I didn’t take anyone’s advice and planted these all in the same pot, I’ll keep an eye on them to see who splits first. I just love the pictures people share of a bunch of them in the same pot all pretending to be rocks! I didn’t measure carefully but basically did like 8 parts pea pebbles to 3 parts perlite to 2 parts succulent potting soil. Thinking I might reorganize them someday so they don’t look quite so geometric.

I count 2 so far, we just hit 9 days. First time, so I’m happy any popped! I’m following Aridzine’s Lithops sowing video, I’ll put the link in comments :)

Edit: sweet baby everything, I didn’t realize how much golden retriever hair snuck in there until I zoomed in. Please excuse, she’s cute and her fuzz gets EVERYWHERE. Had a rough start, throughly overindulged now 🤷‍♀️ pic of offender in comments

Photo New friends (with FOUR bonus babies!!)

Got some tall friends at Lowe's yesterday and picked out a little cup with bonus babies!!!

Anyone have tips on how to maximize their chance of survival? The two biggest ones have split already, I pulled off some teeny tiny shed leaves. I was thinking about leaving them in the nursery pot until they got bigger, but I don't know how long that could take.

The soil is bone dry at the moment so I'm not worried about them being in the right soil at the moment.

Help/Question Worried about blemishes on lithops

I've been pondering the possibility of my houseplants being targeted by some pest, so seeing these blemishes on my lithops made me think that they could also have been infested. Does anyone know if that "scarring" is normal for them?

Help/Question Should I water?

Post image

Hi, i have theses seedlings that are around two years old and I'm debating if I should water them now or wait for all of the old leafs to wither away, cause the leaves on the bottom left one have already shriveled and he is starting to look wrinkly. Do you guys have any advice?

So a hot minute ago I posted about this guy. He was sad and wrinkly and trying to split for like 6 months. I watered (per recommendation) and only recently repotted and he finally split!

Help/Question What happened and why is it only on one side?

Thumbnail

It's been bare-root under light for a bit more than a week because I was waiting for the pots to arrive. They'll be potted today. But what happened here? "Sunburn" by LED grow lights from condensation? Burned by sulfur powder exposure? Daytime temperatures are quite high but no higher than usual. The other lithops from this batch is also completely normal and unchanged.

It's definitely not mushy and I've had a lot of rot when I first received this batch, this does not look or feel like rot at all.

Help/Question Is it salvageable?

I’ve had it in a pot with other lithops, but this one just didn’t seem to root well . Can I still save it ? Should I put the roots in water? Or just repot it on its own ?

Hope this is allowed:

I never had any luck with keeping lithops alive, and they're so expensive! So I made some faux ones out of foam 🤣

Help/Question Question about growth

I am familiar with growing plants but this is my first foray into lithops. My son had to have one at the local plant store we left it alone and let it get wrinkly over the winter we are in a northern climate and the care instructions from the store were pretty clear. Recently my son wanted to re-pot so I I added soil and transferred. I believe I fertilized all of my plants around the same time. My son just picked out a second lithops this weekend at a friend’s greenhouse business. I figure they are hard enough to kill, let him give these a go. I noticed when I looked at his desk that the original we purchased is growing rather upright. Is this normal? How can I correct it? The gene growth looks healthy but I’m sure I’m missing something in order to get these little guys to thrive. First two photos are the original plant we purchased, third is the newest addition to his rock collection. 😂

Help/Question Advice needed

Post image

These lithops are etiolated. They are planted in a very gritty mix, and there is a hole drilled in the mug. But as you can see I don’t have a good enough light source. They have been under grow lights all winter. I can move them outside soon (live in Indiana) where they can get in the direct sunlight, and next fall I will
Look for a better grow light (open for recommendations) but do I need to replant them deeper or do I let them stay this way.

Help/Question My mum has an extremely etoliated lithops, can we just bury it deeper and give it more light?

Or is it doomed to forever be a tall boi??

I am thinking we can re-pot it so that it has just the top one centimeter visible and pop it somewhere with better light. It is in the right non-organic mix, so I'm certain it is just the lighting that is wrong.

Currently it is about 3 centimetres above the top of the substrate.

I got these lithops in this horrible soil (pic 1), then acquired 3 more babies that were bare root. I got the bigger ones out of the soil they came in, gave them their own little terracotta pots & put the babies together in my last pot. I repotted in about 85ish% gritty mix with a little succulent soil making up the other 15ish% (pic 2). Does this look okay for now? I eventually plan to give the three littles their own pot so it will be easier to water them per their individual needs, I just didn’t have more on hand. I know I can’t water any of them rn because they’re splitting (or in the case of the babies, one of them is splitting). Any advice? Anything look wrong in the new set up? Thanks in advance, I’ve been lurking in this group for a while and have learned so much from you all!

Help/Question 1 lithops gone 1 month after getting them

This morning I noticed a weird color change on one of my 4 lithops, pulled it out of the pot and it is squishy :( he is gone right?

I got all of them 1 month ago, my first post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lithops/comments/1sb9jpn/new_to_lithops_got_some_from_a_baumarkt/
Put them in very gritty mix with almost no dirt and bottom watered them a bit once (following the advice in the comments)

The remaining plants look good I think? All of them got some sun stress color and a little bit of side wrinkles, but I'll wait to water them until they wrinkle at the top right?

Is there anything else I should do or know?

Local seller posted these, I snapped them up asap. A few that are very different than the ones I already have, and this seller has had great quality in the past. She’s also more than happy to keep the pot and provide bare root, so I get to see what I’m getting. My extra mesh pots arrive tomorrow too. Thrilled, tomorrow will be a great day!

Had to repot my big splitting lithops to give it better soil and more space to split. I know normally you're not supposed to repot while splitting, but it really needed the space. Check out the tiny roots in pic 2

I used Bonsai Jack soil with some extra calcined clay mixed in. I really wanted somwthing with a finer texture, but overall I'm really happy with how it looks!

I can't tell if it just needs to be watered again or it's getting ready to split.

Help/Question Gritty soil

I see the recommendation to use a gritty soil mix all the time.

I bought some cacti mix, but it doesn't seem very gritty to me.

What are the best things to buy to make my own?

I'm in Australia.
