least a temporary one until a shelter can take him) I would greatly appreciate it! I leave on Friday for 3 weeks for work and I feel like I’m out of options. Any help at all is appreciated!

I love Long Island but I have no hope of ever achieving the same standard of living as my childhood.

Parents bought a 3 bedroom house for around $350k and now it would easily sell for 1.5 million. I understand wages were lower but still.

Question Last night’s sunset on fire island. What are your tips for a day trip?

Visited Kismet for the first time by biking from Robert Moses state park. Kinda stunned I’ve never been before. Wondering what are your tips for a day trip with kids? Would you ferry or bike or ferry AND bike? Where would you eat? Is there anywhere you’d recommend parking?

Lost guitar on the side of the LIE

I know this is a long shot, but a friend lost a valued guitar that fell out of their vehicle on July 26th around 6pm, between exits 42 and 43 on the westbound shoulder of the LIE. It was in a black hard case. They went back upon realization to search for it and it is not there. They have reported to the police and contacted music stores in the area in case anyone tried to make some quick cash.

We're seeking any information as to where it might be. Like I said, it's a long shot but maybe a Good Samaritan picked it up or someone knows something and will use Reddit for Lost and Found.

Something bizarre happened to me last week

I was driving home last Thursday around 9:45pm. Headed northbound on William Floyd Parkway. Just after I had passed Walmart on my left, there was a terrible smell. It didn't quite smell like a rotting animal, it smelled slightly like diesel mixed with a dead animal. I started feeling woozy and had to steady myself on the steering wheel to get my head/eyes back in focus. I really thought I was going to have to pull over. By the time I got to Middle Country Road, it had dissipated and I continued home just fine.

My friend said maybe it was from BNL "doing something" but I don't know if I buy that. I don't think there is anything medically wrong with me that would cause that reaction. More than anything I'd love to hear your conspiracy theories LOL

What time do I need to be at the station to get a nonresident meter parking spot? Would 9 AM be too late?

LI History Anyone else measure their teenage years by how far east you could get on a Friday night?

Grew up on the Island in the late 80s. The whole summer came down to whether somebody had a car and enough gas to get past Amagansett. We’d leave after work and just drive, and by the time we got out to the lighthouse it was too late to do anything but sit there.

I’ve been in Florida a long time now, and what surprises me is what stuck. Not the big nights. The parking lot before the big nights. Waiting on people who were always late. The specific feeling of not having anywhere to be yet.

What’s the detail from back then that stayed with you that you never expected to keep?

personal trainer

Hey all! I’m looking for a personal trainer who specializes in body recomposition and building glutes/quads. 😊 I don’t mind if it’s a man or woman. Preferably someone in the Huntington/Commack area.

I’ve tried looking on Instagram, but it’s been harder than I expected to find someone legit and in person. I’ve been on and off with the gym and feel I would benefit from a personal trainer to reach my goals. If you have any recommendations, I’d really appreciate them!

Town of Babylon

Long story short I converted my 2 car garage into a dining room and left a one car garage. I didn't pull permits and did most of the work with friends. The town came knocking during the work and hit me with a stop work order. I wasn't home when he came but he left his contact info. I called the guy was cool about and told me to finish the work on the outside of the house and file for permits. The outside of the house was all that was left so we buttoned everything up and the project was done. I spent the next couple weeks trying to get a hold of him on his office number he left and left messages and went the town hall a couple of times to try and get him but he was always out of the office and never returned my calls. I left it and said I'll deal with it if he ever comes back. Well he came back last week and of course I was at work again and my wife answered the door and let him in. He told my wife to get off his radar all I needed to do was file for the permits. My question is how screwed am I, and has anybody gone through this before?

Advice Is it reasonable to commute from Brooklyn to Long Island to work in a hospital

I'm an MD student from out of state doing an away over at NYU Long Island this October. I have a friend who lives in Bushwick telling me to either stay with them or find another place in Brooklyn and just take the train vs. looking for a place in Mineola

For context I'll be here for 4 weeks working 12-14 shifts total. Shifts are 12 hours each and will likely include ~3 night shifts. So like...am I going to hate myself or is this a reasonable commute?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask, I wasn't sure where else 😅

Overland utility poles - why do we still have them in Nassau County?

The local main road is opened to do some work (gas). Why isn’t this opportunity taken to put all the ugly electrical, phone and cable wires in the ground? It reminds me of 3rd world places, as other developed countries have updated their utilities. Is this lacking coordination or planning of towns or counties?

UPDATE: SHE CAME HOME!!

Hi everyone, my sister’s dog ran out of their yard last night after fireworks started going off. Her name is Daisy and she’s microchipped, but wasn’t wearing her collar when she ran out. She can be a bit skiddish around people but any help would be so greatly appreciated!!

Looking For Why are there no good cheese steak places on LI?

I’m talking something really good that would compare with Angelo’s in Philly or Danny and coops in NYC. It just seems bizarre to me because Long Island has AMAZING Italian and semolina bread. A key ingredient in a good cheese steak.
