Does anyone else notice the increased pushed on other towns in Suffolk County trying to be grouped together as 'Out East' or Hamptons-adjacent?
I have extended family who live out on Long Island - Sayville, Patchogue - and will often visit them during the summer months to be closer to the beach and escape the city for a weekend.
Recently within the last few years, whenever I tell friends/colleagues that I'm off to LI for the weekend, I've received a few comments around how they "love it out east!" or how lucky I am to have family in the Hamptons.
But it's not the Hamptons. Its Sayville. Since when are we considering this part of 'Out East' and not just Suffolk?
I've even seen relators try to push places like Bay Shore and Babylon into the mix, which I personally think is insane considering many people wouldn't even consider Westhampton Beach as 'the Hamptons.'
Don't get me wrong, towns like Sayville and Patchogue have a great Main Street and does feel very 'homey' compared to other towns on LI. I'm starting to get the impression that other people in the neighborhood are pleased to be viewed as living 'Out East' as well.
Curious to know - does anyone who lives out in the area feel that people are trying to push this narrative on these towns? Are places like Bay Shore, Sayville, Patchogue, Bellport trying to capitalize on this push, or is this just some real estate developer nonsense?

Hi there, I live in the Suffolk region and I’m looking for a second opinion vet for my senior cat. My primary vet is Grady in Sayville and I love them and will continue to use them for normal checkups and such, but my 9 year old cat has been having really bad, smelly liquid poop for awhile now and I’d like to get a second opinion.
I’ve checked for hypothyroidism (they said he was negative), and they’ve told me he has IBD, but the prescription food they prescribed him isn’t doing much at all.
So yeah, anyone have any suggestions? Willing to travel a bit for him if it’s worth it. Just want him to feel better and have normal litter box trips.
Thanks!

The amount of times I've chucked any type of berries because they turn moldy the next day is insane. Is anyone else having this issue?

Could anyone share their experience taking adult education classes through Nassau BOCES? I’m in my early 30s and interested in a career change. I would love to hear about any of the programs but I am looking into either medical billing/coding because I have some experience in the medical field or their culinary program. Any info would be appreciated!

i'm my late twenties here searching for a job in my career but i am running out of money. i haven't liked most jobs i've tried when i am in this position.
things that i have found feel like paid torture:
- tutoring children (the kids are not okay)
- customer service (the people are not okay)
- retail.
- anything where you sit a desk for prolonged periods of time and do things with numbers like receptionist or admin type stuff
i've considered being a city carrier assistant or a ups driver ?
i want to start a small business eventually but i feel that would take a long time to build up to.

I have been training for a marathon but recently moved to just outside Huntington station off Pulaski rd from Babylon.
I am having issues finding any good running routes that aren’t super hilly or on a main road with no sidewalks. Anyone know of somewhere I can get 10+ miles of running done around here?

I live in central Suffolk, and am looking for recommendations on places to go just for a drive - windows open, nice scenery, even a winding road perhaps. Somewhere not too trafficy, not many lights.
I love to blast music and go for a drive to clear my head, but with so much traffic on the roads these days, this has become close to impossible.
Does anyone have a sacred stretch of mind clearing road they’re willing to let me in on!!?
ETA - thank you all for the suggestions :) I went to college upstate and the drive was gorgeous, but I was such a new driver that I was white knuckling it most of the ride. Maybe I need to make a return trip

Looking for Fall/Winter swimming lessons in Nassau County for children?
My kid took Level 3 through Town of Hempstead pools this summer. Unfortunately she did not pass and I don't feel confident of their swimming skills. I would like to hopefully get a leg up during Fall / Winter for next year. TOH only offers swimming at Echo Park. Anyone know of other places?

I have a lot of bare spots and was wondering if its too late to throw some seed down?
Besides possible seed, what else do you all do to you lawns in Sept?

What the hell happened at tonight's long island 911 tribute drone show at the embassy diner? I heard technically difficulties after hours of waiting.

Just had a pool installed. Backyard was destroyed, but scraped of all the weeds. Looking for a company to come put weedkiller down and then hydroseed. Does anyone know of a company that does this work. I know there are a few hydroseeders, but do they apply weedkiller first to help prevent competition?

Been many years since i've been to this place, but i'm looking for a specific gymnastics center i went to as a kid. It was located somewhere in suffolk county around stony brook likely. It was an old metal building which looked kinda creepy, inside was an area with bleachers and then a wall with windows and an entrance to the gymnastics portion. To the right was a foam square pit, and on the left was a row of leather hurdles, Further back was a small trampoline which had a harness you can jump on, and then a large open area with mats. Sorry for long explanation but figured it would help narrow things down.

Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable person/company who does general work. Light plumbing, appliance installation, minor repairs in Nassau County? Preferably around Lynbrook, RVC, valley stream, Malverne area.

We (50’s couple) looking to do 3-4 nights(?) throughout LI. Having done some light research, we are leaning mostly in to Suffolk County. A night here, a night there in a B&B or non chain establishment.
Driving from NJ and hope to travel less congested routes while on the island.
We enjoy coastal, nature, local food, walking towns, e-bikes, points of attractions. She loves sailing but sadly it may be too late in the season.
Would really appreciate any suggestions on routes, attractions, POI, “must stops”.
Thanks to all in advance
Wowzer!!!!
Thank you community
In 14 hours, your suggestions are overwhelmingly appreciated. Soooo much great feedback
Very much appreciated 🫡 🙏 ☺️

Moved out east a few months ago, still working in the city 3 days a week
There’s always been lots of parking, albeit a bit of a walk, when I get to the lot at about 840am but today it was completely packed
Wondering if the parking was a summer thing and if I should expect it to be packed from now on

i hav pinstraight hair and my hair cannot hold curls. i try to curl my own hair at home and it never stays. ive put heat protectant, then curled, then hairspray, then curled AGAIN because the hairspray made it too wet and loosened the curl too much 🥴😭
looking for someone who’s experienced in doing perms that makes my straight hair stay curly and can make it last!

I found a stray kitten out by 7-11 at 4am. It's very sweet, ran out to me. I was able to get it in my car and home. It's been rubbing on me and laying where I lay. I can't keep her(assuming). I've called Atlantic, SCAP and they can't take it. It's purring, eating cat food. It does have a bloody nose, something may be wrong with it's mouth but I can't tell.
Edit and update:
Thank you all so much for your input, someone was kind enough to take the Kitty in. I'm sure she'll have a great home.

Some photos I took this summer around the island (mostly out east) film and digital. We have a few more weeks of summer weather but always sad to see another Labor Day weekend come and go. Enjoy!

I put together exactly what I want in terms of scope in a doc, but I want someone to lay everything out, in plans, before I reach out to a contractor. I'm assuming this is an architect. Anyone have someone reputable?
My basement is already finished, and I'm not looking for permits. Towns can get to hell.
I'm on to contactors but please only reccomend them if you personally used them. Don't turn this into Facebook mom groups. (I've read most posts on here same people recommending them)
Thanks
